They spread themselves too thin.

Baka-akaB3794d ago (Edited 3794d ago )

Not really the issue imo . There is just no way anyone could supply such unprecedented demand .

Had they not launched in EU territories , the eu stock would still not be enough to meet the initial US demand ... if we believe statements from the likes of Gamestop

thekhurg3794d ago

They could have dumped 5 million consoles in the US during the month of November and they'd still all be gone.

It's going to be a while before supply surpasses demand on this console.

static52453794d ago

I just looked online for a PS4 and found some in stock.

And not for 600$ but for 399$

indysurfn3794d ago (Edited 3794d ago )

Yeah I know he has a point but like you said even gamestop has a (2 million) backup which is more than all EU would have had shipped and sold to it.

I know they would be able to sell more in the USA if they just supplied USA first. But they supplied more than Microsoft supplied.

On a side note, I went to Target a few hours ago. We knew of bestbuy, walmart restocking of xbox ones. But Target is full also! Not just the website like I listed a few days ago. Only one box one was missing from the xbox one display, and it was already 7pm here. Meanwhile PS4 sold out.

Sony actually produced MORE machines then Sony according to sold out claims earlier in the month when Microsoft said they was sold out.

Because if Both are sold out, and one sold more machines then it also had to produced more. In a side note many countries are reporting being back ordered of PS4's until at least Feb 2014. And they have not launched in there home territory yet. So if they wanted to spread themselves out more they would have launched in Japan.

But did not, instead went for the road kill (hehe). They know people think Microsoft is junk in Japan, and will not be real competition.

mewhy323793d ago

this thing is selling like hotcakes.I was just at a gamestop yesterday and they were sold out. I'm glad that I had my pre-ordered and got it on day one.

mikeslemonade3793d ago

WTF.. how is PS4 still stock at number 67 on Amazon. People don't buy PS4s on Amazon for some reason??

Lol at relics who still do there shopping at brook and mortars.

c316473793d ago

The Ps4 is in stock on amazon for the U.S.

like baka said the demand is just too high. Selling 2 million in less than a month. And even when stock is replenished it it sold out with in seconds online.

Even in stores people are still lining up overnight when word gets out on shipments. I part time at a walmart and we had 39 ps4s come in to be sold this past sunday, that many people had already formed a line 6pm saturday night with many more being turned away.

GribbleGrunger3794d ago (Edited 3794d ago )

It's about World wide penetration not regional penetration. Clearly you worry yourself too much with the idea of the PS4 not selling more in your region of choice, but that's a pointless exercise. Sony pumped more console early on into America and the UK just to make sure MS didn't get a firm foothold, but from here on they'll spread those shipments wider. Having said that, they'll also have the same philosophy for the remainder of this month because they'll want to catch the Christmas buyers in America and the UK. It's just that they also don't want to lose any momentum they've established in other regions. They just won't be putting a million units into America this time though. ... Perhaps 500,000 instead.

indysurfn3794d ago

You said Penetration...
then you said penetration...again......
and then you said in your region of choice.....
and then you said pumped.....
and you said they'll spread those shipments wider
because....they also don't want to lose any momentum

GribbleGrunger3794d ago

Bubble for making me chuckle.

MadMen3794d ago

Are you talking about your woman?

KwietStorm_BLM3794d ago

Regardless of how many countries it launched in, it would be sold out. That is the issue, Drasill.

GraveLord3794d ago

Kinda but not really.

-Huge shipment for launch in the US.
-Small Shipments there-after leading up to Christmas
-Huge shipment for the final 2 shopping weekends before Christmas.

You see they're following a strict schedule. As we know, Sony's launch shipment for the US was bigger than Microsofts. NPD sales results are proof of that.

UK sales results also prove that EU received a bigger shipment for launch as well.

As you can see Sony opted for huge shipments for when there would be the most demand which is launch and right before Christmas. Microsoft decided to sprinkle their stock evenly across each week with steady shipments.

There is no "right" or "wrong". Both are good strategies.

TBONEJF3794d ago

yeah it out BEAT THE XBOX ONE.

jc123793d ago

got mine in late November at target - people just need to be persistent. Stores are getting regular re-stocks every week. Just last week i went grocery shopping at wal mart and saw several ps4's chilling on store shelves.

I should have preordered, but even then no guarantee I would have received any. Up in Canada, my local PlayNTrade told me a few days ago they received less than 10 PS4's at launch and haven't received a single unit since. They keep hoping for more stock but it isn't showing up. No PS4 under the tree for me this Christmas.

The question I have now is if I'll get my hands on one before the end of Jan, when my $10 upgrade code for Assassin's Creed 4 expires.

Baka-akaB3794d ago

Why not still redeemed your code on the web site in the meantime ?

Anon19743794d ago

What? Wait! I can redeem the code on my PS3 or web! I saw that I needed to have the disk inserted into my PS4 to download the digital PS4 copy so I assumed I needed an actual PS4 unit to redeem the code too.

That's awesome. Thanks!

Tru_Blu3793d ago (Edited 3793d ago )

March if I recall correctly. I did the upgrade for BF4 from PS3 to PS4, worst $10 I ever spent but that's another story. Also I had the digital copy so not sure if it's the same for discs.

Anon19743792d ago

I have a copy of COD Ghosts and the upgrade code on that one expires March 31, but for whatever reason, AC4 is 1/31/2014. Just double checked.

jaixvx3793d ago

I live in Canada. My local walmart had 100 ps4s on midnight launch. No pre orders. first come, first serve. stood in line for 3 hours.People showed up at 1230 and got a ps4. I guess i was lucky.

Blackdeath_6633794d ago (Edited 3794d ago )

just got one off amazon no problem 3 weeks after release. quite happy with it at the moment controller is amazing

Outlaw19863794d ago

I can't wait for more games to come out. After the end of January though with Tomb Raider it seems like at least a couple games a month I want to play and I got an Xbox one also so Titanfall at the beginning of March!!! Can't wait.

bligmerk3794d ago

We are all watching videogame console history being made. The PS4 is now launched in 48 countries, this early in the launch window. It is a massive effort to now ship second, third and fourth shipments to those countries before the end of the holiday season. The demand is so huge, there is no way to not have shortages.

PlayStation: The First 25 Years

The path from the PlayStation 1 to the upcoming PlayStation 5 lines up neatly, but only if you’re looking at it numerically. In actuality, for more than 25 years the PlayStation team has had to navigate some of the industry’s most difficult terrain. During that time, a dedicated team of visionaries, engineers, and software developers established a brand from scratch, propelled it to unprecedented heights, struggled to maintain dominance, and eventually returned to what initially made them so successful.

They sure do and the PS4/Pro and Switch are proof of this!

FallenAngel19842221d ago

I still remember how the misinformed media tried to push a doom and gloom narrative for the future of consoles at the beginning of the decade

Tsar4ever012221d ago

Didn't even notice it earlier but PlayStation already has it's own GAAS as part of it's PSN service model. It's "Free-to-Play" games & "Streaming", ala PSNow as part of it's "Adaptive Monetization ", according to Ex-PlayStation Boss Andrew House.

Consoles have successfully existed for the past 46 years and they’ll successor exist for the next 46 years.

“Former PlayStation CEO Andrew House's Stirring Farewell: "PlayStation Has Always Been About Games"

I’m really going to miss this guy. Thank you for your help bringing PlayStation to where it is today.

NewMonday2344d ago (Edited 2344d ago )

a most fitting farewell, big thanks and good luck to Mr.Andrew House.

if MS want to save the XBox brand they have the perfect man available. and get rid of the trolls like Greenberg/Penello/Nelson and the guy who only talks the talk Phil Spencer.

morganfell2344d ago

But he isn't stepping down, he is stepping up. He is being promoted.

morganfell2344d ago

https://www.sie.com/en/corp...

Announced on the same day people started blabbing he was leaving.

"John Kodera promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer, Andrew House to be appointed Chairman"

Ashlen2344d ago

"Current President and Global CEO Andrew House will transition from operational management of SIE, but will remain with SIE as Chairman through the year to ensure a smooth transition."

He is ending his time at SIE at the end of the year. He hasn't announced any future plans. It's unfortunate I liked him a lot as well, but the reality is he is leaving Sony either to retire or take up a new career somewhere else.

morganfell2344d ago

@Ashlen,

Thanks for that clarification. He will certainly be missed. He stayed through a not so pleasant time when others might have bailed. Great guy with a lot of insight.

Zeke682344d ago

Actually he is taking over Sony Pictures at 2019.
