Tom's Hardware: PlayStation 4 Scores High On Repairability Scale

Sony's PS4 launched today, and the iFixit team has wasted no time in getting down to the nitty gritty. The site, as usual, was among the first in line for the PS4 just so it could tear it apart and assess how easy it is to repair. The answer? Pretty easy. iFixit reports that the new PlayStation console is easy-to-open and repair friendly, scoring an 8 out of 10 on its repairability scale. Not bad!

Also revealed is that PS4 has an extra 256 MB of DDR3 RAM

- Samsung K4B2G1646E-BCK0 2Gb DDR3 SDRAM

Sarcasm3833d ago

Might also want to note that it's part of the secondary processor that is used for the video upload and background downloading. Nonetheless still very good.

GrandTheftZamboni3833d ago

I'm confused. How much RAM is in PS4:

Samsung K4G41325FC-HC03 512 MB GDDR5 RAM (total of 16 x 512 MB = 8 GB)
Samsung K4G41325FC-HC03 4 Gb (512 MB) GDDR5 RAM

Sarcasm3833d ago (Edited 3833d ago )

^8GB of GDDR5 for main processor and GPU

What you're seeing is 4Gb = 4 Giga BITS not Giga BYTES.

GrandTheftZamboni3833d ago

Thanks, Sarcasm!

So it's 8.5 GB?

Sarcasm3833d ago

^Nope still just 8GB.

16x 512MB (Megabytes) modules of GDDR5, each is running at 4Gb (Gigabits)

I was expecting the PS4 motherboard to have more resistors and capacitors for all of the processing power that they are pumping through it.

Have so much less on the motherboard obviously means that manufacturing costs are lower.

Also, AWESOME that the HDD can be so easily accessible.

Good news for all these having issues with their ps4

1OddWorld3833d ago (Edited 3833d ago )

The issues are few and far between but keep spreading the misinformation.

You are XB defender in every way when anyone tries to compare the two "consoles" you scream get a Pc if you care about FPS or Resolutions. Your comments don't disguise your agenda but make it blatantly obvious what your intentions are with every post.

Why are you afraid of the PlayStation?

heliumhead20303833d ago

This actually isn't misinformation. Their is a known HDMI out problem and the PSN is down as far as I know

1OddWorld3833d ago

@heliumhead2030

I have the console and yes the PSN is bogged down that report is true, and it also has been down for maintenance here and there while they work on issues. But this is not a console issue and will be fixed in due time. Just like any other launch of anything this is to be expected and in turn is not an issue.

I wont even speak about an HDMI problem until you get over an 8% of PS4 experiencing it.

It is misinformation when it is blown out of proportion.

Crazy Larry3833d ago

Verified buyers on Amazon...NOT Xbox fanboys. It is a VERY real problem. http://www.amazon.com/PlayS...

ABizzel13833d ago

The console issue has been identified. It's the HDMI port, but more so, because gamers are just jamming them in there.

I will say many of the ports are VERY STIFF, it's like the consoles is straight off the assembly line. I've seen this before in a few new products, and since it lacks that natural wear these ports are super stiff, and you have to guide the cables in, not jam them in.

When people jam them in it can bend the HDMI port. Sony is already on top of this and sending people shipping boxes and mailing them new consoles out, but they need to get on top of this in the factory and make the port a bit more durable, and nip it in the bud now.

MRMagoo1233833d ago

@crazy larry

There is nothing verified there at all , i just made a comment on there saying my ps4 has rainbow wings , i dont even use amazon or have a ps4 yet i could comment and make things up lol.

Sexius Maximus3833d ago (Edited 3833d ago )

Magoo. Since you said you don't use Amazon, I know you don't have a clue what you're talking about. I'll explain what Larry said. See the term "Amazon verified purchase"? It means a PS4 console was sold to the account on which the feedback is being made. Anyone could leave a comment, but unless you bought a console from Amazon, it won't show up as verified. So pull that Sony branded vibrator out of your ass, and see the truth. Many consoles are working at this particular moment, but many are DOA.

The biggest FUD I've seen so far was the EA incident. As apparently all their games were f*cking up but other games seemed to have no problem at all with the 1.50 update.
The post on the forum was also removed, surprise surprise. :P

Pillsbury13833d ago

Next generation has arrived :D

Angeljuice3833d ago

PS3's are pretty easy to fix, I've fixed many with various problems (mostly YLoD). Its good to hear that the new console follows in its big brothers footsteps.

huh?
it could literally be anything at this point.
its not the room itself, its how they handle the interior design of the room.

CyberV5m ago(Edited 4m ago)

I think it depends more on the voice actors, characters and the feature in the room. It could be in an office for all I care.

Ghost Of Tsushima's PSN May Be Online-Only, But People Still Can't Play It

Sucker Punch’s massive samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima has come under fire because of the PSN requirement. However, unlike Helldivers 2, things are a lot different and more logical this time.

thorstein13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

"Sony has made it clear long before its release that the PSN requirement is strictly for the online multi-player Legends mode in Ghost of Tsushima and the PlayStation overlay. Online connection or PSN is not applied to the single-player campaign, which is honestly what the game is all about."

Extermin8or3_4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Legends clearly was based around using the pan they hardly want to have to design a whole new account structure just to play it, that's alot of effort and work. Ultimately people kicked up a fuss despite there being workarounds in most of those territories that people with a ps console have used over there for literally like 15/16 years. This is the consequence of that, be careful what you wish for or demand because you don't necessarily get to pick the method by which you get it.

melmacj2h ago

This game is not Helldivers 2. Every game doesn’t need to be Call of Duty. I may or may not play one minute of the online component. I’m buying it solely for the story/campaign. Sony needs to integrate it better but Microsoft does the same with Xbox live account. It’s an ecosystem they will always want to tie into the console audience and frankly don’t know why this is such a big deal.

Seafort13m ago(Edited 13m ago)

It is because the PC isn't a console and shouldn't be tied to the same restrictions the console gamers are. If Sony wants PC gamers to buy their games they will need to learn what I and many others will accept.

Trying to harvest our personal details for any of their games on PC will not fly.

cthulhucultist23m ago

cant wait to play this masterpiece!

neutralgamer199220m ago

I want to play it for single player and if I want to try legends I am willing to log into my PSN account. What’s the big deal anyway? If I want to play a rockstar game from steam I still have to have a different launcher and account other that launcher and same goes for UBI. On PC we have so many store front anyway what’s another log in. BTW the way we the pc gamers reacted to HD2 will only mean Sony will make it clear before launch that their online is only available with PSN account
