Simple 2000: The Japanese Hardware Chart

The Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G bump gives the PlayStation Portable another very good week, down from a fortnight of six-figure sales, but still outselling the competition by a healthy margin. That's fantastic news for Sony, whose other PlayStation platforms aren't fairing so well this week amid generally underwhelming release lists. Wii sales were up, but not by a margin that one would expect with such stellar Mario Kart Wii sales.

What a small little market...Why do we care anymore. I remeber Japan used to be a reference but now i`m starting to realize how useless it is.

It is not that I don`t like japanese culture for videogames, I loooove them, i`m just starting to realize how small a market it is.

edit : Just realized it was for the week. Still, North americain numbers blow this out of the water though. Just pointing out that is is smaller, you know, small like the size of the e-peen from people that dissagree with me, lol

Is it me or is it that Japan doesnt give a damn about next gen.

I cant believe even the PS3 couldnt pass the 10 000 mark ( even the 360 is surprising I know the 360 isnt huge overthere but geez 1100 is very week )
What do you people think the reason is ? Next gen is doing well in USA and EU ( 360 is ok and the PS3 has taken off ) so whats wrong with Japan ?

now i'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and say that japan has turned pro handheld or casual. i think its the fact that the casual is being stolen from sony by the wii until sony gets to that price point. and the hardcore just dont have a game yet that would entice them to go and buy a ps3 yet. until mgs4 arrives and a cheaper price of course.

when is the last time the playstation ever had a system over there priced at 400 dollars? and this is not a rhetorical question by the way.

I do believe the PS3 is the most expensive console ever in Japan. However i believe its a factor of price,game release and gaming preference that is negatively affecting PS3 sales. Japan seem to have shifted from hardcore/mainstream to mainstream/casuals. Yep. Sony Japan seriously must start to do something and adapt.

just realized that there is another handheld besides the ds and it might actually be just as good if not better how impossible

those numbers are horrible i hope the new Valkyrie of the battlefield game helps japan sales of the ps3 or we'll have to wait a month and see if mgs4 will help

as for the 360: no commment i cant think of anything that will help them msoft is probably scratching their heads trying to think of something it just doesnt seem to take

The Japaneses people think of next gen as to something that they haven't experience before,like the the wii which its delivered the revolutionary gameplay, with pure fun that everyone can play without the trickery of either the 360 or ps3 so yeah that is why that most casual consumer have been caught by the Nintendo Wii.

I'm sure the ps3 sales are slow due to the rumours of new bundles coming soon, i.e. GTA bundle/ gun metal MGS bundle, If I was looking to buy a PS3 I'd be waiting in anticipation of the bundle

Capcom took MH3 from the Playstation to put it on the Wii. Wait until that comes out.

It's crazy the PSP outsold the PS3 about 10:1 but even more nuts it outsold the 360 about 75:1

Japanese sales are more important than a lot of ppl might think, considering how many developers they have.

But yeah, looks like the 360 isn't doing so hot, oh well, there's always the 720.(lmao)

I don't think Japan is as important as it used to be. With all the "major" Japanese publishers wanting to reach out to a global market. They see that both North America and Europe spend a lot of money on gaming. Just looking at the software figures, you'll see that Japan doesn't spend the kind of money as the other territories do.
