Yes..that would be easier. But if that was the case, Xbox Ones across the globe would be inadvertently turning themselves on.

Saying "Xbox On" is distinctive. Something that wouldn't be said in an everyday conversation.

"On" is not distinctive.

OniON, opiniON, abolitiON, confusiON, collisiON, assertiON, infectiON, objectiON, interactiON, passiON, convictiON, observatiON, abortiON, auditiON, religiON, vacatiON etc.

Do you now understand why it wouldn't work for you to just say "On"?

This is lame. I was using voice command for gaming on the PS2 in 2003. 10 years ago.. Yep Socom 1.

It's a convenient idea but lots of problems. What happens if I want to talk about xbox but not play xbox. You mean I have to go turn off the voice recognition off first before I can carry a conversation with my friend!?

Someone explain: How can it be a "cold boot" if the Kinect is on. Please refer to the definition of a cold boot. This is fast, but I really don't think that its booting from death. Its more like a suspend mode.

Yea so it's a feature that I won't be using in the event I get a X1. It's just annoying like the Wii. I could never make the Wii work perfectly with the motion controls.

Right now buttons still reign king in accuracy. Even "touch" is not good enough for me.

But things like touch controls or voice commands shouldn't be the reasons to buy these consoles anyways. It should be the exclusive titles. The last Halo I bought was Halo 2 for my OG Xbox. I miss playing the franchise, so I'm getting an XB1 once that Halo 5 bundle pack for $499 comes out.

And who knows, you might grow to like some of these new features. Sony/MS are giving us features that we didn't know we wanted. I'd never thought of how cool it would be to get a game invite while watching Arrow or Key and Peele, but now that the tech exists, I'm super excited for the feature.

Kinect is an IR blaster and controls your TV, cable box, sound system, ect.. Can turn them all on/off at once. So next.

Sony better get something going quick bc after they're exclusives being amazingly horrendous. the Xbox ones day One line up and titan fall in the horizon. This is not true. Off would mean no power to the XBO or Kinect. This is all in standby/sleep mode.

Both PS4 and X1 will always be powered down to a slow powered mode so updates will occur even when you're not using the system. Unless you unplug the machine, they will remain in a real low power mode.

Once the intial setup is done it always listening for Xbox On, so for the X1 this would be considered a cold boot.

As MS detailed previously the console goes into standbye when it's turned off.

Standbye isn't cold boot because it's the opposite of what the term means. Cold as in no energy consumed before turning on. Standby obviously consumes energy and therefore isn't a cold boot.

Wow. Is this really worth arguing? If you remove power from the unit, plug it in and hit power that is a cold boot. If you turn it "off" it will go into an ultra low power mode which is extremely similar to a standby mode, but using less power consumption. Even when we turn most devices "off" they will still draw power if plugged in.

By definition completely shut off means no energy, it's really on standby.

It can't listen to anything if the system is off.

But with that said, next gen consoles are always supposedly in 'standby' mode. They won't be shutting down completely like this gen.

Furthermore it seems there is still some kind of an 'error' when it boots. You quickly see a flash of the dashboard before you get the welcome screen. Nothing that is bothersome though, but I just noticed it.

I too noticed the flash of something on the screen, in the top left corner you see the box that appears when Kinect is listening. Must be a glitch of some sort, but I'm positive that it will be patched...

For the record it is a cold boot. The Kinect is in standby mode and the Xbox One is off. The Kinect will draw power through the Xbox One power supply but no power is being drawn by the Xbox One itself. Once the Kinect gets a command it comes out of standby mode and then turns on the Xbox One.

I don't know about you guys. But this Windows 8 Eco-system is pretty good. It took me some time to get adjusted to it, but its pretty cool. My buddy brought me a Windows RT tablet a few months ago. I cannot wait to use the Smartglass feature for Madden. But I'm using my phone for Dead Rising 3, lol!!

If Windows 8 is any indication Microsoft should have startup time seriously handled on the Xbox. I have a uEFI boot setup with an ssd and they really did a good job with boot and shutdown times on Windows 8.

I do hope Sony get's the suspend feature done very soon for the PS4, because I'm really looking forward to it.
