Can GTA 4 Save PS3? How About Take-Two?

Colin Sebastian, an analyst with Lazard Capital Markets, said that although he expects the Xbox 360 to get the lion's share of GTA IV software sales, Sony could capture as much as 40% of the market. "Historically, the franchise is more closely tied to Sony than to Microsoft, so there's brand equity there if you will," he said.

"The GTA franchise was born and raised on PlayStation," a Sony spokesperson told Wired.com in an email. The company predicts that GTA IV's launch this month will move sales of PlayStation 3 hardware: "There is strong brand association with consumers between PlayStation platforms and GTA and even though it is hard to predict the exact bump in PS3 hardware sales caused by GTA IV, it will certainly be a significant driver of hardware as consumers don't forget that heritage."

PS3 needs saving??? i thought that it never needed saving, lol. oh wait its wired, the biggest 360 fanboys on the planet. lmao

chaosatom3335855d ago (Edited 5855d ago )

Exactly.

it doesn't need saving period.

Once capcom and Valve see the light of day, everything will be good again. I just care about developers, not of review sites or the public.

Once developers see the potential of ps3, nothing can stop the game from coming in.

solidt125855d ago

PS3 will do just fine because of they have the best line up of games for this whole year. The only game coming out on another platform that posses a threat is Gears of War 2 but that is just one game against a mountain of PS3 exclusives this year.

gamesR4fun5855d ago (Edited 5855d ago )

Personally Im a lot more worried about loosing the real talent behind GTA4 than I am about how many consoles Sony sells. Holding a team together able to make a game with the depth of gta4 is a fragile thing. Unfortunetly EA along with most big corps tend to either break or stifle them all to quickly.

Condoleezza Rice5855d ago

What is this 'saving' that the Ps3 needs, lol? It lost out to the 360 last month by 5,000 units, not 50,000,not 500,000,but 5,000 units.

To be quite frank,I'm more concerned about Microsoft at this point, they aren't generating as much positive buzz and/interest in 2008 in the same way they were in 07.And this, regardless what GameSpot or 1UP may say,is NOT a good sign for their Xbox business, period.
Whereas in 2007 you had Sites asking "What the Cell is going on?",in 2008 now,you have devs proclaiming that Ps3 exclusivity would have led to a better game...

Anyways,GTA4 will help Take-Two make about a Billion,it'll help move a couple hundred thousand Ps3's,and it'll help Microsoft gain more XBL Gold subscriptions.Who's the ultimate winner here?In a War whereby monthly and yearly hardware sales are key in the battle,it isn't hard to see which company will benefit the most from tomorrows launch.

shadow_hearts5855d ago

GTA4 is better on PS3 . It will move a lot of PS3s

It x360 which needs saving . the GTA4 launch in europe made impact but just for the PS3 version

PS3 beats x360 by huge margins in terms of worldwide sales every week . It is x360 that needs saving

UGA_15855d ago

that 5,000 was just for US sales, If I am not mistaken the PS3 outsold the box world-wide.

HighDefinition5855d ago (Edited 5855d ago )

The PS3 is gonna save GTA. How? Having GTAV exclusively, and maxing out the potential. Since sandbox games at this point, should ONLY be done on BLURAY, same w/ Racing games since neither can use multiple discs. GTAV will exceed GTAIV, which will keep R* going strong. Not like GTA needs saving, but it`s not like the PS3 does either.

mikeslemonade5855d ago

Even if GTA4 was not coming to PS3 the PS3 would still have the strongest lineup in 2008. What other system has the calibar of games like GT5P, Haze, and MGS4 at this time of year?

RecSpec5855d ago

Don't delude yourself, if the PS3 didn't have GTA, the console war is practically over.

Marceles5855d ago

I think if GTA4 went exclusive on any system it would've done some big damage. My hype for the game wasn't that big to be honest but the last few days have had me itching to play it

sonarus5855d ago

If GTA4 was 360 exclusive, ps3 would be fvkd. However the multiplatform nature of the game plays strongly in their favor.

GTA4 won't save the ps3 but it does have a pretty big hand in the eventual success but at the end of the day its a combination of a lot of factors that will bring ps3 victory

I remember at the beginning of the yr when gametrailer did the show and that one guy that said ps3 didn't have any good games this yr and ps3 would never outsell 360 this yr not even for one month haha. Then he went and said 360 exclusives aren't as great as last yr but they don't even need exclusives. At that point i stopped listening.

And if sony can bring the GTA4\PS3 bundle to the states...they will sale even more hardware..

And the PS3 does not need saving....its already outselling the Xbox 360....oh and MGS4 comes out in June.....

I am giving bubbles to all you cool peoples!

MikeGdaGod5855d ago

the ps3 is doing quite alright

off topic:
hey, i'm # 15 in line at my Gamestop for GTA4. how about you guys?

s8anicslayer5855d ago

save the ps3 from what? what a dumb headline.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI5855d ago

Frankly the 360 and PS3 are neck to neck in US, and PS3 is killing it everywhere else, so yeah complete agreement, no need to be saved.

kalistyles5855d ago

PS3 doesn't need any saving. There doing just fine right now. This is just fuel to their fire. 08 is a huge year. Can't wait to see what June 12 has in store for Sony.

permutated5855d ago

Completely agree with you. I don't even have a PS3 and I can see that it doesn't need "saving".

Also, Go Red Sox.

PopEmUp5855d ago

you needs to save more penny to buy all the games that are coming, cause you would be broke if you don't

Real gamer 4 life5855d ago

man i hope metal gear solid sell just as good as grant theft auto, kojima and his team deserve it. they really work hard on that game. Man i know that game is going to be so epic, but the media wont give it the praise it deserves. reviewers wont give metal gear solid a ten even though it will deserve it.

supahbad5855d ago

100% those have been my exact thoughts on advertising of MGS4. GOTY candidate for sure, i think kojima deserves it more than GTA4. IMO

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies14d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken14d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6914d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker14d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6914d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt14d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken14d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
