Remembering Prince of Persia 2008

When most gamers think of Prince of Persia it usually brings back one of two possible memories. First, the original game that was created by Jordan Mechner way back in 1989 which ran on an Apple II and later ported to DOS. Second, the other Prince of Persia game that was developed by Ubisoft in Montreal, which launched in late 2008.

I will always remember this game, its one of my top 5 favorite games of the generation, and one of my favorites of all time,i put it right on the same level as sands o time and the two thrones and the original,to bad we wont ever get a sequel since ubisoft wanted to only milk assassins creed,a sequel needs to be made to finish the story, hell this game actually deserves a sequel, imo i dont think i can get into another PoP reboot until this one is finished

one of the most repetitive games i have playes this gen together with Assassin's Creed.
Gameplay is great and so pleasant in the beginning but it's ALL the same you gotta do over and over: Take the girl to the top of the level so she can do her flower dance or scream....i ended by giving up.

true theres repetition, but i love this game because they did take some risk, and the story/character interaction was great,i mean theres a reason i really want a sequel to this, ubisoft could easily fix the repetetive aspect look at AC1 it was boring to me but i loved 2 because they fixed the everything wrong with the first, pop actually needs a sequel to because it ended on a cliffhanger

I agree I couldn't bring myself to finish this game. it is just too repetitive. gam play mechanics is just too easy. you simply cannot die in this game. fighting monsters is too easy as well since you don't die.

levian3806d ago

I have to agree. For the first 30 minutes or so, it was okay. But then I realized, it wasn't a Price of Persia game. It was an exploration game, with a bit of combat. You couldn't die. When we talk about games being dumbed down, this game really hit home there. In most modern games it's tough to die, but in this game, you literally CANNOT die.

It felt like there was almost no point in playing, no point in trying to get decent at the combat. If you die, oh well you have an infinite number of retries.

I like exploration in games, but I don't want the game to be nothing but exploration, which is essentially what this was. If you want that experience, play Flower or something.

@levian

You have an infinite amount of retries in every game, the only difference is that in this one you don't have to wait through a loading screen. All other games you get a title screen saying you died, and then it reloads the chapter or section or right where you left off. This game just removes the stupidity that is a meaningless death system. If you died and the game locked down and you couldn't play anymore that would actually make more sense.

i didn't say this game was bad, i liked the cell shaded graphics, the very responsive gameplay and controls. The fact that it wasn't possible to die didn't bother me that much but it's repetitivity that killed it for me. Felt like i was playing Sonic BONUS STAGE with all blue orbs i had to collect everytime.. it's just not what i'm expectind from a full price retail game.
Should have been a bonus mode for Prince of Persia like Sonic 3 bonus stage.

You guy's missed the best ending of any game I've played this generation.

Deadpoolio3806d ago

It's not even the repetitive gameplay that makes it awful, it's the complete lack of any kind of difficulty whatsoever WTF are you thinking when you decide to make a game hold your hand so much that you cannot even die

Yeah, I loved this game. Really annoyed how the epilogue DLC didn't finish the story, I would have preferred they left the original ending as it was rather than the non-finish they extended it to.

But hey, Mirror's Edge is getting a sequel, so don't uncross those fingers just yet!

Eamon3807d ago

This game is badly in need of a sequel.

nosferatuzodd3807d ago

shit i totally forgot about this game we need a new one asap

The_Truth_24_73807d ago

I enjoyed it but it got really repetitive halfway through. Never got the Epilogue but yeah, didn't like the way it ended and never got a sequel.

Hey Ubi, here's a gun, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.
