NFS: Rivals PS4 vs Xbox One graphics comparisons

Only difference I see is in the lighting system quality. It's visible in around 1:44 when light just pops in on the road sign in certain distance from the vehicle, while PS4 seems to pretty fluently lighten various objects.

This will translate to pretty low difference in action for a game like that IMO.

Game looks great but also leaves me wanting a new Burnout game as well. It's crazy to think that Burnout Paradise was released nearly 6 years ago now, and I can't fathom why EA has just let the franchise die in favor of constantly pushing out a new Need For Speed game every year (with the good ones only coming out every two years anyway).

I did notice pop-in on some objects like trees in the X1 version, and the lighting looks a little different at certain points in comparison. The backdrops on the PS4 version seem more detailed as well. Ovrerall looks pretty good on both systems. Not really into NfS anymore though. Maybe I'll pick this up if it's on sale down the road (pun intended).

Another game where the PS4 textures look muddy. They're either trying to reduce aliasing and going overboard with it, aren't running any anisotropic filtering, OR they used lower quality textures in order to claim native 1080p.

No idea what video feed you're looking at, Andrew. Perhaps you are confusing it because of the weather mismatch. I would say there is a very slight edge in the PS4's favor due to seemingly better AA techniques, though it is hard to distinguish in a compressed movie. ;)

What I had to do was let the vid run to the end (some might not have to), click on the cog, turn it to 1080p, put it to fullscreen, watch it again, and it's obvious that the PS4 version looks better.

The PS4 looks crisp during gameplay, the Xbone is slightly blurrier, most noticeably on the cars; the only time I can't tell is when both cars are in edit mode.

Racing and Fighting have the least things going on screen. While you are racing it's just a steady stream on the background and foreground while your on rails essentially. For fighting it's just two people on screen with an almost static background and foreground.

I agree the only difference i saw was that the X1 version weather effects looked non existent . where as the PS4 look like it was actually raining.....Yes its raining in both..... But im not sure if that's due to time of day of what but the X1 skies look clear.

IGN's footage is horrible, wait for direct footage, any possible noticeable differences won't been seen in this compressed mess, and to be honest they should stop doing these comparison videos.

The BF4 video was awful from them, first the footage only ran at 30fps instead of 60fps like it's suppose to, and it was so compressed that the AA issues on the XBO weren't nearly as noticeable.

What the mother loving hell kind of comparison is this? It's different colored cars, different courses, differe parts of the game compared side by side, how are you supposed to see any differences when you're not looking at like-for-like scenes on each version? This is useless. Not only that, but the YouTube quality is so bad you can't really see the details in any of this. They also didn't do any wipes from one version to another, or anything that would let you actually be able to determine any differences.

The video compression makes it impossible to really compare. The only differences I can really pick out are during the car selection segments. It looks like the shadowing is a bit different and maybe the AA method might be a little different. The PS4 seems to have a slight edge in the shadowing department, but that is just what I'm seeing with my eyes in this crappy video.

Don't use ghosts as a comparison, even the pc version has massive issues, for BF4 all we saw was higher resolution with lower textures than X1 version. As for the DC vs F5 argument DC runs at 30 fps and had a longer production time than F5, which is only about 2 years or so. Wait until better comparisons come out before we have a cock fight.

If that is true than Killzone should look way better than Ryse and Drive club does look a little bit better in environments but lacks the car detail of Forza 5 and cant even run at 60fps.

Killzone if noticed does have it's ups and down, but remember that the Killzone engine runs 1080p with unlocked frame, Ryse runs 900p. Also Ryse runs the already established Cry Engine, while Killzone has a newly created engine. 900p vs 1080p is a difference of 44%, which actually does make sense when your dealing in numbers only. Killzone also runs at a consistently higher frame rate than Ryse.

Drive Club actually looks pretty spectacular when compare to Forza which most people have already seen it as more of a Enhanced 4, with very minimal upgrades when compared to Forza 4.

I'm not say it looks bad, but a lot of people have been complaining it's lack of visual fidelity. Most using Gran Turismo 6 on Current ps3, as a comparison to it, which also runs 60 fps @ 1080p on current gen Ps3.

Don't get me wrong, the games I'm excited for the most are Killzone, Ryse and Titanfall, but forza not so much, I would much rather had a Horizon edition, I thought it was much better!

Maybe my 42 inch tv is not big enough to see the difference between 900p and 1080p, because for me they are both high definition and look really great. Also I thought Shadowfall runs on a modified Kz3 engine. Both Shadowfall and Ryse have amazing lighting effects and great fog and smoke effects its hard to tell which looks better so a win for both sides really.

People get very stubborn when it comes to resolutions.

I'm here to put the myth to rest, it doesn't matter what TV or monitor you play it at, if it's lower than the Display's native resolution it will always look blurrier than native.

The point of the resolution is to match the pixels, if you have less pixels in game, it will simply stretch over the rest of he pixels.

It's noticeable when doing 480p on 720p monitor, I can gaurantee you that you can see 720p vs 1080p and 900p vs 1080p.

For killzone shadow fall it simply says in house engine and Umbra 3.

Coming from pc, resolution changes and frame rate stutters are easier observed since we grew with a different environment.

The resolution is nothing when compared to game play, it's pointless if they run 1080p or w.e with amazing graphics if they suck.

I personally hope Ryse is good, it looks like my style. With killzone I have no doubt it will be good because frankly I bought it opened it and can't return it LMAO!:P

The PS4 is significantly more powerful than the xbone. That is fact. It is fact people! We've all known the specs for a long time, and bf4 and cod prove developers don't have to settle for parity. Yeah, but if you have a look closely at that area you'll see a rolling 'shimmering' effect on the PS4 version that's not on the XB1. I think what you're are looking at is a developer emulating 'heat shimmer' on the PS4, but leaving the XB1 without the effect. The XB1's more 'defined' look comes from the lighting toward the back of the room and through the windows being stagnant. I suspect the 'heat shimmer' would be the preferred aesthetic (and yes it's 'blurrier', but heat shimmer areas are in real life - it's deliberate i suspect).

Would have to see them in proper uncompressed footage to see how that bit shows off in real world.

Peeps remember when a console now comes out the devs are trying hard to get games out for it on day one, a lot of these games are more often rushed because of time restraints, also a lot of devs are now getting accustomed to new hardware/architexture of Dev Kits, so it's not gonna be the best looking game ever...but over time when they get more familiar we'll be seeing the difference in graphics and gameplay for sure. The fact that PS4 has a jumpstart with 1080p will make the biggest differece. Just watch and see.

There is seriously little to no difference at all...I wouldn't be surprised if they are both PC and IGN is just testing fanboys. IF I HAD TO give an edge to one of the two, I'd say XB1 in this case...but even then, I have to admit that it could just be due to the lighting and weather effects that were going on during that particular video made it look better, or the snapshots that they happened to capture....it may not be an accurate representation...either way it looks like there is no clear winner on this one.

somehow I think IGN is helping Microsoft. Downplaying the very obvious graphic difference by everything they can do.

1. blur the image by lowering the resolution of the video and compress the video on purpose.
2. turn on the bloom on xbone's version and make the PS4 version darker

I downloaded both the PS4 and Xbox one BF4 footage and I thought they looked identical.

I wasn't impressed with either system's ability to do anti aliaising and the PS4 version had a brown fog covering the screen which looked bad.

The Xbox One had better darks / contrast.

Personally I think the Xbox is just better,i think in the garage scene the backround windows you can see the ps4 being a bit more blurred ,also the smashed windscreen theres a bit more detail on the xbox one.

The way I see it, the cloud probably doesn't offer as much as all the pr speak suggests. So what you've got here is a gimped ps4 version. It's multiplatform and publishers want to generate the maximum amount of profit, so the two versions have to be identical or they'll face losses from one of them.

The Ps4 is objectively a more powerful machine than the One (not like that really matters), so objectively this game and most other multi-platform games COULD look much better on the Ps4. Again, I don't think the cloud is as incredible as it's made out to be, so it probably couldn't match the performance of the Ps4.

That said, neither Sony nor MS (particularly MS) would be above paying off publishers and developers to make their platform's version that little bit better, and this could possibly cover the publisher's losses on the lesser version too. I feel like if the One version looks better, that's likely because some of MS' money changed hands. Maybe that sounds too conspiratorial, but after all MS have done, should such a thing really surprise us?

Performance and graphics really aren't important, but what I'm really getting at here is the dubious (and commonplace) business practices of corporations like these.

Well the fact that the PS4 is running COD at 1080p (125% more pixels) compared to the xbone 720p that would be one thing to show you, then add to that, the only exclusive on the xbone running 1080p is Forza which isnt doing anything special as far as racing games go and the devs said it wouldnt even be 1080p without putting the AI on the cloud server, thats kinda telling because all PS4 exclusives are 1080p so far.

You have to go to the Youtube site, let the advertisement complete, then there is a little gear at bottom. Youtube defaults to 360p, you can select 1080p (youtube compression).

This shows IGN is still screwing up their post processing after capturing and editing to compare.

Still, the PS4 version is showing a lot more reflections than the XBone and details like trees are still within the draw distance of the PS4 but being blurred by the XBone. The game isn't any graphical powerhouse but the PS4 is definitely the better version.

Xbox version is being played in a sunlight directed stage with a red chromed car (which is why you see more gloss and reflection) as opposed to a purple or pink car in a much darker setting. I made this video. There's no way around compression, it's a part of web video. But it is a relatively high quality encode, and in my opinion it's enough to be able to make distinctions between the two platforms. I think you will find that the Xbox1 version gives the "illusion" of a sharper/less blured image due to effects like Depth of Field being absent. Not only that but I noticed a complete lack of volumetric fog effects on thr xbox1 version too.

Pop in and frame rate drops are rampant in the Xbox1 version though.

Look closely at the background when the cars are in edit mode. The XBOne version is very clearly more detailed/sharper. This is the only difference I spotted in a shot capable of comparison. Must be the added cloud power.

I don't really understand why that would happen, unless the devs wanted background blur but left it out of the XBOne version or perhaps the games are different builds.
