PS3 with the install is sure to have less pop up and load times. Just look at UT3 before and after the optional HDD install. Cleary noticable difference!

Every since I read a preview in P:TOM, I knew Sony was on top of it. Rockstar told P:TOM that Sony had its technicians come in and help. Rockstar said they wore "White Lab Coats" like they were some mad scientists or something. I think Sony gave Rockstar A LOT of attention to insure that the PS3 version would be great. If the PS3 version is superior, than you can think those guys in the "WHITE LAB COATS".

PS3 dropped in sales, 360 didn't gain very much at all. The 500 difference was made in a big drop for the PS3 that month.

Firstly, this week IGN is running a "GTA IV week", where new content is posted everyday. Yesterday we already reported on the interview with the game's Art Director, Aaron Garbut, which can be read here. Last night they published an article detailing four of the game's multiplayer modes - covering Free Mode, Team Mafiya Work, Team Car Jack City and Turf War. Read that over here.

Yesterday we reported on the US edition of OXM giving the game a final score of 9.5/10, as seen here. Today we have news on another Xbox magazine, Xbox World 360(UK), who gave the game a score of 98%, saying the game has an "oscar-worthy dialogue", "unfeasibly rich gameworld" and "inspiring mission design".

If you live in the U.S. and have access to G4TV, then you can tune in this Sunday at noon, as the channel will be showing game play footage of the game. According to them, this will be the first place where such footage will be available to the public.

I think the divide is made bigger by criticising like this.

It's fine we have some flamebait, as long as it's equal. we don't want this site clogged up with only great news for the PS3 or 360 because then we get a biased view of the industry.

But I think the real gamers are here. Just more important is where you'll get the best experience.

Those were my exact same thoughts when I read the article. I am reminded of the Orange Box fiasco on the PS3. Everyone said it was much better on the 360 and that PS3 version suffered from frame rate issues. It really held me back from buying the game. I found it on sale at Best Buy and bought it in Febuary. I can't believe I almost missed picking this one up. The frame rate stutters a bit for about 1.5 seconds after a level loads. Definately not a deal breaker. I had never played the Half Life series before and I now have a new favorite FPS. Portal is a blast also.

In the US, I think the 360 will no doubt outsell the PS3 version, but that has more to do with install base than anything else. There simply are more 360 owners than PS3 at this stage. On the other side of the fence, though, I think the PS3 will benefit more from the game. While the 360 may sell more copies, I think the PS3 will sell more consoles as a result of the game. So, while sales of the PS3 might be a little less than the 360, Sony will make up a little ground as a result of the game. With GTAIV and MGS4 hitting the PS3 pretty closely together, I've seen more people wanting to go out and buy a PS3 for GTAIV than I have people wanting to buy a 360 for it.

So your 'sources' have both copies of the game already and have ran them side by side at the same resolution etc to qualify the 'far more superior' verbiage in regards to the PS# - right. sure.

As for the hard-drive issue and 'pop' issue - remember the majority of people that own xbox360's with a hard drive probably out number the ones that don't have a hard drive. so, this will effect less people than you think. Also, the DVD drive can display things far quicker than the blu-ray player can.

The xbox360 also has the 'optional' install to the hard disk. my guess is without the install its as fast displaying the textures as the ps3 with the install.

Those installs to the hard drive on the PS3 are due to the blu-ray player being too slow. You don't have that problem on the 360. Graphically outside of what filter they applied for the over-all look, they will be practically the same.

I've got both machines but I'm definitely getting the 360 version if I buy it after renting it, I just prefer the controller. Still cant come to grips with the ps3 controller for some reason.

Erm - I'm playing the 360 version right now.

But I'm buying the PS3 version as the one I actually purchase.

As for hard drive installs - I don't see any option for the 360? I've looked and looked, but theres no option for a HD install. As for colour differences, the game has brigthness, contrast and saturation controls - so you can tweak it how you want.

I've not noticed any bad pop up or anything on this 360 version so far - a small delay loading some items when you enter an indoor location, but nothing that could spoil the game.

Unlike yourself, I despise the 360 controller for long sessions, so I'd get it on PS3 alone just so I don't have to give myself hand cramp - but the silence of the PS3 in operation is another big plus for me! Lots of sessions when the wife goes to sleep so I'm forced to keep the volume down. Not much fun on the 360 as I can't hear anything over the racket the machine makes!

All in all, theres unlikley to be a big difference - I guess I'll judge next week when my PS3 version arrives. Buy it for the machine you own, and be content. If your lucky enough to have both, get it on the machine with the controller you prefer for long sessions.

DVD doesn't read the same way blu ray does. It's read speed is different on the outside and inside of the disk. Blu-ray reads the same speed over the whole disk. the average speed over the whole disk is what I'm guessing your numbers are, but the faster read speed on the outside of DVDs is the reason PS3s have mandatory installs on most of their games.

developers can write things that need to be read faster to the outside of the DVD, so they can stream those parts. On Blu-Ray they don't benefit from that.

Again, this isn't because of outside of the disc crap, it's the seek times, they are slower on blu-ray, it's like with Oblivion, data is duplicated to decrease seek times, but once the data starts loading it loads faster than the 360 version, I have no doubt that the other games that require install's are because of seek times, studios will take advantage of the PS3 by multiplying assets on the disc to minimize seeks, and read it all in one go at 9MB/s (blu-ray speed) anywhere on the disc.

... I own a PS3 and 360, and personally would like to buy the PS3 version for reasons such as I have a very old 360 and well RRoD is a concern, plus the PS3 is a damn sight quieter. With regards to the DLC, by the time it is released (October I believe) I would have completed GTA4 and moved on to something else, so for me DLC isn't that big an attraction. For the record, I really like both consoles.

However, until the media embargo lifts on Sunday and I can see the PS3 version running, the jury is still out for me at least. I've seen various bits of footage, both on PS3 and 360 and its looked poor on both systems, but this has been down to dodgy video recordings. There was a video released the other day however which was much higher quality (Driving gameplay) and that did indeed look slick, however no one can confirm for certain which version this was.

When playing a game like this, the better the framerate, the more playable the game and its the first thing I look for. From the videos I have seen, its clear that the 360 version runs at a nice framerate. If the PS3 can match or better this, I'll be a happy camper.

Rockstar are probably doing what Paramount did and that is to take the money. has a relationship like Sony had with Square-Enix when it was Square, now Sony own stocks in that company. Maybe they own stocks in Rockstar as well maybe they might have wanted to buy them. All i know is Rockstar will not screw over Sony. Also for my PS3 gamers M$ paid for the extra content, Sony can have extra content made for them if they want to. Anyway i heard that the game is seriously huge. You will not have time for extra content plus newer gamers are coming out for the PS3 from Rockstar. It matters not which system we play GTAIV on if the story content isn't good, and thats what matters.

Last I thought MS didnt say to rockstar that they had to limit the game to a single dvd. The days of multi-discs may be something from 10 years ago but it still works. Is swapping discs really that difficult?

Another point is the lack of hdd std in the 360. Again, MS didnt say to rockstar that they had to make the game as if there was no hdd to use. In fact all devs are told to make the game the way they want to which includes (and not limited to) hdd support.

To say one version is superior because of the inclusion of hdd and large single disc storage is more convenient than a requirement. The proof in the pudding will come down to 4 factors: graphics, sound, gameplay and online.

Whichever version has the lions share of those 4 things will be the one to get.

I have been playin the leaked copy for a few hours now and i have to say it is a class game, it reminded me why i play games.

I will be picking up the ps3 version on the 29th also cause i just think rockstar and sony are fairly tight and rockstar aint going to stab sony in the back by giving them a inferior version. Also it helps that all my friends are getting it on ps3 :)

*clover didn't make it(meaning no original creators making it-shinji makami and hideki kamiya)no clover-NO BUY

*the game is just not as cool as the first game.

One simple statment made by the guy from rockstar(cant remember his name my bad) that he liked the way the ps3 renderd slightly better than the 360 has led to all this ps3 plays and looks better stuff lol. Now remember he doesnt say that it LOOKS better only that he likes the style of rendering on the ps3. I am a huge Xbox 360 fan but have to admit that opting for GTA IV to be ran without the HDD is a HUGE mistake!

I can say that having PLAYED both retail version of the game that the PS3 is superior! How superior?

Less pop up, less fade in and very steady framerate! On the other hand... the Xbox 360 version DOES look much better! And I mean not just the colors but also the detail level and lightening. PS3 does suffer from JAGGIES!

Fanboys will always say their consoles version is superior even if it's not. Until you've seen both versions running side by side you can't compare them. Just because some fanboy website said it's superior on one system doesn't mean it's true. I own both consoles and have chose to get the 360 version. But that is not because I think it will be superior. It's because of the DLC which rumours say will be city size expansions. If it wasn't for the DLC I would have a hard time deciding which version to get.

Maybe its like elder scrolls oblivion you can see more in the distance and load times are better this is what the cell is all about. However its really nothing compared to what they could have achieved if it was made exclusive for ps3. They should start work now on GTA5 exclusive for ps3 and show how much better of a game they could make without the 360 bringing down the ps3. It all leads to it, Microsoft is trying too hard to convince people before lunch that the 360 version is superior, why? because after lunch when everyone realizes that the PS3 version is better, and that the 360 version has some issues, their sales won't be very good.

PS3 is the only true next-gen system the Wii and 360 shouldn't even be considered next-gen consoles. First off the Wii and 360 still use an old format called DVD which only holds 4.7 gbs of data or 9gb on dual layer disc, the PS3 uses Blu-ray which holds 25gb of data or 50gb on dual layer disc. The Wii has no hdmi port which is necessary for the future while the 360 has an hdmi port 1.2 and the PS3 has an hdmi port that supports 1.3a. The differences first off 1.2 supports 16.7 million colors while 1.3a supports over 1 billion colors. 1.2 cant use Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio and it cant support 7.1 surround sound, while on the other hand hdmi 1.3a supports all that plus more. hdmi 1.2 can only support 1920x1080p60fps maxed out while 1.3a supports 2560x1600p60fps maxed out. An added bonus about 1.3a also supports x.y.Color and Deep Color which 1.2 dosent. 1.3a also has a way higher transfer rate and bit rate compared to 1.2. Also the 360 has 3 core processors which is old news considering Intel makes Quad Core Processors while the PS3 has the revoluntionary Cell processor which has 8 and the Wii has a weak processor we dont even nedd to talk about. The 360 or the Wii doesnt even have an HD movie playback drive the PS3 does. The PS3 is built stronger than both the Wii and 360 it can handle more heat and cold and still not break down. Also the PS3 firmware constantly upgrades the system and by far has the most multimedia compatibilities compared to the Wii and 360. The RSX GPU can handle DirectX 10 level details and graphics the 360 GPU can't. The PS3 is truly the only system worthy of being called next gen and is the most future proof console that ever existed. PS3 is superior.
