AMD drops pricing on Radeon 7000 products

The battle for Xmas sales is hotting up overall, but the surprising news from the channel is just how well received the AMD move to ‘R9′ was. While new products were introduced, a quick look at several BIOS dates/product IDs showed that some were simple refreshes. But it seems to have worked. Which has caused an issue. KitGuru checks for cuts.

That's handy, my ageing hd3870 is on it last legs now lol

wtopez3843d ago (Edited 3843d ago )

Oh boy. It's always great when an upgrade just obliterates what you had before. Hopefully a 7970 at $240?

Magicite3843d ago

that would be mad! my gtx680 still easy runs everything maxed.

GroundZeroesBob3843d ago

You will see a massive difference moving from a 3870 to a 7000 series. Enjoy.

Sarcasm3843d ago

lol wow you do need an upgrade.

urwifeminder3843d ago

Nice I run 2x factory overclocked 7850s so far smashes everything I need will update maybe in two years.

Nocando3843d ago

Running the same setup, I know its N4G but I find the disagrees perplexing.

ABizzel13843d ago

n4g people don't know any better.

I'm using an 7870GHz, I might sell it and upgrade to a 7970, 7970GHz, or Xfire. I don't mind Xfire, but I definitely prefer a single GPU.

wtopez3843d ago

I think it'd be better to wait for the non-reference cooler R9 290. Non X variant. Price to performance ratio is considerably better than a jump from 7870 to 7970. Or at least that's what many benchmarks around the net suggest.

ABizzel13842d ago

Xfire it is, newegg has a 7870 GHz on sale for $130, and a bunch of other incredible deals on GPUs.

No R9 series, but

760: $200 + 2 games
680: $280 after rebate + 2 games
670: $200 after rebate + 2 games
660: $145 after rebate + 2 games

piffyd3843d ago

hopefully this means that gtx 780i I have been keeping watch on comes down to $550 or so

that way I can trade in my gtx 680 and get 500 bucks and only need to spend $50 to upgrade to that sexy beast!

VanDamme3843d ago

You talking about trading up or selling your card?

piffyd3843d ago

got a 3 year warranty and buy my cards at best buy

*its overheating.......

MadLad3843d ago (Edited 3843d ago )

I don't think anyone is going to pay $500 for a 680 at this point.
There's no reason to. You can get a more powerful card for cheaper at this point new.

Ah.

VanDamme3843d ago

That's why I was asking... a 770 goes for $300-$380

Sarcasm3843d ago

Yeah I found some 680s for as low as $250 on craigslist.

PS4OUR3843d ago

Oh god, i want that R9 290 in my PC.

ABizzel13843d ago

You would be better off waiting and upgrading your PC in the next 2 - 3 years. The Maxwell and Volta GPU's are going to be beastly, and AMD is going to have to answer them.

The R9 290X will be mid-range when Maxwell drops, and low when Volta drops. But it should still do 1080p @ 60fps no problem.

PS4OUR3842d ago

yeah thanks for the heads up. i forgot about maxwell and volta lol

IaMs123843d ago

oh man of course a good 6 months after i bought my HD 7950 for $330. Haha oh well you can never keep up, maybe ill just have to buy a 2nd to crossfire them then.
