Project Phoenix Focuses on Story, Not Graphics or DLC. PS4, Vita, same day as all versions.

Project Phoenix is being developed in Unity and is currently coming to PC, iOS, and Android. The Kickstarter mentions possible PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions, but negotiations are still ongoing. Yura says that all versions will come at the same time.

"If we are doing doing the PlayStation 4 and Vita, everything is going to be launched simultaneously," he tells me. "We hate people giving away stories or writing spoilers on Facebook. Worldwide on all regions and systems. We are planning an English and Japanese release."

Yura tells me that Final Fantasy IX was the last time a game in Square Enix's leading JRPG series actually moved him. Although that game was released over a decade ago, Yura still remembers it as "fantastic." I ask him if Final Fantasy's heyday inspires Project Phoenix's style.

"We've got so many inspirations, but there's so much of our own stuff here," he answers. "I can't really give you one or two games. I love Blizzard games. I love the way Squaresoft and Square Enix told their stories."

Dude the people working on this game is brings me back to the Dream Team days of Chrono Trigger - Square, Enix and Akira Toriyama.

This game's Dream Team is beyond incredible!
Its the best of east and west, bro.
Final Fantasy, Tenchu, Valkyria Chronicles, meets Diablo, Halo, Assassin's Creed, L.A. Noire, my goodness!

I dropped more than the 60 dollars that I said i was donating earlier on another Project Phoenix post because I have such a great feeling about this game. The level of talent that they have working on this game is masterful to say the least. On kickstarter you usually see such people as the likes of Nobuo Uematsu among many others. The concept art for the graphics look beautiful and I know with all the money that they are getting now they will be able to do even better. This is exactly what i have been wanting for so long on kickstarter. I am so intrigued by the secret developers they have on this project and I have a sneaking suspicion that Hironobu Sakaguchi is going to be one of them.

Did anyone go to the site and watch this?:

This is a game I'm going to be looking forward to for certain.

Yeah. A game with a great story and gameplay with bad graphics is great. A game with a great story and gameplay and great graphics is better. Don't sacrifice on nothing. Gameplay, sound, music, graphics, story, ui nothing. Everything should be great.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3924d ago

They werent implying that they were going to skimp on graphics but that will not be the main focus. I trust them to make something beautiful. Beautiful, artistic design is more important for a game like this than hyper sophisticated graphics though which is how they will make there game look great.

dredgewalker3924d ago

If this game brings back the old school charm then I'm definitely gonna purchase this.

chrispseuphoria3924d ago

One of the best RPG's I've played this generation is Persona 4 Golden and that had PS2-esque graphics.

To drool or not to drool. THAT is the question...

SilverSieryu3924d ago

It looks like its just going to be a hybrid of pure awesome! saw that they are aiming for 50-60 hours for the story! thats amazing for an indie game.. would be great if it gets a physical game release for the systems as well. i know they have the kickstarter limited version but a normal one would be wonderful to see!

porkChop3924d ago

The game is shaping up very well. I'm hoping it has an overworld with tons of places to go and explore, similar to early 3D FF games like 7 and 8.

dcj05243924d ago

Yeah. I loved the open world part in 13.

Rimeskeem3924d ago

Running at 180 fps on the PS4

MrTrololo3924d ago

Can anybody tell me how the gameplay style would be like ? Is it something similar to diablo or something like FF

ABeastNamedTariq3924d ago

From the Kickstarter page:

"Project Phoenix is a SQUAD-BASED, REAL-TIME STRATEGY GAME combined with strong Japanese RPG design influences, brought to you by top Eastern and Western creators..."

So...neither I guess.

Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble Is Still In Project Phoenix's Shadow

“I do want to finish the game. I do want to, I even want to, I never said this in an interview before, but I even want to refund their money because we didn’t keep the timeline.” Yura explains.

Japanese Game Developers Kickstarter Struggles

Kickstarter backers can be a negative bunch, but it seems they reserve most of their piss and vinegar for Japanese developers. Why is that?

Breaking Down Project Phoenix's Million Dollar Budget Blunder

Joanna Mueller writes: "In the end, CIA's increased scope only served to drive backers further away. Players were not impressed when the team finally released a vertical cut of the new 3D gameworld. CIA was reluctant to start over after investing so much money into their 3D models."

I feel bad for anyone that backed this project. What a mess
