Announcing YouTube App Coming to Xbox One at Launch

Xbox Wire:

Whether you use YouTube to find cleverly hidden easter eggs in your favorite games, watch and listen to your favorite music, or teach yourself how to roast the perfect chicken, there’s no denying that the much-loved streaming video service has left an indelible mark on the online media landscape. It’s forever changed the way people consume video, which is precisely why we couldn’t be happier to announce that a dedicated YouTube app is officially coming to Xbox One.

I am super pumped, I wasn't too disappointed with not having Twitch myself, but I was upset not having YouTube! This is going to be awesome to snap with.

Kayant3854d ago

Sorry no snapping at launch :( also Twitch is available at launch what's missing is live streaming.

"Of course, the YouTube and Xbox One teams are never ones to rest on their laurels (or rest at all, really), so we’re striving to add even greater functionality in the coming months, like Snap mode"

Wat?? Lmaoooo dat salt. Keep it up green :p

Fact is there is no system wide live streaming on the XB1 at launch expect via a capture card like there's no support for capture cards on PS4 at launch without a HDCP splitter.

I must apologize for MorePowerOfGreens behavior. We accidentally let him go from the mental institution before he was completely rehabilitated.

AngelicIceDiamond3854d ago

I thought YT wasn't making it to the console?

xHeavYx3854d ago

I think it was Facebook the one not supporting consoles

FamilyGuy3854d ago

Youtube is not supporting system linked game play uploads.
They're placing it under the "copyrighted material" flag.

GamerzElite3854d ago

Is that just watch only app or can upload vids?

iamnsuperman3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

It sounds like, from the article, that this is just for watching videos. I assume in the future it will but I think it will be after they have sorted out the snap feature (for some reason uploading to YouTube from a console is still seen as a big no no by everyone important)

JokesOnYou3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

I'm not sure, since they clear said later in the news piece that they are striving to add Snap functionality later but a few paragaphs above they said:

"You’ll be able to stream videos in all of their 1080p glory (Slip and Slide LAUNCH RAMP anyone?), catch the latest videos from your subscriptions like Polaris, or see trending videos from a wide range of categories including Gaming."

-So I'm not sure but that sounds like at launch. I honestly don't care for live streaming, if I put something up it has to be 2-3 mins of something really kickass to "show off". Never done that before but now with the accessibility that's all I could imagine using this for.

Good news though.

This is great news, just that much more I can do with one device.

GarrusVakarian3854d ago

Lets hope its better than it is on the PS3 and 360.

XboxFun3854d ago

I agree, never tried the one on PS3 but the 360 youtube app was terrible. It used to always crash when I viewed more than one video.

GarrusVakarian3854d ago

You think the 360 YouTube app was bad....the PS3 YouTube app was even worse IMO.

Psychotica3854d ago

Not really that impressive since so many other devices offer it already. I have it on my Samsung Smart TV and my Tivo.

dansdooz3854d ago

Well it is supposed to be replacing those devices so its paramount to get these apps on board

I have a smart tv for my apps. But this will he nice for all the people with those dumb tvs. Lol

Wasn't this touted as a feature of Stadia previously and never came to fruition? I swear I remember a whole thing about "watching a youtuber play Assassins Creed? Just hit the embedded play button and immediately jump to exactly where they are in the game!"

just_looken349d ago

It was then it came out in beta i tried it then like alot of google stuff poof gone into the either.

Now its back no doubt behind there youtube paywall crap after you buy the game sense they supported stadia so well you know this will get all that support also.

gold_drake349d ago

google should be more focusing on their google play games to function on pcs already.

i dont wanna wait any longer haha

just_looken349d ago

Windows 11 can do that right now

Though yes janky it would be nice if it was from google but like m$ and its xbox pc app these trillion dollar companies take there time on everything.

GoodGuy09349d ago

Makes sense. Youtube is...a very big platform and been around very long lol. If I could go to a game streaming tab on my youtube app instantly, that'd be cool honestly.
