One-man indie studio Damp Gnat (a.k.a. Reece Millidge) has proven itself a purveyor of experiences that are short, sweet, and sensationally stunning. Last year’s single-screen iPad mini-golf course in Wonderputt made a strong mark, and it’s followed up in the exquisite Icycle: On Thin Ice – a 2D platformer that bears a similarly impeccable sense of design, yet explores altogether different territory.
Icycle is kind of a racing puzzle game, where you're riding a bicycle through an icy landscape and you have to find out (sometimes through patience, sometimes through trial and error) how to get from the left side to the right side. It was certainly a hard sale for me, I didn't think it would be a very good game when I picked it up.
I was happily incorrect.
"But free-to-play is good for the market, as long it's done respectfully, Chillingo General Manager Ed Rumley told TabTimes Games."
This week’s Cost of a Coffee game is Icycle: On Thin Ice from Damp Gnat, where you are a cyclist who must negotiate a series of dynamic levels… tackle out.
