GTA IV sex video gives Thompson, other critics fresh ammo

Grand Theft Auto IV is one day away from release, and already Jack Thompson has begun to step up his war on the title. The embattled Florida attorney has written a letter to the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, R. Alexander Acosta, demanding that legal action be taken against Take Two and retailers for selling the game. This time, Thompson appears to have an unlikely ally thanks to video gaming news site IGN.

in all fairness, the video WAS a bit over the top lol. They pretty much showed the dirtiest sexual things possible and threw in a little violence for added flavor. It's too bad that this video will be the only thing a lot of people see about GTA IV and they'll base their opinion of the game on it. American society lives on information "bites". It's like we're too stupid and/or lazy to analyze something in its entirety for ourselves. No, we depend on the talking heads at CNN, Fox News, talk radio, etc., to tell us what to think. Hour-long video games, speeches, sermons, and movies are reduced to 30 second clips to promote a certain agenda. There are two branches for Mature games for those that don't know. There is the more teen mature game and then there is the Adult mature game. Since there is no place in any store for AO games at the moment. It will continue to be this way. This content is nothing like what I expected. I was expecting more explicit stuff, but this is same old same old with new graphics and few curse words and one or two new animations with strip clubs. I agree that this shouldn't be sold to 10 year old kids right off the shelves, but that is likely already happening. There is no law to stop things like this, but its up to the vendors to control things like this. Its just like comparing a R rated movie to a NC-17 or Not Rated version of it with R rated movies matching Teen Mature area of games and NC-17/Not Rated films in the Mature Adult. The ratings for the films are the same as the ratings for the games. Just like NC-17 movies and stuff like that where under 17 kids aren't supposed to be let in unless they have parent or guardians with them. Some places are very strict and others are not. There never will be anything stopping this type of thing because if it is there would have to be an attack on the movie industry as well not just video games and that is just to big to attack. Its the same as your kid buying a R or NC-17/NR movie with nude scenes and sex in it and them buying a MA rated game with this content in the game. The games are still cutout really with sexual content. I don't see any nudity in these clips for GTA IV and stuff just normal nudity. So get over it and start talking to your kids about what is on the game.

I personally love the fact that Rockstar gives you the choice to moral or immoral. Last I checked no one had to go to prostitutes or ever kill one innocent person to make it through most of the GTA games. But I agree completely with Thompson, Children shouldn't play it, but it isn't up to the Government to stop them. It is the M rating on the game that should stop their parents from buying it for them.

Well goin off that video there isnt the 1st bit of nudie in the game. That be my guess as to why it rated M and not AO. Other than a bit more curisng it could be a day time soap with better acting. I really dont see how JT could have any thing to stand one. Rockstar and the retailers are all applying to the law that are in place (assuming that they only sell it to people 17 +). If rating board would of gave the game an AO rating and rockstar sold it as a M game that be differnt. There have been games that were rated AO (manhunt) before and rockstar edited the content to get a M rating.

I was reading on Yahoo today an article about the impending contovsery over the new GTA. The article talked about how it is bound to happen and that children and family groups are going to flip. It talked about the belief of these people that the game will lead to mass corruption of the youth and turn them into killers. But then it pointed out the best argument against these idiots ever! There's absolutely no sense in what he's doing. The game is rated M (18+) so where's the point in blaming T2 for something Gamestop or other retailers do wrong and sell the game to "kids".

What a load of total horse poop. I am pretty sure he has never played a video game other than pacman (which teaches us that binge eating is perfectly fine). I want him to play gta4 and see how much he hates it.
As for the minor issue. No store would just sell a copy of gta4 to a 12 year old. They could get fired. I work for a game retailer, and we are required to check ID on anyone that might be below 17. If they are under that age, a parent has to be with them. Then we tell them why the game is rated M if the kid is real young. A lot of times the parents dont know about game ratings or game content. That causes a lot of this poop. Ignorance. On the parents part, on the medias part, and from bible huggers.
This is just the newest addition to the war against vid-games. There is a much larger issue. Its that videogames arnt just for kids anymore. Looking at the past few years, a great deal of games are geared towards more mature people. GoW for example. A whole lot of gore. But its not made for kids. Mass Effect. A "Graphic sex scene" (it only shows a bare ass). If a normal 13 year old played it, they wouldnt understand half the poop that is goin on in the game, nor would he want to explore the romantic subplot. The kids I know, they would be ultra jerks. But I digress. The point is that half of all games are for adults. This is one of them. Its like an R rated movie. The intended audience is adults, not some 13 year old kid who saved up his lunch money.
