It looks very cool but I do wonder how people think this will make any money. 500 is a lot of money. I would love one but 500 is way to much

For a full-on 360 degree treadmill? I don't think that's a whole lot. Quite frankly, I was expecting it to be more expensive.

iamnsuperman3938d ago

O no I was expecting it to be more expensive but there is that point when it doesn't how cool or advanced the tech is, it is just too expensive (especially when for 500 it doesn't come with the Rift). It is one of those products people would love and would sit their envious of people who have one but not buy one themselves

fattyuk3938d ago

$500!

Blimey I was expecting it to be a tad more than that!

^^^^^^

$500 isn't really alot of money to some people I earn that in about 3 days, less than that in fact.

die_fiend3938d ago

Well get you! Don't you actually earn in GBP? What do u do that makes u such a big dog then?

fattyuk3938d ago

Yeah earn in GBP thanks,

$500 is around £320, I earn around £130 a day

Didn't say I was a big dog

xx

HammadTheBeast3938d ago

Even if you have a terrible job, you could make $500 in a couple of weeks, about a month if it's part-time.

I never knew McDonald's payed so well. XD
OT: looks cool and all but I don't think the gaming market is ready for something like this. Maybe in ten years time or so, when stuff like the oculus rift has gained serious traction. The price should be more affordable by then also, I can actually see ms buying the company out and boxing it with future versions of the Xbox and kinetic. . . . . . . .

The $500 price is really cheap and affordable for VR enthusiasts when you compare it to the more high tech walking/running VR machines like the Virtrusphere which cost $50,000-$100,000.

When we have these in our living rooms 20 years from now, we will have people like this to thank.

Expensive but interesting, i have never been into motion gaming but really this is interesting.

SillyYou3938d ago

A bit expensive. I'll wait a few years till the tech is more advanced and cheaper.

steve30x3938d ago

I dont have space in my sitting room for this. Otherwise I would love it

Anyone who pays $500 for a piece of moulded plastic is an idiot. They can manufacture this for $10. The bundled Kinect can be no more than $100.

Lionsguard3938d ago (Edited 3938d ago )

Do you even understand how things work in the world? Of course it costs less to manufacture, though if you think it costs $10 to build, you're the idiot. Hell people pay up the ass for phones but it costs the manufacturers just a fraction of what people pay.

$500 isn't just for them to build, it's to cover R&D and other things that went into it and to also *SPOILER ALERT* to turn a profit! That's right they didn't build this thing for charity! I could pay $500 for a treadmill but $500 to exercise running around in Skyrim? sign me up.

The margin on this is ridiculous. That's the issue.

Look at the bill of materials for an Iphone 5. Forget the electronics, just look at the precision manufacturing required for the nano-SIM slot, you're talking micrometre precision.

The webcam LED light in a Macbook Pro relies on $250k custom lasers to punch tiny holes through the metal - http://venturebeat.com/2011...

The Omni is a piece of moulded plastic. No moving parts, no specialist machinery. It costs as much to manufacture as a plastic lawn chair. Do you understand manufacturing at all? $10 is an exaggeration, but it's closer to that then it is $100.

They turned a profit on the $350/unit Kickstarter campaign. You sure are treating them as a charity by donating an extra $150 margin per unit.

Once they get the graphics up and this tech. gets into the $800-$1k range, it's over. I am happy that Sony is getting the jump on VR gaming. it's going to be insane.
