as long as they are well written. I was on the fence which system to get GTAIV for but I am definitely picking it up for the PS3 now. Every early preview I have heard all say it runs better (know matter how slightly) on the PS3. I have yet to read anything saying GTAIV is favorable on the 360.

I own both, so I too like to read these comments. I'll pick it up for the 360, though (unlike the poster above) for the fact that in MY opinion, and my opinion alone, I prefer the 360 controller. Also, I am going to be a sucker and get the downloadable content.

I only have the ps3 so obviously I'm rooting for it... BUT what worries me is that they first say that the ps3 is selling 3 times as much as the 360 version (from gamestop) and THEN they say "think twice" on which copy to buy it for. Now the way that COULD be read is that trend shows the ps3 version is selling more so they can assume that most of us are going to buy the ps3 version, and then to that they are saying think twice.

Jerrear Barrea or something Tehcnical VP of Rockstar said in an interview that Sony came in and helped them with the optimisation and moved a lot of the code onto the SPU's, one can safely assume this translates into smoother frame rate, vivd colour pallete, more objects and particles on screen (because of background SPU's) more dynamic sound, destruction etc.

If you dont need more than one shooter a year, theres no reason to buy a 360. If its about talking to your friends use your phone, or wait 3 months for in game XMB. I don't see how anything ways out in favor of the 360 anymore though, with GTAIV actually being better on the PS3.

GTA4 will look great on both platforms. I'll wait until the game is released to say which one looks better. Up until then, everything is useless because people will naturally attempt to make you believe what they want you to believe if you are not privied to the information, but rely solely on blind trust.

Right now, nobody knows but the developers and they are beating around the bush. When the game comes out, I'm sure someone will post side by side screens for all of us to make our own judgement.

No, you spent the $50M to probably end up outselling the PS3 version nearly 2:1 in worldwide sales. But, more importantly, how many PS3s were not sold because of this contract? I'm sure had all else been equal, more PS3s would have sold than actually will. It's called hurting/hindering the competition and MS has the money to do it.

If the 360 outsells the PS3 version worldwide, and it should, then all the PS3 has is MGS4 left to sell systems. I'm sure Gears of War 2 will move a few 360s.

Other than those 3 games, there aren't any real system moving titles. Whoever wins the GTA4 battle will probably win the year.

Final Fantasy 13 I can see selling consoles. Metal Gear to a lesser extent.

The first Resistance didn't sell consoles. The console itself sold Resistance because it was the only game worth playing when the PS3 released.

And we haven't even played one bit of LBP, so how can you call it a system seller when the game doesn't have a sequel and hasn't been released yet?

Halo 3 did help the 360, it gave it a boost in sales during a critical period of the year. Any boost is a plus, whether it beat out the PS3 for the year or not. You can argue that it did enough to keep it competitive.

Many people expect MGS4 to sell a massive amount of PS3s. However, who's to say that the game won't have the same effect as Halo and move double the previous monthly totals for a short period and fall back to regular levels? Many assumed that most people that wanted Halo 3 already had 360s before the game released. Couldn't it also be possible that Many who want MGS4 already have PS3s? We've only know its been coming since the PS3 released. I want MGS4, and I already have my PS3. Had it for over a year, as have many on this site probably have as well.

Its very possible that GTA IV may not move as many PS3s or 360s as we may believe.

PS3 is the only true next-gen system the Wii and 360 shouldn't even be considered next-gen consoles. First off the Wii and 360 still use an old format called DVD which only holds 4.7 gbs of data or 9gb on dual layer disc, the PS3 uses Blu-ray which holds 25gb of data or 50gb on dual layer disc. The Wii has no hdmi port which is necessary for the future while the 360 has an hdmi port 1.2 and the PS3 has an hdmi port that supports 1.3a. The differences first off 1.2 supports 16.7 million colors while 1.3a supports over 1 billion colors. 1.2 cant use Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio and it cant support 7.1 surround sound, while on the other hand hdmi 1.3a supports all that plus more. hdmi 1.2 can only support 1920x1080p60fps maxed out while 1.3a supports 2560x1600p60fps maxed out. An added bonus about 1.3a also supports x.y.Color and Deep Color which 1.2 dosent. 1.3a also has a way higher transfer rate and bit rate compared to 1.2. Also the 360 has 3 core processors which is old news considering Intel makes Quad Core Processors while the PS3 has the revoluntionary Cell processor which has 8 and the Wii has a weak processor we dont even nedd to talk about. The 360 or the Wii doesnt even have an HD movie playback drive the PS3 does. The PS3 is built stronger than both the Wii and 360 it can handle more heat and cold and still not break down. Also the PS3 firmware constantly upgrades the system and by far has the most multimedia compatibilities compared to the Wii and 360. The RSX GPU can handle DirectX 10 level details and graphics the 360 GPU can't. The PS3 is truly the only system worthy of being called next gen and is the most future proof console that ever existed.

I am getting it for my 360 cause the games are not going to be much different from each other. Its funny that people would argue color palette when most people dont bother to research their TV settings enough to opimize their TV's for maximum viewing.....but I deviate.

The 360 is getting not one but two expansion packs. If this game is as good as has been reported these expansion packs are going to add huge lifespan to the game and makes the 360 version the definitive and complete version.

A lot of GTA fans are not hardcore gamers. Most people I know that are into it don't even do the missions. They just run around and try to cause as much havoc as possible. Casual gamers will probably relate GTA IV to PS3. I mean there are a lot of people holding off to buy a PS3 just for this game. I'm grouping these people under the gamers that just buy Madden and GTA games. As for who is going to buy PS3 or X360 out of these people, it's really going to depend on the design issue of proximity. If they had an Xbox before, they will go with the Xbox 360 or if they had a PS2 before, they will go with a PS3. They're going to want the same controller they were using last generation. There really hasn't been anything on either console to lure these people in yet. As for GTA, I only bought GTA III and stopped because the other "sequels", just didn't appeal to me.

I am looking forward to GTA IV because I haven't been wowed by the series since GTA III on the PS2.

Multiplat titles GENERALLY look and perform the same. Its the way its ALWAYS been. Sure some have better textures than others, or some get new features all together(when released at different times) Generally speaking, but the goal of a developer is to keep both sides happy. Do you honestly think that any dev is going to release the same two titles at one time, with the PS3/360 Version being 100x better than the other console? Performance problems aside, the goal is to create the same title on both systems. If you think otherwise you are going to be locked in a world of zooming in on MULTIPLATFORM titles to see which one has better texture filtering.

You want to talk graphics/performance and what console is superior, talk about exclusive titles. Thats generally where the console stretches its legs.

If there are so many arguments over small technical advantages that may make one version of GTA superior to the other, then actually Microsoft was right when they said that PS3 games at best will be on par with the best the 360 has to offer. My point is, and I like Sony and Microsoft, but Sony always make you think you're getting more than you are, when really, all this talk about spe's and cell processors is no different than what Sony does with memory sticks and all their other proprietary stuff, it operates differently but in the end will give you the same results. The fact is that if it is true and Sony did help Rock* with transferring code onto the spe's, then that is grand proof right there that at its best, Sony will never release a game that will make the 360 look like it's a generation behind, and vice versa with Microsoft........the only thing is MIcrosoft knows it.

Sony invested like $60 million dollars into Killzone 2 and as good as it looked in real time, it still did NOT meet E3 05 standards, and knowing that most games will never see a $60 million dollar budget, you should know that only a few games on the ps3 will only offer at best marginal improvements, which actually make the 360 look better because while the ps3 has cell, bluray, spes, and a cherry on top, the 360 is steady truckin on, matching everything the ps3 has to offer with "ancient" technology and limited disk space.

Uncharted,Heavenly Sword Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, and Ratchet and Clank. All fit the description of the PS3 Clearly defining its graphical goals and achievements.

I mean I see where you are trying to go with your argument. But you have to understand that just because you-in-your-own-world don't personally believe that Sony has achieved some amazing titles that have no real opposition outside of the old fall back 360's first year title Gears of War, It doesn't mean that its true or widely agreed upon. And even that argument is old because Epic has already stated that UT3 is graphically superior to Gears.

Sony's killzone2 footage looked great, the only thing missing was cgi hair, which cant be done yet. Sony is working on it if you saw the tech demo with the cat. Yes it doesn't look 100% like the Target Render, which will more than likely never happen. But its 95% there. Its safe to say that a 95% killzone2 is still one of the most amazing titles that anyone has seen footage/gameplay of. You can sneer about how it doesn't match the CGI, but then you would be hard pressed to find a better looking title currently out.

It took the same amount of time for Sony to come into its graphical stride with Ratchet & Clank, then Uncharted. In the same time it took the 360 to come up with Gears 1. Now you can say what YOU want to say about what you think looks better. But the media\critical world has praised Uncharted's visuals, along with other visually stunning PS3 titles.

Multiplatform titles will generally always look the same. If you think you are going to get Crysis graphics on 1 system, and N64 graphics on another system, you are sadly mistaken. Microsoft is right, and anyone with common sense is right. Multiplatforms are always going to look within an arms reach of eachother.

If you want to talk about technology, lets talk about current events. Lost Odyssey isn't 1 disc. Its Multiple because the game couldn't fit on the media. Burnout online doesn't work on the 360's core systems without HDD. MLB2k couldn't fit the entire game on 1 disc, so the content is offered as DLC. Mass Effect couldn't stream load if its life depended on it.

I do know what others are saying about PS3 exclusive titles, Gameplay is always subjective. Visuals aren't. Right now, Sony's current heavy hitters are newer, and just plain more advanced than the 360's current graphical heavy hitters.

I think by now, most people have already decided which version they are going to get, and I doubt that small differences in color or saturation are the reason.

Some people like the idea of free online and future Home capabilities and will go with the PS3 version (not to mention some just prefer the PS3 style controller).

Others like the idea of future downloadable episodes and playing with friends on Live.

Either way, we all get the same damn game. But I guess there just HAS to be some fuel for the fanboy fire anyway.

I'm getting the PS3 version because I own a a PS3 and not 360, so that is my obvious choice. But this is still very good to hear. I just hope all this news is all true about the PS3 version. My response to that is: I feel you are talking some real crap man. I own Unchartered for my PS3 and all I can say is after playing it, it has the best graphics of any console game out. I've seen Gears on the 360 and while it looks very good no it is not better than Unchartered. Unchartered's water effects are just mind-blowing and surreal. I have not seen or heard of any 360 games that can compare to Unchartered in graphics. And what about GT5 Prologue? Just look at the photo-realstic graphics on that - now you wanna tell me that 360 can do that? Come on man, you know fully well that the 360 cannot produce graphics like GT5 Prologue! Metal Gear Solid 4 justs looks more and more graphically amazing each time it is shown public. Where have you read a REVIEW that said the PS3 version was better? Reviews aren't available yet and until then, all we have are a bunch of people claiming one version is better than another. I've read a number of different previews and non of them trash the Xbox. Why then do people make it their job to bring down either version...the 360 version almost exclusively. I am getting the 360 version for achievements, and online play. Home isn't coming for a long time and so their won't be any "trophies" to acquire or integration for that matter. If either version suffers from graphical hiccups or problems, there is nothing to prevent Rockstar/Take2 from patching these problems up. Of the magazine reviews that are on metacritic.com you will near perfect/perfect reviews for both (as of 4/25). Obviously, the graphics of either don't make a difference in the opinion of PS3 or Xbox 360 reviewers yet...why should they period. The game is good looking and better than most.

The difference, whatever it may be, is not large enough to buy one version over the other- based on visuals. If you happen to own one console only, it makes sense to buy it for that one. The average gamer is not going to perceive an advantage either way. Multi-console owners have a harder decision. If one version is proven, 100% to be better and you have to have the best, you get that one. All and all, for me, the decision is based on replay value- downloadable content and online game play are huge factors. Official reviews will help make the final decision.

Indeed, he does have some points. However, when the XBOX was more powerful, there were many fanboys that used that as their basis for why it was a better system. Woohoo, go better graphics. It just seems now that it's flipped, the question of better graphics is no longer a concern because the limelight doesn't shine on their console of choice. Complaining about Sony fanboys changing why their console is better is hypocrisy because XBOX fanboys have done it as well.

Other than that, he's right. Many of the posts on N4G are crap. It's no longer about great games, it's about supporting one single console regardless of anything else. I remember a day when I played games and the fact that five million other people also like that game/bought it didn't matter. Who cares if other people like the game so long as you do. I could be the only person to think the first Parasite Eve was one of the best games ever made. And at the same time, I couldn't care less what IGN gave it for a score, or how many other people got the game. The game had great gameplay, good graphics (for its time), and a solid story that played on a highly implausible concept. I guess going outside of the status quo is now considered taboo.

To answer your question, no, I no longer own a 360. Short version, it was a rough summer, and I needed the cash. I sold it to a friend of mine and no, it has never had any hardware problems. I own a PS3 and a Wii now. That's not to say I think any less of the 360. I would like to play Fable 2 when it comes out. I thought ME looked like it had great potential as well. I may be the only PS3 owner that thinks Ninja Gaiden is better than both GoW and DMC combined.

The reason I bought a PS3 instead of rebuying a 360 was solely based on one thing: My favorite IPs are all on the PS3 (FF, Kingdon Hearts, Tekken, MGS, GT, and Valkyrie Profile to name a few). Sure, I'd like to play Gears, and Halo is probably the most balanced FPS ever made, imo. But, to be honest, I just can't afford to buy a 360 right now. I've defended MS as well as Sony and Nintendo, it makes no difference to me. A great game still retains its greatness regardless of the console on which it's released.

But just like there are fanboys, there are a lot of people who post here complaining about the nature of the site. I really couldn't care less about what fanboys say, because I know what to expect when I visit. This is just a time filler for me and I take it for what it is. There is no point determining which game is better if they're multi-platform. The only reason that this will be valid is if there is a significate difference otherwise no. Stuff like this will make people arrogant over their consoles. What does it matter, developers are humans not robots.

Again, please provide a link, XDR is probably the best RAM out there, it's much faster and more efficient than the 360's GDDR3 RAM, so how can it not handle it?, if you are referring to ports, GTA IV ISN'T one. I have no doubt, both will look and run the same.

360 has 2x GDDR3 2x 700Mhz = 1.4Ghz
PS3 has XDR = 3.2Ghz

How will it?, both 360 & PS3 RAM are handled differently, seeing as the PS3 is completely different to the 360 anyway.

The 360 struggles to keep games running at 60fps on games that really pushes it.

WarDevil, a PS3 exclusive is named to be 1080p @ 60fps, and I have no doubt that the game will push the PS3

IGN confirmed that the ps3 has no pop ups and faster load times, and looks a bit more sharper.Both are going to be great but Im getting the ps3 version because the reasons I mentioned.

It's such a huge leap over the look of previous GTA games on EITHER platform, & potentially even more ****ing awesome to play.

I'm getting the XBOX 360 version because of the DLC.

i guess the DLC are good for the 360 owners, because the 2008 exclusive line-up is not as big as PS3, with Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, etc. I personnally don't need DLC because i get bored with a game too quickly. After i'll finish GTA4, i'll want a different gameplay.

SLIGHTlY sharper textures doesnt make a game better. A 2x better frame rate does. Better control does, extra content helps . So basically their is NO better version but because the 360 has the extra content coming that has the upper hand. Remember they said Slightly better textures. Every review I have read said the same SLIGHTlY and slightly means jack but extra content adds new life to a game.Either way both consoles win witha great game but the 360 gets gta4 gta4.1 and gta4.2

its really a matter of opinion. I just dont understand why sony fannies think the ps3 version is the better 1 when its the same game just a little sharper visuals. Not more textures or better frame rate just sharper because of the aa. I own a ps3 and a 360 I have gta4 coming for 360 and not having a c*nt hairs worth of sharpness doesnt turn me off to a great game.
