The 2DS, and Nintendo’s disregard for developers

The 2DS is a bad idea. It doesn’t matter that it’s a good idea for young children who can’t handle 3D yet, because they don’t have real incomes.

The real issue is that targeting specifically 3-6 y/o is too narrow. They have a cheaper option and forgot how much money they could make if they targeted it at ALL potential 3DS gamers. If they had made a half-decent 3DS-styled 2DS, they would have gotten lots of purchases from people willing to buy a cheaper 3DS. No one cares about the 3D aspect, but people will care about the ugly, less portable design of 2DS.

The Article's saying:
"What's the point in developing games for the 2DS, they have to make games specifically for 2 screens which is harder than your average Smart Phone. They've also removed the 3D, making it with less technology, therefore having less interest for the console because of it."

People shouldn't be forced fed technology they don't want or aren't using.
The 2DS is only a new model, nothing has changed.

One thing I've been curious about, if the 2DS doesn't support 3D, then do the devs still have to make the games with 3D in mind? (they obv have to program it in for when the slider is used), or are they forced too?

The 2DS and 3DS share an operating system. Devs are making games that work on both systems. You actually don't have to make a game with 3D for the 3DS. Most companies are, but I can compile a list of games on 3DS that don't have any 3D at all.

Heck, while we're at it, we'll shut down Disney World. Kids can't afford that. They have no incomes. In fact, I can't believe that Disney World hasn't closed already. Its target demographic has no income!

I think they just carry on as normal - they make the game for 3D, and the 2DS just works as though the slider is turned off.

I don't see the problem? No one like 3D and no one uses the 3D much on the 3DS. I sometimes forget the 3DS even has the 3D feature, it doesn't make games that much more better, and Nintendo doesn't make its main priority which is good. Even 3D tv's aren't taking off as people thought they would. Nintendo doing this is a great idea, because not only does it get rid of a feature no one uses much, it gives the customers a much cheaper version, and a more solid design, no hings mean it won't get loose, especially for kids, who breaks things easily,so parents wouldn't mind paying $130/£110 because it's not expensive. Also parents can't complain and sue Nintendo for the 3D effects when kids under 7 play it. That article is just another Anti-Nintendo topic same old, same old. I'll tune in next week to read another article on why Nintendo should go third party...

I wont bother reading article, but I thinkt he 2Ds is a pretty crappy move seeing as it's not that much more inexpensive and really...if a parent is actaully smart they can turn on parental controls and just disable the 3D....the classic 3Ds is also much more portable and compact...even the XL is more portable.

This is a fugly, usless move by Nintendo. I'd prob agree with the move if the thing was 99.99...then I'd say "HEY! it's a portable wii basically"...but at this rate...meh.

I'll stick to my XL...and I guarantee you most ppl will stick to regular 3Ds...pay about the same and get 3D as an option.

3DS - $169.99

2DS - $129.99

So $70 cheaper than the highest sku isn't that much more inexpensive?

And $40 bucks cheaper than the regular sku is nothing. I think you forgot to count.

Seeing as the highest sku is a bigger handheld if you see from the screen shots the 2Ds is around the same size screen as the 3Ds..so compare it fairly. The XL is like a luxury line, its mostly for ppl with bigger hands or that want a bigger screen. The reason I personally mentioned the XL is because its the unit I personally own, which is a justified purchase...even it's only 30$ more exp than the 3DS for a bigger screen with 3D.

40$ is nothing, cosndering the regular 3Ds has seen its fair of sales including 99.99 for the first gen black and blue models.

@ 129.99 and a launch around Christmas which is when the 3Ds drops in price, yes I think its a lousy price for a broken 3Ds.

This would be like the Vita taking out OLED making it bulkier and saying hey, here is a less quality unit for 220$ enjoy!
@220$ vs 250, i doubt anyone would want to give up what distinguishes the vita from the rest. The same with the 2Ds, no 3D no point they might as well have called it DS 1.5

THE 3D was Nintendos current gen marketing and newly introduced feature, them taking it away just looks bad at this point...they could've at least made the unit look better instead of a 2D unit in 2D shape as well...silly.

We're dealing in entertainment products, not necessities of life, we're also dealing above 100$ price tags, if your buying an entertainment unit over 100$ then we're all affluent.

40-70$ off is bragging rights, not a matter of life or death.

You can take it or leave, you dont need it to live.

A unit that is also 3 years old, needs to also age in price not only components.

$70 is a lot of money to a lot of people.$40 is a lot as well. Just because you don't see that doesn't mean other people won't.

To a family on a budget, maybe a 2Ds isn't the thing they need. Not trying to be a snob, but if you can't afford it you shouldn't be purchasing it. The item is a 130$ entertainment product. A family that can afford it can prob afford the 160$ or 170$ product. Also families on a budget look at used too...there are many possibilities for a family to get their hands on a 3Ds.

You guys seem to be focusing a lot on the cost comment I made, I suppose you guys agree that the design is wreck?

You guys are focusing a lot on family and very little on the company, its a 3 year old product with no price drop other than initial. All 3Ds should be standard 129.99 by now, this is the main reason why I think that it's not that much more inexpensive to justify a half complete unit.

nintendo will do well this gen. the 2ds will reach a $100 price point or lower and the vita will probably struggle to get to $150. the wii u will get to $200 and the PS4& XBOX ONE most likely wont get there during this gen.

Why are people still on about this? The 2DS is for a very niche audience. The real 3DS is the only unit developers and older gamers alike should be concerned with.
