Rockstar talks GTA 6 and beyond "we're not fantasising" about next gen

OXM:Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser is "interested" in creating games for Xbox One and PS4, but insists this wasn't remotely a consideration during development of the resolutely current gen GTA 5. Houser's lot aren't in the business of employing technology for technology's sake, apparently, and they haven't set aside ideas, features or content for any hypothetical future releases.

That kind of kills hope for any GTA taking place out of the states again

Which makes sense because it would require growing up and being engulfed in a nations culture in order to make a thorough satire like GTA makes of America. Not to mention most people would probably take offense to an American developer making satire out of a foreign nation.

The thing is there are not many countries in the world that are as diverse in their culture the way America is.

GTA works so well because it cuts across sooo many different peoples and cultures. From Afro american gang bangers, rednecks and hippies to the latin american mob... etc all in one location.

Not many cities of the world can boast all that.

Would love it to be set in my home town. We have gun crime here. Severe gap between the rich and the poor. We have a massive African as well as Jewish community.. plenty of eastern Europeans...

I honestly don't want GTA to leave the states. GTA has been ingrained into American social culture, whether for better or worse. Just look at the millions of teens and adults who buy the games here.

Eh, I think we should explore Alderny state (The GTA equivalent of NJ) a little more. We got to see some pats of Alderny in GTA IV but there is so much more they could do with it.

Being a native of New Orleans, guns and drugs is a problem every day over here. One of the highest murder rates in the country and police corruption at the highest since the 90s. But also, we have some of the most famous and rich people that live here. It's the perfect place for GTA, plus with a nice french subculture in the downtown area.

I think R* could keep repeating their several main US cities and it could work out if they just keep adding features with each generation or so:

- Increase physical size and scale of the map
- More packed with interiors
- More interactions
- More immersion

There's a lot that can be done. Imagine being able to interact with basically everything, or having nearly everything simulated. R* did say their ultimate goal is to create the ultimate simulation. It's clear they're not going to stick to crime, driving and shooting.

There are many places to start. It may be too early, as a gamer to be already thinking about it, but if only in a future GTA just the simple act of car-jacking becomes a challenge, and the NPC doesn't just give up his car.

It's all these little hypothetical features I hope R* try to create that I think will define and add dimensions to each generation.

I'd like to see them set a game in a decade with half decent music again... like vice city .. but the 70's . That way they can get rid of the mobile phone irritation ... and rap/thug culture

Everyone will be super polite when you steal their cars...they'll offer to give you money to fill up the tank.

When you kill people on the streets, you get piles of coins instead of stacks of bills.

But there is kinda of traces of a patern, since they intend to stick to America, and they already did Liberty City and San Andreas (only Los Santos) they are still missing Vice City on this current gen Story Line.

I would never play a GTA set outside of America. GTA is America.

It will be at least three years before we hear talk about next gen GTA.

A bit off topic, but wasn't there a game on the PS1 or 2 that was set in the uk? But you couldn't walk around only drive in the streets? Good game I recall.

Yes, an addon to the first topdown game. An updated 3d version would be great. I doubt they would do it though as it wouldn't generate as much interest in the US.

They could put both Chicago and Detroit in the next one, like how San Andreas had LA and Las Vegas. They're only a couple hundred miles apart in real life.

I think they should do a GTA in 1980s mob-run Las Vegas (Las Venturas). Maybe let you buy and run casinos to get rich or even pull casino heists with a team, Ocean's Eleven style. There's a lot of interesting possibilities and an endless number of possible activities with this setting. The strip, the surrounding neighborhoods, the vast deserts. I can imagine the strip looking incredible, in-game.
