The Worms franchise has been around for a very long time and it’s come a long way since its humble beginnings on the Amiga in 1995. Nowadays you can name just about any console and chances are, there will be a Worms game on it. From SNES to PlayStation and iPhone to PC, the series sure does get around.
It’s a series that has constantly tried to remain relevent by mixing up the gameplay and adding new features. Worms 3D explored a new dimension while Revolution added a game-changing fluid mechanic and now Worms Clan Wars has entered the ring, attempting to take the place as the penultimate Worms game, exclusively on PC.
This week, you can get Steamworld Dig for only $5, or pick up Worms Clan Wars for $6. Flatout is $2, Flatout 2 can be yours for $2.50, while Flatout 3 is $7.50, and Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is $5.
In an interview with Strategy Informer veteran UK developers Team 17 revealed that they will be taking a year-long break from their signature Worms franchise, after a mixed response to last entry Worms Clan Wars.
When asked at indie event Rezzed how Clan Wars had performed, Business Development head Nick Clarkson said, "Sadly not as well as we'd hoped. As a game it's probably the most complete version of Worms out there, at least on PC. Certainly post-launch the support for it was very good, there was bugs here and there and the team kept on top of it."
I think they named it hoping it would piggyback off the crazy success of Clash of Clans.
Worms celebrates its 18th birthday this month and to celebrate Team17 is holding a free-to-play Multiplayer Weekend on Worms Clan Wars and offering a discount off its entire Worms Steam catalogue.
