Eurogamer: Super Mario 3D World review

Compact by the standards of the Galaxy adventures but still loaded with bountiful secrets, beneath the warm familiarity of 3D World lies one of the strangest Mario games in years - or at least one of the most random in its influences and its moment-to-moment indulgences. And that's a very, very good thing. The Wii U sees Nintendo's mascot racing into venerable middle age by going wonderfully loopy - by dialling up the energy, even if the end result is often absolutely insane. After all these years, who could blame him?

Yep it does. Glad I bought the right next gen console. May get ps4 as a secondary console when the price drops and if they start makin quality games like Nintendo instead of relying on 3rd party titles.

I enjoy my Wii U, but...nobody should have a Wii U as their primary console. There simply aren't that many games out for it...or coming out for it. On both PS4 and XBO, we're looking at one to three major exclusives every month.

Super Mario 3D World is going to be VERY good, but there are many games I'd rather play out or coming out soon.

Once NaughtyDog get going with the next Uncharted we'll see what happens. Not to mention Quantum Break looks fantastic

First of all I highly doubt they "rely" on third party content.

Second of all at least Sony and even Microsoft can get good third party support unlike some...

and thirdly least with Sony (can't say the same about MS) don't rely on what...two franchises (Mario and Zelda) as their "quality top games"

That's a very snobby comment...considering that Nintendo's main problem is lack of 3rd party support, and considering that out of of all consoles the Ps4 is prob next in line in first party support.

Gaming needs a balance of 3rd and first party games, look at Nintendo have 1 good game every couple of months to a year instead of expanding it's library.

The only advantage is that Nintendo tends to do first party gaming near perfect since their formula works.

I love Nintendo games, but I can't have them without bf4...the gta series...countless online sports games...and much more.

Also don't expect ps4s to drop in price any time soon, you might see game bundles around xmas but nothing more.

No one can say an exclusive is coming out every month, but the fact that M$ has 15 exclusives to release by 2014, and Sony has 20 means they could very well release an exclusive once every month (in Sony's case nearly 2 per month).

im not saying sony doesn't have exclusives, they have plenty, but people are disagreeing because a lot of what you list isn't exclusive. like outlast, warhammer, planetside 2, MLB, others too. also uncharted isn't even confirmed for a 2014 release yet.
All 3 consoles have great line ups for 2014, but 2 exclusives a month is preposterous.
me saying this doesn't make the people saying "SONY AND M$ RELY ON 3RD PARTYZ" right in my eyes either.

We don't know all of Sony's exclusive because they're keeping the information and leaks quiet for once.

M$ has shown their games for the next year and it totals so we have facts. TitanFall is not any less of an exclusive for the Xbox platform just because it comes to PC.

The same goes for the PS4 games like PlanetSide (a SOE game), EverQuest Next (a SOE game), Outlast, etc... They're console exclusives, and the only way to play them are on console or a gaming PC (which laughingly many people seem to claim to have a gaming PC when it's convenient then it magically disappears when the PC superiority card is pulled).

The main reason it couldn't be done on ps3 is because it's Nintendo's and it's an exclusive, and it's a shame because it looks like an absolutely amazing game...

You must have been absent last gen ... because I do recall the standard definition console outselling the cell processor.. Not to mention Mario Kart selling over 30 million units and counting...

Historically speaking the most powerful console doesn't win the generation ... the PS4 is amazing on paper and yes I bought one .. But everyone would by lying if anything outside of resogun has impressed them. The launch lineup of games arent that great and are marginal improvements on video quality ... We simply wont know what the X1 or PS4 can do until year 2 or 3..

The Wii U sold like crazy through Christmas and then fell off the planet after ... .Who is to say after the initial stream of reviews on the ps4 launch lineup people arent going to wait?

I hope it encourages people who are sat on the fence about Wii U ownership take the plunge.

I for one adore the Mario games but I am afraid there is no way on earth I will consider buying a console to play just one or two games.

It is a shame as I really do love Mario games, and this looks like a humdinger!

I have read a few articles over the last few months about how Nintendo could make more money releasing their premium titles on the other platforms and drop making their consoles. As painful as it might be to see Nintendo cease making consoles, I would love to get Mario on my PS4.

It would definitely be a treat, but don't forget what happened to Sega when they dropped the console and start making games only. They released countless crap and became a bigger whore than the Wii (which had some of the crappiest games I've ever seen by 3rd party developers...I mean games u wouldn't even see on cell phones).

As much as I would think that's ideal, I feel like quality would go down, since Nintendo would be less stressed to sell a system seller.

I just think Nintendo needs to be more competitive, and drop the price of their console. @ 200$ for base and 250$ for game bundle I think that would be amazing, and consoles would pick up in sales.

You can buy a Wii U now with 2 games , Wii party U + Wii remote, and a pro controller for less than the cost of just a ps4...

250 vs 300 isnt going to make a substantial difference (you are already getting that value with bundles)... What makes a bigger difference is proper marketing and Games... Nintendo doesnt need to keep dropping price .. it needs to show people why they need to buy a Wii U.

You do raise a very good point about the quality of Sega's games dropping but I feel like they were on the slide before they dropped out of the console business.

I am not sure they can drop the price any further either, I can't imagine they are making that much profit as it is, those screens look quite pricey.

I keep waiting for the "real" reviews to come in. You know, the ones that say this game is only for kids, it's Mario after all. And anybody who actually enjoys playing this game clearly isn't a hardcore gamer.

LOL, the lowest review I have seen so far is one 8/10 which seems to be the lone wolf review as everything else has been 9+/10.
