VLC Media Player Maybe Coming To Xbox One According To Team's Programmer

Ah man... I'd love for this to be on all next-gen consoles. VLC is the only media player I use.

ABizzel13816d ago

@Snookies12

Agreed, love VLC. This could be another direction MS takes the XBO to help give it a strong differentiator from the PS4 by making it more and more like a standard desktop / tablet with a huge variety of apps and programs that are normally exclusive to PC / tablets.

It wouldn't be the strongest selling point if you already have those devices, but it will provide tons of usefulness for the XBO.

Morpheuzpr3816d ago

XBMC is were it's at. I stopped using VLC a long time ago.

Excalibur3816d ago

Good news as that is one of the players I use, just give us the ability to pin these as well.

This is why I'm really excited about the Xbox One. Now there could be a flood of really good apps that add features and capabilities that Microsoft didn't have to develop. For example there is no System Video player on the Xbox One, but if VLC comes to it, it should be able to not only play .wmv and .avi files, but should be able to play .mkv files and access shares on my computer. That is what I've been really waiting to have in my living room.

I like what I see with the PS4, but it will never have the depth of apps that will be available as the Xbox One if MS truly is planning for Apps for Windows being able to run on the One. Time will tell if this has an impact on sales but it holds an unprecedented set of capabilities for the livingroom.

Whoa! I hope there is tissue near by when you're done. You might have to wipe your screen off to see this reply. Both system are made to support apps to future proof the system. To say ps4 will never have the depth of apps is second guessing the competition. . What if Sony decides to have exclusive contracts with other companies or apps devs, better yet look at the twitch situation where MS will add it after their competitors. Then in those cases your comment would sound like extreme fanboy-ism gets you off?

Nocando3816d ago

That didnt take long, shocker that a sony defender comes screaming in.

Drewidian3816d ago (Edited 3816d ago )

Let's look at this objectively ok? I'm not saying that the PS4 won't have apps, but that it (in all likelihood) will not have the depth or breadth of apps that MS will simply because it seems that the Xbox One will run modified Windows 8.x Apps. Sony doesn't have an ecosystem that easily ports apps from say mobile or desktop to the PS4 the way the Xbox One will have access to the Windows unified store. And I'm not a fanboy. I did say that I like that some things about the PS4, its just that its app situation looks like what it is between the Xbox 360 and PS3. The 360 has at least twice as many apps. Does that make a difference for gaming, no, but that might be different this generation.

christocolus3816d ago

Drediwian never said the ps4 wouldnt get many apps too i think what he was trying to say is that with ms owning windows and the multitude of apps on that platform ,its just going to be easy porting them over to the xbx one and thats an advantage for ms and the xbx one...there will be apps unique to the xbx one but there will also be loads of apps ported to the console from pc just because of the ease.

hankmoody3816d ago

Only time will tell but I'm certainly hoping that this is the case. I personally don't see the PS4 growing in the future the way the XB1 seems poised to do. I could be wrong but this is just how it looks to me at this stage.

LAWSON723816d ago (Edited 3816d ago )

It will never have the depth of apps. What? You mean how both last gen systems had absolutely no app support at all yet managed to get the functionality. Also, just to note the PS3s Netflix app is very good and easily better then the 360 app. The PS4 is also far from not being able to have depth apps, whatever the hell that is. The HW the system has is very much capable if the software is improved.

B1uBurneR3816d ago

Your wrong about the ps3 netflix being better than the 360 version. Netflix has the same layout and across both Systems. Netflix wants the same layout across all system. The 360 also includes voice navigation via kinect. .

BigShotSmoov0073816d ago

I would love that cause that's the only media player I use. Windows players don't play all format types like VLC does.

Ratty3816d ago

Or doesn't play it as well. VLC is also much lighter. At least that was the case the last time I used Windows Media Player ;p
