Top Underrated RPG’s #07: Grandia 2

I loved Grandia II. Millenia is still one of my favorite RPG love-interests amidst an ocean of goody-goody bland ditz.

I hope to have a few more JRPGs this generation. There is very few stand out JRPGs on the PS3 era.

The game that made me wish my PS2 was a Dreamcast. Yeah, the PS2 got it later, but it was definitely an inferior port.

I want nothing more than to find a Dreamcast and play this game again. It's definitely in my top 10 JRPGs ever.

Underrated? How was it underrated? This game was not only popular and widespread on its initial release, but it also found transfers to other gaming systems and internal online stores.

Maybe you should learn what the word underrated is before writing the next chapter of your "wonderful" series...

No, it's definitely underrated, and underappreciated.

People don't know the Grandia games as well as other franchises. To make matters worse, it was on a system that didn't do very well, and its PS2 port wasn't very good. And Grandia III and Xtreme didn't get a lot of screentime, either.

The game's fairly well regarded by those who know of it, but they're criminally few in number.

So who should know about it that don't already? Rpg fans? Jrpg fans? Guess what? THEY DO! And how do they rate it? Highly. That's why it's well known. Hence... it's not underrated. Saying this game is underrated is like calling shenmue underrated. I presume you'll reply that it's not but the truth is that comparison is correct. These games were known at the time, highly regarded at that time, and still know today by the people that count.

It's the only source we got for this kinda thing, but VGChartz doesn't even have the game at a half million copies over BOTH PS2 and DC(and PC, which I didn't know about before now).

And with the Grandia series not carrying the same weight as Final Fantasy, Tales, or even Breath of Fire, it's unreasonable to think that any significant number of RPG fans have even played it. How can it be rated highly by people that haven't even played it?

The same is true for Shenmue. In fact, it's probably worse there, as a large contingent of gamers at the time likely didn't give Shenmue a fair shake. And, again, it was a game on a system without a very large install base, and didn't sell a whole lot of copies. So while a large majority of those who played it may have rated it highly, that number- in contrast to the number of people who rated it poorly and/or didn't rate it at all- is almost negligible.

Grandia 2 is a truly amazing game I enjoy it immensely when I play it many years ago in PS2 even if it was an inferior port I wish for PS4 to get a new Grandia game I hope Game Arts revitalize their old team & start create masterpieces once again :)

Btw on the No2 on this list is Legend of Dragoon & this is very strange because how can u call this game underrated or forgotten when fans beg literally SONY for years & years now on sites on forums on twitter on fb everywhere for a new LoD game? this game is not underrated imo especially in the west there is a very strong following here that love this game very much included me & we the fans of this amazing game can't w8 to hear that a new game is in development if ever this happen it will be a seriously good & exciting day for all of us.
