Can GTA 4 Save PS3? How About Take-Two?

Colin Sebastian, an analyst with Lazard Capital Markets, said that although he expects the Xbox 360 to get the lion's share of GTA IV software sales, Sony could capture as much as 40% of the market. "Historically, the franchise is more closely tied to Sony than to Microsoft, so there's brand equity there if you will," he said.

"The GTA franchise was born and raised on PlayStation," a Sony spokesperson told Wired.com in an email. The company predicts that GTA IV's launch this month will move sales of PlayStation 3 hardware: "There is strong brand association with consumers between PlayStation platforms and GTA and even though it is hard to predict the exact bump in PS3 hardware sales caused by GTA IV, it will certainly be a significant driver of hardware as consumers don't forget that heritage."

Personally Im a lot more worried about loosing the real talent behind GTA4 than I am about how many consoles Sony sells. Holding a team together able to make a game with the depth of gta4 is a fragile thing. Unfortunetly EA along with most big corps tend to either break or stifle them all to quickly.

The PS3 is gonna save GTA. How? Having GTAV exclusively, and maxing out the potential. Since sandbox games at this point, should ONLY be done on BLURAY, same w/ Racing games since neither can use multiple discs. GTAV will exceed GTAIV, which will keep R* going strong. If GTA4 was 360 exclusive, ps3 would be fvkd. However the multiplatform nature of the game plays strongly in their favor.

GTA4 won't save the ps3 but it does have a pretty big hand in the eventual success but at the end of the day its a combination of a lot of factors that will bring ps3 victory

I remember at the beginning of the yr when gametrailer did the show and that one guy that said ps3 didn't have any good games this yr and ps3 would never outsell 360 this yr not even for one month haha. The PS3 does not need help from GTA, it is not faultering in any way. We have seen the PS3 hold it's own for the first quarter of this year with the help of Blu Ray and a decent lineup. GTA will drive some PS2 owners out of the woodwork to get a PS3, but GTA isnt the only card that Sony has up it's sleave this year. No doubt that Sony is going to be willing to spend some major advertising cash later this year for the PS3's real meat and potatoes:June 12, September, November.

I thougt the 400-500$ PS3 was outselling the 360 in every country all over the world... including so far this year in the U.S... and only behind by a 5-6 million deficit because the Xbox 360 was rushed onto the market a full year ahead.

So the PS3...which has sold about 13.5 million consoles and maybe more in 1.3 years..... needs to be saved... and its no where near mainstream pricing yet... though it seems everyone I know is waiting for it to become cheaper. I know ALOT of people buying the PS3 when the price drops... everyone on my campus wants a PS3.

MS really need as much as they can get out of GTA as the 360 is quickly losing its appeal.

And they better ensure that whatever DLC content they paid for is substantial (I still wonder why we haven't heard anything about what it is) because they're making a big deal out of it and, after dropping the original Xbox so quickly and their RRoD issues this gen, they can't afford to disappoint people again.

As far as everyone knows T2 has a sure success with this game, they are just waiting to get their pockets stuffed with all that cash. As for PS3 its stupid to say they need help, of course not, they been able to manage very well and it only gets better for them. The real question is just how much hardware can a game this big move consoles for the PS3? We all know that it will move them and in the thousands if not in the millions considering its the first game from the GTA franchise to be released on the new Sony hardware so it should convince a lot of PS2 owners to move on up. it should be the other way around! Can grand theft auto save the xbox 360! After 08 I don't see any way that the 360 can stay afloat. Yes its a good console but its not a great console and hardware sales are starting to fall.

Nobody is really buying the console anymore if you think about it. Everybody who planned on getting a 360 probably already has one and the market is already flooded with them. Most people that are purchasing GTA IV for 360 already have the console on there shelf at home. But the majority of ps3 purchasers will be picking up a console with the game.

I just don't understand how people think that microsoft actually stand a chance against sony in the gaming industry. I mean be rational for just one minute people. Sony revolutionized gaming on a global scale! If it wasn't for the playstaion there would be no xbox or xbox 360. What has microsoft done to contribute to the future of gaming. Don't even say xbox live because online console gaming has been around for a while. They are a lesser version of the playstation and will all ways come second no matter how you look at. PS3 isn't the worldwde last placed seller console for about 6 months now, in fact it outsold 360 worldwide last year and outsold 360 in it's homeland some months in this year.

Not to mention PS3 has a solid 2008 in software department and don't really NEED GTA IV now, Haze and MGS4 are just around the corner, after that we have Resistance, SOCOM, Little Big Planet and more just waiting a release date, while 360 has? Nothing really before forth quarter? Maybe NG2 (good one, but I don't know when it's coming...).

So who needs saving?
