Why You Should Be Hyped for Jojo or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Turn People Into Bombs

Hardcore Gamer: Japan, I think we can all agree, can be a pretty strange place. I know what your minds jump to with that statement, but it doesn’t even have to be a sex thing. This is a country whose chief cultural exports include a glowing monkey man who beats up space Hannibal Lecter to save slug people, an Italian plumber who jumps on turtle dragons and turns into a cat, and dog fighting for children. Even then, though, that’s only what we see on this side of the water. For various legal and cultural reasons, one of the most influential works in Japanese media has never gotten much exposure in North America. This is a work that transcends plebian weirdness. It is out and out… well, Bizarre.

I have this, and quite frankly, it's just not fun.

I played it a bit at launch, then not at all for weeks until last weekend, when I played through chapter 4 of Story Mode.

Pros

Good visuals that really capture the feel of the comic.
Good music.
Good overall presentation.

Cons

It's just not fun to play.
Most of the characters feel really samey.
Battles just feel like rinse and repeat.
Overall, the damage is low, and health bar is large, so matches seem to drag on for ages.

I'm a big, long-term fighter fan, but this game just doesn't do it for me. I'm not the only one, as it got slated by most players in Japan.

Incidentally, this game is really cheap on Amazon Japan. Like 1,500 Yen.

I don't want to sound rude, but you got to expect this sort of thing from anime fighting games. The issue is that the cost of just licensing the manga / anime eats up a lot of funding (along with possibly getting the original voice actors) and instead of making an awesome fighting game (like Capcom's version), they make a game with a bloated cast so fans can be OOOOO and AHHHH about how all their favorite characters made the cut.

You really have to ask yourself which would you rather have...

A fighting game that rivals say Injustice with say 10 characters that covers 1 story arc or the fighting game you got, with 47 characters + DLC characters and story coverage spanning the full series to date?

Sure, the cast lineup is great, but when everyone just feels the same it's ultimately pointless.

Also, the story mode covering the particular story arc often feels dragged/padded out. Like the Part 4 I just beat ended up with the final fight seeing you start the match with only 50% health just to make it tougher.

As for which I'd rather have, the recent 'HD' remake of the old Capcom arcade game, for sure.

they need to announce the exact release date like when in 2014. I like how Namco has been firing up games I like.

Played JoJo for PS2 all the time. Would buy it again but $20 is steep for it.
