Oculus Rift Plus Motion Controls Make Shooting Almost Too Realistic

The simplistic demo pits a single player with a gun against an battalion of alien soldiers. Physically ducking with your body lets you hide behind crates to dodge their blasts, and Lipowitz’s setup allows for precise control of the gun.

The demo is so realistic, he says, that some players get a little too immersed.

“Please be careful when playing this demo,” Lipowitz wrote on the forums. “Lots of people try to support themselves on the crates when they try to stand up or when leaning up against a column, but find there is nothing there!”

Oculus rift is looking awesome.

Even better now John Carmack has joined Occulus' dev team.

I really hope they do some console support too. Can you imagine them doing that and having all the big developers get behind it? That would be one huge leap for gaming.

I'm sure the console makers will eventually get on the VR train after it gains success and momentum on the PC, but personally the PC is the far better platform for VR gaming.

It has the power that is needed to run advanced next gen visuals at 60fps in stereoscopic 3D (with things like high quality texture filtering and anti-aliasing to create a more pristine image quality). It has the openness that allows for a ton of creative stuff to come out of the indie and mod scenes. It can even offer things like, ahem, adult content that the console will never support.

Don't get me wrong, I want the consoles to support VR gaming because I want more people to experience it and for more games to be made for it. But the consoles simply won't be where I will do most of my VR gaming.

....think about if someone would make MGS game...
then the VR mode would make perfect sense.
also heart attacks for me because i panic alot.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7374d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt375d ago (Edited 375d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow375d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt374d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
