BB thinks that the ps3 will sell more. plain and simple. I think this deal shows that. WHY? Because we see NO deals with the ps3.

However, playing the devils advocate, I can say that they expect that in the US (where the company resides) they can sell more 360s with a deal than the ps3. They think that the 360 version will sell better and therefore want to take customers away from other retailers....

The problems are not the bundles or the offers, etc...

The problem was the $50 mill in DLC, that was followed by bragging, then by trash talking the PS3 version, then by multiple ways of persuading consumers the wrong way....

Why the wrong way??? Because they were hyping the game as the complete experience which it ain't... It's just extra missions that WILL be charged.

On top of that they trashed the PS3 install time (which can only improve the experience) just because they want it so bad and so desperately.

The only thing Sony has done is announcing a bundle. Nothing else...

As soon as Rockstar delayed the game last year... MS got more desperate than ever... The sad part is that they are doing this for a multiplatform game that won't make a difference.

So to answer the same question most people is asking...

This really isn't a offer from Microsoft but rather Best Buy is capitalizing on a big game franchise. Think about it, people buy the 360, plus GTA IV, and get they're $50 GC. They turn around, and use that $50 GC and allllllll the money just re-circulates in Best Buy. It's an old retailer trick and has nothing to do with Microsoft being "desperate."

How was the DLC, could you review it for me? Were the Missions big? Turth is, for as much as you would like to downplay the DLC, it is a dicision maker for some. It made mine for me, I have both consoles and am leaning toward the 360 version because of the option to buy the DLC or not.
I do agree that the back and forth from Microsoft is a little ridiculous but I don't think that it is anything out of the ordinary for the industry console makers. They always make mention of what they have that the competition doesn't. But I think desperate is the wrong word. I really think they are just motivated. Could be semantics but the 360 doesn't have much coming out in the next couple of months until NG2 hits, and the hype machine needs some fuel.

The DLC for the 360 is a great addition for the hardcore fans and for more than casual gamers.

Still, it won't make a big difference in sales or in the console war..

MS could have impersonate GTA4 characters and visit homes throughout the US to promote the game... They could've made a bundle for every continent and it was all good... But when you rely on cheap talk and low blows.....

It was one person working at Rockstar who said that, not some kind of official statement from Rockstar. The article also stated that this was his personal opinion, and that the rest of the staff had their own opinions in wether one version was better than the other. Some preferred the 360 version, some the PS3.

Micro and Sony are partners in other business deals (PC most notably) but they both want to be the platform of choice for GTA4. Sony offers the game free, with the purchase of their system, WITHIN the box.

As I've said before, I don't give a stone-chip F*** about sales figures, but since these two companies (Microsoft/ Sony) are really pushing GTIV as hardware cannon, I think I'll be reading up on it more.

I'd like to see who's strategy will prevail in terms of overall hardware/software sales lead.
I've also decided to buy the game, when the hype dies down. The deciding factor for me could be DLC. I'm waiting to hear what Sony's DLC will be and compare it to Microsofts own offering, till then, I'm not buying it for any system.
Because even if you're one of the people that say DLC isn't important, think about when you're bored with your games or have beaten them all or most of them, or a combination of the two... oh, look.. it's new Missions for GTAIV "let's fire it up once again".

Well BB on the other had has been pushing the PS3 in general as well.

For the past few months, since it started pick up steam, in the paper they always have a seperate 2 pages for the PS3/Sony TVs, pushing the fact that it's a BD player. Understandably, as selling people a game/BD machine means potential for them to come back and buy 2 different kinds of products. Games and movies.

BB clerks also push the PS3 whenever people are shopping for HDTVs.

Buy GTA4 with the PS3 and get free online and the game is bundled with it and the cost of the console remains the same. Buy it on the 360, pay full price for the game and console and have to purchase Live to gain full access to the online features and they slap you with a 50 dollar gift card? Not to mention that you are getting a BD player, WiFi, and the Sony reliability when you purchase the PS3 and not some bare bones console that might break the day you fire up GTA4...
