Unity Engine's Photorealistic Characters Showcased With Oculus Rift & Razer Hydra Support [NSFW]

DSOGaming writes: "A while back, we informed you about a demo running on Unity Engine that featured the most photorealistic characters we've ever seen. This demo was created by Infinite Realities (that was basically 3D scans of real life models in ultra high detail. This technique can be used and on other engines) and YouTube's 'LipowitzFilms' has posted a video, showing off this demo running with Oculus Rift and Razer support."

There is also a download link for those interesting in actually running the demo (which is said to be really demanding) than watching the videos

NYC_Gamer3895d ago

What are the rec specs to run the demo?

2pacalypsenow3895d ago

shouldn't take much its all just static and with minor movement, maybe lots of ram tho

The Ultimate masterbater toy ever

This is really awesome technology, I really hope Sony is going to be doing something with VR tech.

Timesplitter143895d ago (Edited 3895d ago )

the download goes veeeeeery slowly for me.
Looks like a lot of people need it for.... educational purposes

cyguration3895d ago

Oh of course.

This is one of those demos where the boys -- uh, I mean, -- the kids will be spending hours "studying"... the kind of studying that gives you wrist cramps.

no specs given. All they said was: "These demos are not optimized at all, so I wont be surprised if users get below 60fps if all models are viewed at once. You really need a next-gen PC to run this demo."

Are_The_MaDNess3895d ago

my GTX 580 ran at over 90 FPS. no problems here. and that isnt really a new card either. XD

edgeofsins3895d ago

I'm gonna try it on my laptop with an A8-4500m processor and a 7670M + 7640G.

Studio-YaMi3895d ago (Edited 3895d ago )

I ran it on the highest setting (beautiful) or whatever it was,I got 40-38 FPS.

My only problem is,I don't know how to start the demo ordinary,I mean without it being for the Oculus Rift(2 screens next to each other).

Can you help ? I don't have the Oculus Rift.

PS:
Nevermind I found it,hit TAB and it will switch from Oculus Rift view to normal view.

Hazmat133895d ago

unity seems like a great engine, i have yet to see any game take full advantage of this engine.

Eldyraen3895d ago

A lot of engines are like that unfortunately. Tech Demos are always better than any game they ever show running on them.

I can understand why its like that but still disappointing.

cyguration3895d ago

Ah, you'll see plenty of the Wii U next year and in 2015. They've been handing out Pro licenses to a lot of registered developers to make AAA-quality games.

Bathyj3895d ago

Amazing demo. I would have enjoyed it more if the guy liked women but.

TheLastVoiceOFsanity3895d ago

i thought i was the only one who noticed that. at first i thought he was having a hard time figuring out how to shift the focus.

ironfist923894d ago

Or maybe it shouldnt matter what gender virtual character he decides to view for its technical marvel?

TheLastVoiceOFsanity3895d ago

the unity engine & virtual reality technology is going to be what makes the video game industry truly mainstream in probably the next 10-15 years, hopefully the singularity will get here in that time frame.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7360d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt360d ago (Edited 360d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal360d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow360d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal360d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt360d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
