Australia censors South Park: The Stick of Truth

Even with the introduction of an R18+ adults only rating in Australia, video games are still being edited before making it Down Under. The latest? South Park: The Stick of Truth, which was labelled R18+ last week. Turns out, Aussies will be getting a censored version of the cartoon RPG when it arrives in March.

There's nothing about this game that really would be taken away by being on the last gen consoles.
It is not a technical showpiece, and will look and play just fine on 360 and PS3.
Why, in this case, does there need to be a next-gen version?

I find that ridiculous, though I know it is true. Just because a new console comes out, that doesn't mean you give up on all the great experiences you had over the last 6+ years.
I mostly game on PC, and I return to games that are more than a decade and a half old. I still have fun with them and I would never want to get rid of them just because new games came out.

I didn't say there was no benefit, I said there was minimal benefit and it wouldn't be worth the developer's time to, at this point, think about next-gen.
I think, more than likely, they would be lucky to make any real profit by bringing the game to next-gen platforms at this point and it's probably not worth the time. It would be more of a risk than anything.

This game succeeds in looking like the cartoon more than how technical showpieces aim to look like real life.

After 3 episodes plugging the next gen systems only to reveal their game at the end. It will see a next gen release.

I've had a PS4 since the fifteenth of November, and i totally get where you are coming from mate. I myself just re-purchased FF XIII and XIII-2 the other day to play.

I want Lightning Returns, Lords of Shadow 2, ECT next year and I'm going to play them.

That being said, I WOULD rather play them on my PS4. For me it's just a little inconvenient to play on my ps3 over my PS4. That's it though, just a little inconvenient.

I like the social features in the PS4, also. So of course I would prefer playing all of these upcoming games on one console.

This is what we call a first world problem. Which awesome machine can I play my plethora of games on? Life is so hard!! T-T

We fought for an R18+ rating for a number of years. We finally got it and still, games are being refused or edited to fit into the guidelines.

What exactly was the point of the introduction of an R18+ rating if the old folks who are looking at these games aren't going to use it properly?

And Australia calls itself a "liberal" democracy? I find society these days is censoring more and more things which don't agree with the views of the majority.

The fact is that no matter how subjectively "horrific" people may view something, an adult has a right to observe, produce and sell it so long as no high-penalty laws are broken in its production.

I mean, I support feminism, for example, on a private level, by persuading people rather than shackling them through promoting law, but banning material for being misogynistic is morally incorrect (as is banning material for being misandristic)

This is how the world slides into a police state...hope I'll be dead before it happens in full force.

This is why the piracy rate is so high in Australia, everyone is sick of being treated like children. If we can't get what we want, we resort to other means of getting what we want.

We fought for a r18+ rating so we wouldn't have to deal with this censoring bullshit, and as it turns out, it changed NOTHING!
