Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning PS3 Review (2D-X)

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is 38 Studios’ 2012 open-world, fantasy role-playing game that surprised gamers with its unique take on fluid fighting and sandbox style gameplay. Unfortunately, due to underwhelming marketing, low sales, and a release date just three months after Skyrim‘s, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning crashed and burned, taking its studio with it (38 Studios declared bankruptcy and closed its doors indefinitely). However, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has had a recent spark of life due to its free-to-play Playstation Plus release. If you’re a PS Plus subscriber, consider this a title that you must check out. Although it may lack multiplayer functionality, its single player does not lack in originality.

When you talk about fantasy role-playing game, my answer will always be Reckoning. For new gamers liker us, things have been made pretty simple and easy to handle. Just loved reading your review.

Really fun game.Always wanted to buy it but never got around to it.

Was worth the 14gb download.Shame it came to PS+ around the time as GTA V tho.Seems like this game is cursed with horrible timing lol

Love playing as rogue with them Fae blades and bow!

Not perfect by any means but that hasn't kept Amalur from being one of my most favourite titles this generation.
It just needed to be a bit more of a challenge and I would have loved an online coop variation.

Looking Back at Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning

Do you remember the good old days, when video games put fast hack-and-slashing combat sequences and extensive levelling systems first and a deep narrative with memorable characters second? BigHuge Games certainly banked on gamers holding some kind of nostalgia for those titles of yore with their fantasy RPG Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning.

This is hilarious that i would see an article after I went and re-bought the game and playing it all week! I love the QTEs in this game its satisfying, the combat is fluid where you can switch from weapons to magic so easily, the weapons, armor, quests, character customizations, lore, world, voice acting, are all great this game has almost everything you'd need and want from an RPG!

I really wish there was going to be a KoAR 2!

The journey comes to an end.

Would LOVE to see a sequel to this brilliant game. Wouldn't mind a remake for current gen systems either.

Hypnotic2925d ago

Last I heard this studio went out of business so I would think a remaster is pretty unlikely.

InMyOpinion2923d ago

Never say never, Darksiders 2 got a remaster.

I think EA owns the rights to it now. I loved the game as well. A rare gem overlooked.

Went into a cave for a mission...Mission glitches and I can't start the mission or exit the cave...Auto save and manual saves are within the cave....I messed up so bad I quit. Really good game though.

such a great game, shame about the studio.
to produce something of that quality as their first title, just imagine what they could have done with more experience.
