Nekro, an action RPG of sorts all about summoning evil minions to do your bidding, just got a release date of April 3rd a few hours ago. DarkForge Games revealed it in a video update and in that update they revealed plans for Steam Early Access and PAX Prime, while also revealing that they have cut out a few of the core features. No longer will this game have a randomly generated world, nor will it have crafting.
Scott Thunelius, the main designer at DarkForge Games, explained that, "in a random world you don’t know where things are going to end up" and that alone created massive challenges for the small team of seven. There were also issues with difficulty balance and how much control they had over the levels.
If you were a backer or fan of the early access kickstarted game Nekro, it appears that the game is no longer being developed.
In this review, Michael gives Steam users a preview of Nekro on Early Access, a real time strategy game that could have easily been a mod for Warcraft 3. - "the game has such a simplistic feel in terms of actually playing the game, that I feel like it could almost be considered a Warcraft 3 mod on its own rather than it having become a real game. Not to say that it was a mod, but given the playstyle, and the map functionality, it seems almost like it should have been."
There is something quite delicious about being evil within a videogame.
Normally we are tasked with saving the world, but in this early access preview the name of the game is wanton destruction - Writes Derrick Ritchie
