Report: PS4 Remote Play currently capped at 30fps

El33tonline writes:

"The PlayStation 4′s ability to stream games to PS Vita via Remote Play using Gaikai technology is a major selling point for the system. However, many gamers may be disappointed to learn that Remote Play is currently capped at 30 frames per second for all PS4 titles. This is less than ideal for titles which greatly benefit from having a high frame rate such as fighting games and shoot ‘em ups."

ForgottenProphecy3835d ago

Who care? You probably can't even tell on such a small screen.

DeadRabbits3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

On a big screen the xbone is well and truly screwed then!

Raf1k13835d ago

Not surprising as it would be difficult to stream at 60FPS wirelessly.

YoungPlex3835d ago

I'm so exited for this feature but sadly I can easily tell the difference between 60fps and 30fps. When I play The Wonderful 101 on the Wii U gamepad it plays wonderfully despite the drop in resolution! I can't imagine playing Killzone in 1080p60fps on my tv then playing it in on Vita remote play dropping both the resolution and half the framerates without noticing. Either way I'm still going to use it after I'm done beating it on the tv when I play it over. For games like NFS that run at 30fps it won't make a noticeable difference which makes me happy cuz I like playing on my Vita when I smoke in the back. Can't wait til tonight!!!! Greatness awaits!!!!!

Thegamer413835d ago

To be fair, fps has nothing to do with screen size, its not resolution.
If you play the Jak and Daxter games on the Vita you can see fps issues are certainly visible.
Though 30fps is fine as long as it does not dip below.

Stsonic3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

Oh come on this is blind fanboyism to it's highest degree here.

Using the word probably to back up something you want to be true is not going to win any discussion.

ForgottenProphecy3835d ago

I said "probably" because I haven't't seen it myself. I can barley tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps as it is. (not when they are next to each other, there is a visible difference then).

hesido3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

It's still easy [for me] to tell the difference, even on a small screen, and I care.

Mr Pumblechook3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

Oh come on!

The Xbox One is a full powered next-gen console which displays most games including Battlefield at 30fps and you expect a handheld that is streaming the gameplay from a different system over a Wi-Fi connection to perform better than the Xbox One?! We all get caught up in the console-wars but keep it real!

mcstorm3835d ago

@Mr Pumblechook bf4 is 60fps on xbox one. But regarding the 30fps im sure it will get better over time on the psv.

kneon3835d ago

I expect this has to do with trying to ensure a stable framerate over WifI.

If you've got a clear channel then it's not an issue, but most people will have other devices on their Wifi or there may just be interference from other wifi systems nearby.

Concertoine3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

@Me Pumblechook
Why are we bringing up the xbox one again? This is a vita article, about the vita. If you hate the xbox one so much, shut up about it lol. Especially when you spout BS like bf4 being 30fps. Its 60 on both systems.

Mr Pumblechook3835d ago

@Concertoine. Yes I got the BF4 frame rate wrong - my mistake.

But the reason I mentioned the XB one was that it is a brand new next-gen console and many of it's games are in 30fps so it would be silly to say that the Vita, a nearly 2 year old handheld, should be able to perform better.

hesido3834d ago

Mr Pumblechook: But we are not talking about rendering full on games, we are talking about streaming games that already work at 60fps. On additional note; 60fps encodes do not need double bandwidth because there are less differences between each frame. I hope they increase the frame rate of the streams in future, at least for Vita remote play.

@kneon: The system could try 60fps streaming and could use 30fps as fallback, for cases that the wifi interference prove too much of a problem.

ChronoJoe3835d ago

You can notice it. But I always thought it was downscaled resolution and framerate anyway... so this isn't exactly news as far as I know?

It's not supposed to be exactly like playing on your PS4. It's obviously inferior, but I mean; it's Shadowfall on your Vita, it's difficult to complain if it's not running quite as well as on PS3.

MartinB1053835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

On the contrary, it's very easy to differentiate at a glance between 30 and 60 FPS on the Vita screen. And if I can see that with 30% vision, I'm pretty sure anyone can.

THamm3835d ago

How will this effect NBA2K??

MRMagoo1233835d ago

so it could in fact run xbone games at a higher fps than the games run

ambientFLIER3834d ago

that was so weak that i got embarrassed for you...

MRMagoo1233834d ago (Edited 3834d ago )

No ,weak would be an xbone. nice try tho i would give you 2/10 but this comment was 16hours ago so im taking a point for that so 1/10, thanks for playing and welcome to ignore.

ambientFLIER3833d ago

Oh no! A sony troll with two bubbles and lame jokes is going to ignore me from now on! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

grassyknoll3835d ago

This is a fact. Known for months. It's no doubt capped at that frame rate because of bandwidth.

PeaSFor3835d ago

But but but the outrage!!! Quick we need something while the xbone fangirls still have their boner to downplay something Sony related

Snappy3835d ago

Please explain why it would be a dissapointment? In more detail, the way I see it, it's a added bonus too the system.

Mikelarry3835d ago

what common sense how dare you!!!, i have given up on the internet :)

GentlemenRUs3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

And? It's a small screen...

I wish people would just stop trying to downplay the PS4...

Ghost Of Tsushima's PSN May Be Online-Only, But People Still Can't Play It

Sucker Punch’s massive samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima has come under fire because of the PSN requirement. However, unlike Helldivers 2, things are a lot different and more logical this time.

thorstein13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

"Sony has made it clear long before its release that the PSN requirement is strictly for the online multi-player Legends mode in Ghost of Tsushima and the PlayStation overlay. Online connection or PSN is not applied to the single-player campaign, which is honestly what the game is all about."

Extermin8or3_4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Legends clearly was based around using the pan they hardly want to have to design a whole new account structure just to play it, that's alot of effort and work. Ultimately people kicked up a fuss despite there being workarounds in most of those territories that people with a ps console have used over there for literally like 15/16 years. This is the consequence of that, be careful what you wish for or demand because you don't necessarily get to pick the method by which you get it.

melmacj2h ago

This game is not Helldivers 2. Every game doesn’t need to be Call of Duty. I may or may not play one minute of the online component. I’m buying it solely for the story/campaign. Sony needs to integrate it better but Microsoft does the same with Xbox live account. It’s an ecosystem they will always want to tie into the console audience and frankly don’t know why this is such a big deal.

Seafort8m ago(Edited 7m ago)

It is because the PC isn't a console and shouldn't be tied to the same restrictions the console gamers are. If Sony wants PC gamers to buy their games they will need to learn what I and many others will accept.

Trying to harvest our personal details for any of their games on PC will not fly.

cthulhucultist18m ago

cant wait to play this masterpiece!

neutralgamer199214m ago

I want to play it for single player and if I want to try legends I am willing to log into my PSN account. What’s the big deal anyway? If I want to play a rockstar game from steam I still have to have a different launcher and account other that launcher and same goes for UBI. On PC we have so many store front anyway what’s another log in. BTW the way we the pc gamers reacted to HD2 will only mean Sony will make it clear before launch that their online is only available with PSN account
