Could PS4 Be Developers' Preferred Console?

Well, here’s an interesting tidbit: Adrian Chimielarz, former head of Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly (who’s subsequently started his own indie studio to work on the combat-less next-gen Vanishing of Ethan Carter) has tweeted that a consensus among developers seems to be that the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One.

PoSTedUP3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

dev: "Xbox, on"......"Xbox, turn into a PS4" ..........? hmmm. "Xbox, get back in the box..."

allformats3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

It's already the preferred console to developer games.

xHeavYx3915d ago

I hope devs take full advantage of the PS4, then dumb down other versions if they need to

ZHZ903915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

That's what Xbox fanboys always deny that PS4 is more powerful, faster and easier to develop and more ofcourse.

Hater gonna hate.

LoveGaming3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

Whats funny is this was the EXACT same reaction the Vita got

"Ohh developers love it, its so easy to program, its uber powerful blah blah" yet apart from ports 3rd party developers forget it exists.

The point i'm making is people are judging the consoles before they even released lol, they made the same stupid mistake when the Vita was announced and it was supposed to "Nintendo Got Powned"...

JP13693915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

Love-
Completely different market with different needs that Sony has failed to properly cater to. Their console efforts have always been supported by both third parties and some magnificent first party studios. That they haven't managed to generate the same kind of support in the handheld market won't change that.

Edit: I should make myself clear: While you are correct that the Vita is in serious trouble, there is no correlation between sales of one or the other. Sony makes great console games but, unfortunately, they don't seem to realize that you can't just slap those same games onto a smaller screen and call it good. Portable games generally require a different play style, and as I said, this is something that Sony has been largely unable to provide.

PoSTedUP3915d ago

@love: yeah except this isnt the same scenario and ceraintly wont be the case lol.
and third party support on vita will depend on the sales, right now it has some good third party titles just not a wide variety of them. this will change as it sell more, and after the ps4 comes out. next year looks great for the vita, and its gona get better especially after this price drop.

cleft53915d ago

There is no reason for the PS4 not to be there preferred console. It's clearly more powerful, cheaper, and only has one operating system to program for as oppose to 3. Why wouldn't it be there preferred console?

Saigon3915d ago

But this won't even just increase the game count for the Vita. I guess what I am trying to say is that the remote play is going to take gaming into a different realm. Seriously, its unheard of to play a game on a console and then continue playing the same game uninterrupted on a handheld device. This is going to change how we game and also allow other countries, Japan, to play continuously with their favorite games. I honestly think this was a smart move and may be the difference with this coming generation. I am sure devs are looking at this feature and are taking it in with stride, not just for Sony but also MS. Also when Vita came out, many people did not buy into it because they thought the surrounding peripherals, and maybe the console itself, was too expensive. this iss not the case anymore, with a significant price drop across the board and the integration of every PS4 game with the Vita.

Eonjay3915d ago

Lol, no they would prefer a weaker console that will limit their ability and creativity.

DragonKnight3915d ago

@LoveGaming: If this said "could the Xbox One be developers preferred console" you'd say "yes" or something along those lines.

The devs have been speaking for themselves, so if you want to live in denial about what they've been saying, that's your prerogative. Don't try and create a 1:1 correlation with the Vita especially considering you likely don't even own one.

mewhy323915d ago

The general consensus is that it's already the preferred console. More power, more capabilities, remote play, overwhelmingly winning the Pre-Order battle.....developer after developer stating how much better it is than the bone...yes preferred.

PS4 was made by devs after all .. they ask for it and got it

MysticStrummer3915d ago

Yessir. Designed with lots of developer input, more powerful, and easier to work with.

Win cubed.

come_bom3915d ago

"Could PS4 Be Developers' Preferred Console?"

Depends... the console where the developer makes the most money is their preferred console (or platform). Simple as that.

blacktiger3915d ago

amazing comment plus previous comment is good too which I totally forgot. Sony did ask developers how they wanted, and most of them responded.

PoSTedUP3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

what platform they use for the devkit and then port the game over to, doesnt depend on what kinda money the platform brings in, its what they Actually prefer taking the actual hardware into account, and how well they can replicate their vision with the least limitations. e.g. i sell the most ice cream in NYC but the reason i sell a lot is because i get the best ingredients from philly. (i am not an icecream man btw) im just saying i prefer the location of philly because they make it happen. in this case devlopers will probably get the best ingredients from the ps4 and sell the most icecream on the ps4 : )

DJMarty3915d ago

@come_bom - Going on Polls and pre-order sales the PS4 is miles ahead(most sites are stating that), so PS4 will likly be the Devs perfered box.

Also come launch PS4 will be in 32 countries compared to 13 PAYBOX.

NatureOfLogic3915d ago

Why not. PS4 is better than X1 in almost every way.

UltimateMaster3915d ago

Well, even if you don't pay for PS+, most of the online options are still available to you. Including Online Multi-Player for Free-to-Play Games.

STANK083915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

@NatureOfLogic Thanks for elaborating. I agree with all your points sir. Your *Logic* is disgustingly atrocious BTW. LOL

On a serious note, could you guys please have proof of these "PS4 is preferred console" claims. 1st party doesn't count

MysticStrummer3915d ago

"On a serious note, could you guys please have proof of these "PS4 is preferred console" claims. 1st party doesn't count"

You could try reading the article, which is referring to this other article...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

He says PS4 is both more powerful and faster to develop on. I'd think the list of devs who wouldn't prefer that would be very short... if such a list even exists outside of MS's 1st party studios.

STANK083915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

@MysticStrummer To be fair I asked for proof of DEVS stating that PS4 is the preferred console. You provided me with a baseless assumption.

ZHZ903915d ago

And who are those developers did you asked?

LoveGaming3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

PS3 was better then 360 yet 360 was preffered console to develop for... your comment is invalid

Foxhound9223915d ago

You love to make pointless remarks that have no correlation with the topic on hand. First you spout about the vita not being preferred by developers, which shouldn't even be mentioned because not only is it in a totally different market, with different scenarios, but a different developers as well. Now you talk about the 360 being preferred. Do you have any gaming knowledge or memory what so ever? Of course it was preferred, it came over a year in advance. It was the first to the market, and the first to be widely used as a form of development. Secondly, although the ps3 was slightly superior, it was difficult to develop for, as it was completely new architecture. You also seemed to leave out the part that later during this generation, the ps3 has been the preferred console to develop on for a number of games. And the fact that a lot of multiplats run the same, if not better than their 360 counterparts. Just thought I'd run a few facts by you to make your argument invalid. Now. It's a completely different scenario, the ps4 and 360 are launching simulataneously. The ps4 is more powerful, faster, and extremely open in regards of development. It's a no brainer that a lot of developers are going to flock to the ps4.

Hicken3915d ago

PS3 was not easy to develop for, meaning that its power wasn't readily available to all devs.

Your comparison is invalid.

first1NFANTRY3915d ago

nice troll account, your comment is irrelevant.

ot: considering the fact devs pretty much built the ps4 i would imagine it being their first choice for game design.

byeGollum3915d ago

Well, it's n4gs preferred console ...^_^

Bathyj3915d ago

Well this is where gamers congregate, and its gamers preferred console.

Its like saying fishfood is the preferred food in a fishtank.

sashimi3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

Yet the 360 was the preferred console back on n4gs during the earlier years of current gen. My how time have come and gone.

MysticStrummer3915d ago

MS fans conveniently forget those days.

ziggurcat3915d ago

could? it's been known for a long time that devs love the PS4.

Codey473915d ago

No...he just loves to take it in the stinkbox

Sony CEO says although AI "has been used for creation," it's "not a substitute for human creativity"

"AI is not a substitute for human creativity. We position it as a technology that supports creativity. Creativity resides in people. We will continue to contribute to people's creativity through technology," the CEO said.

...not yet but 100% within the next 10 years!

..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.

isarai5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

They used to be 😞 sure it was always a business, and money's always the priority, but they used to have a very strong stance on supporting artists and creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" was a phrase they touted a few times back in the ps1-ps3 era, a philosophy carried over from their music branch PlayStation was created from. It's not COMPLETELY gone, but it's barely there compared to what it was back then, i just want them to return to that.

Eonjay4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I am highly encouraged by their statement about human creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" is exactly what they are saying. But at the same time, I don't think people understand that Sony is a corporation. If they don't realize growth, they don't get to exist. When you say 'Sony', you are talking about a bunch of investors. To speak about them any other way is a illogical and incorrect. They haven't changed. They have been a group of investors since they became a public business.

isarai5d ago

Ugh, i really wish people would stop gambling people's livelihoods by turning a project/game into their political soapbox. Im all for statements and having your own opinion, but there's more people working on this than just druckman, ham fisting your political beliefs onto just seems inconsiderate for everyone elses job security when it can result in a failure due to people avoiding it for that reason.

I play games for escape, im so tired of nearly every AAA game blatantly dragging real world issues to shove in my face when I'm trying to take a break from it all. They don't even bother to be subtle about it, quite the opposite, it's blasted and force fed to you and it's just getting exhausting

Einhander19724d ago

People are taking a whole interview and cutting it down to clips that make him look bad and take what he actually was saying out of context. For example he also said things like this AI has "ethical issues we need to address"

-Foxtrot4d ago

@Einhander

Why defend him at this point?

It’s not taking things out of context, he said what he said.

Old ND would never talk about soulless AI taking over so many creative things they are well known for. The whole “ethical issues” is just a good PR spin people who push this crap fall back on to make their statements not seem as bad. So many AI lovers do this.

AI has no place is so many creative based things.

Einhander19724d ago

Well yeah, because everyone else is using it so they need to stay competitive. It's the same as paid online, they didn't want to go that route but their competition was making so much money they needed to add paid online just to keep up.

RaiderNation4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

AI will never replace humans in game development in terms of conceptualizing new games. Humans still need to come up with the ideas and what they want to implement. However much of the day to day menial coding could be AI driven to reduce production time and team size. I could also see AI being used for bug testing/optimization that could lead to better quality games at launch. I'm actually very optimistic about how AI can positively impact game development.

Good statement but hopefully this holds up

NotoriousWhiz4d ago

People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.

It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.

Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.

15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.

Eonjay4d ago

AI in and of itself is not a 'bad'. Money is bad. Money is evil, and corporations will do whatever they can to get more of it. They will find ways to implement AI to replace as may jobs as possible. This isn't even up for debate. It is the charge of the corporation to maximize returns for the investors. They have no choice. I'm a developer and I know that my job will absolutely be replaced. Therefore, I have decided to become an AI dev. AI has a lot of potential to help us solve problem on a scale most can't even imagine. The issue, as ever is that our monetary system only ever allows us to focus on greed and fiscal growth.

But I am a pragmatist. Perhaps an AI model can be built to help protect us from our most dangerous instincts and habits. And perhaps Congress can pass laws to protect us from people who would use AI to manipulate and control us (spoiler: they wont).

RaiderNation4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Progress is inevitable. Nobody driving cars today is complaining that the horse and buggy is no longer around. Yes, some jobs will be lost but guess what? With innovation comes new job opportunities. It's how the cycle of the job market works.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers34d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken33d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

z2g33d ago

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing33d ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H933d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola33d ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66933d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle33d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg34d ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos34d ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

I think if used correctly it could work well

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
