Why Microsoft Was Right to Change Their Xbox One Policies

Recently game designer Jesse Schell said Microsoft and Sony’s mistakes have been listening to their costumers, as he made an example with the Xbox One’s policies reversal. Here is why he is wrong.

Microsoft did a good thing when they changed their policies but I can't see myself going back after they tried their best to shaft me and rape my wallet.

I use to be a loyal MS customer- No, more than that, a fanboy, but now I can see clearly.

MS was happy and willing to shaft me over in the beginning, and that is something I won't forget.

golding893928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

Although I respect your opinion but Xbox one day one for me. :-)

Edit:@SexyGamerDude "overcome the dark side of the force" lol

I find you lack of faith disturbing buddy

SexyGamerDude3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

Yes, I was once like you. But one day you, yes, you too, will see the errors in your ways, my young padawan. You too have the power to overcome the dark side of the force.

4Sh0w3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

Shaft you? nobody got shafted, you cried, they changed and still the changes are not enough for you which tells me there was never a strong desire to own an X1 anyway so if any of us lost out it was those of us who saw benefits in the old policy and are still buying the console despite the setback. I suspect people still complaining never wanted an X1 they just don't want those of us who do to enjoy something different. Game sharing alone would have been more economical and convenient than selling my game.

GusHasGas3928d ago

My story is practically the same as yours.

PS4 day one for me.

Sitdown3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

Seriously doubt that you were loyal or even a fan boy of Microsoft....there is not single of the big 3 companies that will not "shaft or rape your wallet" if given the opportunity .....are you saying you are giving up console gaming?

LOGICWINS3928d ago

If the PS3 launched in 2006 with no competition, the story would be totally different. Fortunately, MS humbled Sony quickly. But its clear what Sony INTENDED with that $599 price and bare bones online suite.

ANY console manufacturer will screw you over given the opportunity, the only difference is that the shoe is on the other foot this time around.

UnHoly_One3928d ago

I respectfully disagree.

They weren't trying to screw anyone over or "rape anyone's wallet".

They were trying to make a different product than every other previous games console. Something that had different benefits and features, and worked differently than what we are accustomed to.

Sadly, everyone got their panties in a bunch and they changed their mind, now we have two consoles that are awfully similar to each other, instead.

It sucks, quite honestly. I wish they hadn't changed. I was excited for some of the features like the game sharing and family plan stuff.

Now... I get none of that because a bunch of people that probably would never have bought an XB1 in the first place had their "rights" trampled on.

Belking3928d ago

In other words you weren't going to buy it anyway...lol

SexyGamerDude3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

No, in other words, I was excited about the reveal of Microsoft's new console. It was a day one buy for me before the revealing. I even defended them when the peices of the always on and DRM surfaced, I didn't believe it at first.

As I stated in my first post, I used to be just like you, a MS fanboy. Bought the 360 day one.

I only decided not to buy the console after they tried to shaft me.

Belking3928d ago

"As I stated in my first post, I used to be just like you, a MS fanboy. Bought the 360 day one."

Actually, I didn't buy xbox360 til 2009. Most people who bought xbox360 will buy xbox1. As for MS policies, it would of hurt them far worse than if they would of not changed the policies. That really doesn't mean people would automatically go and buy ps4 instead. Sony's policies are really no better.

No duh. Of course they had to change their policies, no-one would have bought an xbox.

Hicken3928d ago

Oh, some people would have. Quite a few of the goofballs on this site would still be in line.

It's also apparent that they never learn...The Xbone's DVR "feature" is restricted to GOLD subscribers. Tut Tut M.S

in some ways i wished we could have just let some foolish 360 fans screw themselves by not helping them #dealingwithit.their entire HISTORY proves that most of them aren't smart consumers or know what VALUE is.competition is good.but ripping gamers off is not.and that's what MS has continually done.

not one company made gamers pay for online until microsoft showed up.but since they and 360 gamers set a precedent,we now all have to pay.just like they paid for DLC.why did they pay for it?because it didn't all fit on a dvd.but it would have all fit on a bluray.microsoft told third parties they could make a killing selling the rest of the game.just like paying for the online portion of your game.

360 gamers poor decisions in spending has effected the entire industry.they mostly bought shooters.now shooters have effected most games because modern gamers lack attention spans and need ADD medicine.they could never sit through a game like MGS.but MGS has more 'gameplay' than most games.

microsoft did a 180 because no one 'SMART' would have bought it.digital may be the future.but it's definitely not NOW.how many PSPGOs were sold?how long ago was that?why do you think it's the near future than?because MS said so?huh...they only said it because bluray was sony backed.and they used HD-dvd to slow bluray adoption.and screwed gamers over wasting money on that.

and as for 'LOGIC',sony added everything in the ps3 that would make it last 10 years and told gamers before hand it will be expensive.they even took a $200+ hit for it when bluray players were $1000.

but a system that played ps1,ps2,ps3,dvds,upscaled dvds,bluray,3D bluray movies,mp3s,cds,digital games, could be turned into a linux computer(allowed you to put emulators on the linux side)allowed you to surf the internet and play online for free...was definitely WORTH $500-$600 dollars.don't let these fools fool you...

microsoft screws gamers.at least PC gamers saw how MS wanted to screw gamers and told them no.sony fans know better.nintendo fans couldn't care a less as they bought more wiis out the gate and past the evil empire right up....

yup,we should have let some 360 fans screw themselves.only way for them to learn proper spending.when another company is offering better value, you buy into it.when one wants to screw you,you supposed to hold onto your money.but tv,tv,tv,tv,cod,tv is all they know i guess...

Reply to Apocalypse Shadow #4^^."but a system that played ps1,ps2,ps3,dvds,upscaled dvds,bluray,3D bluray movies,mp3s,cds,digital games, could be turned into a linux computer(allowed you to put emulators on the linux side)allowed you to surf the internet and play online for free...was definitely WORTH $500-$600 dollars.don't let these fools fool you...". As a launch 60G PS3 adopter, the system was an incredible value to me too! Playing it right now! Worth every cent in its entertainment value. MS showed alot to me personally in not only implementing multiple policies that had to be retracted but also by not being honest about every aspect of those policies. I will look very carefully at the Xbone's future if I will spend MY hard earned money on it.

Haha play online? Playing online with a Playstation is horrible. The menus are clumsy, takes forever to get to your messages and send/read one, updates take forever and seem daily, the store is all over the place, no cross game chat or party system, barely anyone talks online. There's a reason majority of cross-platform games are played on XBOX over PS.

HAHAHA your a comedian when your not making stupid comments like this. If you think Sony is for the people and they don't care about a profit, your even more stupid then I thought. Do you have any proof that Microsoft is the reason for DLC? Sony could have kept their online free, no one forced them. But they (Sony) saw a way to make more money so they jumped at the chance. Every company is in the business of making money, thats how they remain in business, its simple economics. I dont see how PS can justify charging for an inferior online service. I have no problem paying $40 for a live subscription thats better then PS in almost every way. Shooters have always been the best selling games, especially online. And where do most games go for online shooters? XBOX. BTW, Metal Gear solid is cross platform.

You keep on thinking Sony is an angel and cares about it's consumers. They care about their consumers as long as they are buying their product. It's amazing how stupid people really are and no nothing about business/commerce. Water is free too, but you'd rather spend $1.50 on Poland Spring bottled water. Driving on highways used to be free until states figured out they could charge a toll. In 2014 every state has to charge online sales tax because states were upset they were missing out on tax money. Microsoft was the first to offer online gaming, and now online gaming is huge. So you should be thanking them cause I bet you play online or at the very least use your system to watch Netflix or search the web.

You go buy your PS4 and be happy, I'll go buy my X1 and be happy. I don't know why people troll and comment on something they aren't buying. I'm not getting a PS4, I don't read anything about it, go to the PS4 section, or care when the next Uncharted is coming out. But you can't help stupidity.

TrollCraftTales3928d ago

They were right to change them, I wish they had kept the family sharing, but other than that is was just stupid, and I am glad they changed it...

Anyway PS4 day one for me, I can't trust MS after what they tried to do, and PS4 seems like a better choice for me...
