If you’ve played one Worms videogame, you’ve played them all. Chances are you’ll know someone who has said this at some point. Perhaps you’ve even thought it yourself; it’s not hard to take a look at the screenshots or read a list of bulletpoints from a fact sheet and feel that Team17 have relied on incremental updates for far too long. However, last year’s Worms Revolution genuinely pushed against the boundaries of the classic Worms formula and made all that had gone before practically redundant. Can this year’s addition, Worms: Clan Wars, lead to the same seismic shift in the franchise?
This week, you can get Steamworld Dig for only $5, or pick up Worms Clan Wars for $6. Flatout is $2, Flatout 2 can be yours for $2.50, while Flatout 3 is $7.50, and Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is $5.
In an interview with Strategy Informer veteran UK developers Team 17 revealed that they will be taking a year-long break from their signature Worms franchise, after a mixed response to last entry Worms Clan Wars.
When asked at indie event Rezzed how Clan Wars had performed, Business Development head Nick Clarkson said, "Sadly not as well as we'd hoped. As a game it's probably the most complete version of Worms out there, at least on PC. Certainly post-launch the support for it was very good, there was bugs here and there and the team kept on top of it."
I think they named it hoping it would piggyback off the crazy success of Clash of Clans.
Worms celebrates its 18th birthday this month and to celebrate Team17 is holding a free-to-play Multiplayer Weekend on Worms Clan Wars and offering a discount off its entire Worms Steam catalogue.
