Warframe review (Eurogamer)

With the rising price of next-gen games a hot topic of conversation, the case for free-to-play moving onto consoles should be easier to make. Games like Warframe, however, probably won't help.

It's a four-player co-op third-person shooter, pitting human players in Guyver-esque supersuits known as Warframes against a variety of evil alien cyborg types. If that scenario causes your eyes to glaze over with weary familiarity then rest assured, the game that follows is even more generic and characterless than you think.

put it this way, super mario by todays standards would have received a 1/10, for unispiring graphics, simple mechanics, no story, and so on and so forth.

if you enjoy the game, why do you need to hear some twat talk about anything when in real life, you would ignore the douche bag for always having something negative to say.

I retail games. I always try to find games people like... there are some games that I can say, "huge let down, so I can't say you'll like it."

A 4 out of 10 means very few people will like it.. and I honestly believe more people like Warframe than not. Reviewers are becoming opinionists who aren't helping people to find games they will enjoy, or skip the ones they won't.

Also, a completely free game? No buyers remorse if it's bad? 4/10 seems... strange...

All I know is a lot of my friends on PS4 are playing... and loving this game. I only played a few rounds so far, and it was fun... not really my thing, but fun.

I think it's a decent game, but it's very repetitive, and had it not been free I wouldn't have bothered with it. A 4/10 is a bit harsh, because there is fun in it playing co-op, but it needs better gameplay and variety.

And those with ADD who are usually the ones giving CoD a 9/10 for shiny numbers popping up on screen.

Daft and silly review. This free-to-play MMO has depth and quality in abundance. Granted its tricky to get your head around the warframes and upgrades et al, but after a few hours and joining a clan all seems to go wrll...for me anyway.

Really enjoying playing this game, and it will only get better.

Unfortunately, this is a case of a reviewer that didn't actually play the game for more than five minutes. He might of actually just watched gameplay videos. A large portion of the review, such as the sections that I quoted are simply untrue. Melee combat is VERY effective and the upgrade system is, in fact, quite substantial. Given, I've only played it on PC but unless its completely different on the PS4.... well.... All I can say is that I don't care that the reviewer didn't like the game, that's completely his right to feel however he feels but he should actually put some effort into a real review...you know... like actually playing the game...

There is an option that stops the camera from spinning with your melee attacks. It makes melee so much better. I admit the camera for melee could be better, but I mostly melee for kills because I have fun.

As far as leveling up... The point of this game, like any other RPG coop leveler is to get powerful equipment along with being powerful. Once you get your Warframe to 30 you can make another or upgrade yours to be stronger. Everything can be upgraded and made more powerful. I have put in a good 50 hours and I feel like I have only scratched the surface.

And on their first comment "Your suit and weapons level up with use, though you'd be hard pressed to notice any practical improvement in their functions"... ummm BS - Your weapons do level up with use, but the "level up" is only to add slots to your weapon so you can add mods. The mods themselves can be upgraded with fusion cores or other mods. These clowns have no clue what they are talking about and they should be ashamed!!

Terrible review for this game. Def a case of didn't play long enough to really review the game.

I never had problems with camera and melee after I realized that I should stop blindly attacking with the starter sword. I've got the drake now and it definitely fits my play style, hunting mods is great fun, it's a mighty time investment. But I feel the game had more than enough variety to keep me entertained. DE also updated this game fluent enough, adding new warframes, 11 is coming out and is adding a ton of content. New dmg, valkyr warframe, etc. I'm in a very active clan and the social side is fantastic. I could happily compare it to ME3 multiplayer but better in many ways. Sidenote update 11 is out on pc, not ps4 as of writing this

Try playing on Apollodorus without leveling up any of your weapons with decent mods or warframe & try last at last 15-20 mins.

This game definitely doesn't deserve a 4 at the very least a 6.

I'd give the game an 8.5 at least(26 hrs in)! I've maxed out the character mag and farming for Rhino parts! Shysun on PSN for the PS4 players peace and good hunting to the PC gamers! :)

Well they said the same thing about Ryse. And Ryse is better than Warframe in my opinion since I have both. But Warframe is a decent game too. I got Ryse from a buy 2 games get 1 free deal.

Resogun is completely different as it's a different genre (Shoot em up) altogether. I hate when people who only play shooters decide to review something that isn't a shooter. Don't rate genres you don't play often or, especially, don't care for.

WarFrame is an RPG like old RPGs used to be. It's not until several hours in that you really see what you're playing.

A lot of the later missions are extremely hard, not to mention the raids.

There's a lot more to it than people think, the problem is they don't do well with the initial growth of character in the first 10 or so hours.

The game is based primarily around repeating content, gathering materials and ranking up. You might think it's dull, but for players who like that kind of thing, it could mean 1000s of hours of playability.

I, personally have over 150 hours in the game (not a bad return for the £30 investment I made for the hunter's founders package -and they still continue to improve the game). Sometimes I will go back and play it for a few more hours here and there just to see if it's changed much.

at about this point its clear that the reviewer is dead set on hating the game, so many games show you this, I've lost count of the Amazing games that start with "use left stick to move" or "look up..look down" etc.

That's a good point, a 3-5 min tutorial and he points that out. Every FPS I've played does the "L-stick to move" thing, usually in a training camp lol.

Yeah, the whole review reads like someone who hates the game from the start. To that end, they spend as little time as possible playing, and see ONLY negatives, even if they're actually positives, to the point of making stuff up.

Wow, his complaints are a little strange. He goes for the tried and true "In practice, it all boils down to much the same thing - move from room to room, corridor to corridor, kill everything that moves and loot every locker and chest for credits and ammo." Seriously? How is this any different than any shooter out there right now that gets excellent reviews?

Parts of his review also contradicts itself. First he complains about how the tutorial is insulting because it teaches you the basics, but then complains that they dont hold your hand through everything else dealing with movement. He brings up wall running and how they dont teach you how to wall run. I've got to say, seeing a long white strip on a wall stopping at a platform is a pretty large indicator that I need to attempt that technique.

Warframe is not a perfect game, but it definitely does not deserve a 4 out of 10. I agree the interface can use some updating. One thing I would like is for the game to be more adaptive to the ps4.

It's annoying having to add someone to warframe's friendlist then adding them again to the ps4. Anyone who is on your friendlist should automatically show up on warframe. Also being able to customize your loadout while waiting for a match to start without having to leave the game would be great. Sorry for the wall of text :x

Played this on PC and IMO 4 is a tad low, more like a 6 but definitely not a 8 or 9. It's good for what it is, but nothing refreshing or mind blowing. To be honest there are way better F2P games out there. Maybe over time the game can improve with updates, but for now it's a pass. PlanetSide 2 is much better.

Which would be fine, if it sucked. But the review paints the picture not of a crappy game, but of someone who sucked at even paying attention.

Who the hell complains about tutorials in a world where EVERY game has a tutorial? Then, how do you complain about something being MISSING from the tutorial when it's actually there?

There's plenty of other stuff wrong with the review, too: referring to actual planetary bodies- moons, anyway- as "fictional additions"; saying you can't check out stats on something before you buy it, when you can; failing to mention mods at all. And others, to boot.

It's just a bad review, overall. I don't see anybody saying "It's okay to be this bad because it's free." Rather, I see people saying, "It's not bad, but how much do you expect out of a free game?"

In either case, the review is far worse than the game.
