Konami Discontinues MGO outside of Japan

Well before it even goes up it looks like MGO has come down..... permanently possibly... or atleast until the Jpn servers come up... I guess Konami is showing the world who they really care about. For Japan the beta has been extended to May 11th.

You know it's called "beta" for a reason. You shouldn't expect more than a testing ground. This sort of stuff happens quite often on "launch" dates. Somehow no one can estimate the demand. Xbox Live had problems Christmas 2007. That's 2 years after launch. Warhawk had ranking problems and a bug stating the server was full when it wasn't.

Whats good about this is that because they can fix it now, this will most likely not happen on June 12th when the game launches. After all that's what beta is for.

Hope this issue is resolved ASAP.

BTW, Sony has NOTHING to do with this. People shouldn't blame the PSN because they are getting errors. This beta, the problems with ids, errors should be blamed on Konami if anything. This was the way they wanted it to be. Deal with it.

It appears Konami's Japanese website was updated and here in Japan were having trouble with connection issues as you are all aware. Due to the nature of this error. Service of the beta will be shut down temporarily for maintenance and repair. Konami obviously did not expect this much anticipation and demand for the premier of the MGO Beta.

This could possibly put the beta test in the can and close it shut.
Here is 2 probable reasons why it might not come back up for world wide use.

1. The Konami system ID and PSN ID conflict presented issues outside Japan. Konami's ID program was well established and incorporated in Japan already. Sony needs to work closely with Konami to incorporate and help them with other regions.

2. Beta key vouchers are only valid up until 05-06-2008. How will they be able to update all of those key vouchers and extend them longer. Its possible to do so but it will take a long time to do. By the time they are finished the game won't be to far off from its release date.
So whats the point?

Its highly possible but we shall see what happens.

Ok, so i really dont know what im going to do when MGS4 arrives. Kojima says that its a big dissapointment, total crap, 1/10 etc, online play dose not exist, they had SO much time to work this out, probably thought that only japanese care about this beta. I'd hope people aren't truly blaming the PSN for this, as I recall a certain high profile beta last year on a competing console that made you purchase a $60 dollar game to participate in suffered a similar fate. awwww man this is the biggest dissapointment of 08 so far... I do not know how you under estimate mgs... especially when they have the high expectation of shifting 1 million copies in a day... The people defending SONY here is quite staggering. The point is regardless of whether it's Konami servers and nothing to do with the PSN. It's all via a SONY branded console. So invariably this could be viewed as bad PR for SONY.

SONY has allowed Konami to put the BETA up for its console and therefore it's also down to SONY to make sure it runs smoothly. There's two sides of looking at this.

1. It's good PR - people are talking about MGO and the fact that the demand is very high - is great for the hype machine!

2. Konami/SONY underestimated the demand and now look a little foolish as a result - bad PR.

Konami was unprepared for this one, that's for sure. I didn't think they knew hoe huge this was going to be. They should have been better prepared, knowing how many fans are out there who enjoy the series. Sony really shouldn't be blamed completely for this. Even though it's a Sony franchise, Konami should take the full force of the issues surrounding the beta. But I do not hate Konami at all. I just hope they really start getting it together so people can play the beta. I'm a MGS fan but I stayed out of the beta because I had a feeling this was going to happen and I didn't preorder anyway.

By the way for the people out there who want to be in the beta but can't you can share the online beta with someone, so find someone who has the beta and see if that person would want to share their account with you, i downloaded the beta from my cousins account, he even hooked up his friend so i figure that you can share the beta with up to 4 people, depending on how many accounts you have. The power of sharing is the motha f*cken sh!t.
