The ABCs of RPGs - KRPG

The RPG, or role-playing game, is one of gaming’s foundation genres. A broad category of playing experience, it approaches other genres with open arms, welcoming them in and sharing its addictive gameplay loops liberally. Most modern game experiences pay respect to the mechanics of the RPG in some capacity, while the entire gamification movement has seen life imitate art, bringing RPG staples to the real-world. Some might say this diffusion of the RPG across the industry has diluted its roots, but traditional RPGs still exist with all their flavour and fun intact.

*insert a generic comment on how mobile gaming sucks*

i don't know why this new generation of *gamers* hates almost everything,
one should be happy that even phones now have some good games.
no one is exactly forcing you to throw your consoles out in favor of android.consoles/pc are still mainstream, there is no dispute on that but still if android gets new games,
a gamer should only be happy and not pissed off.

It's more about those 'analysts' who say consoles and handhelds are dying when the most popular games for mobiles are casual cash-in Facebook kind of games.

That is a big problem for mobile gaming. I'd like to think some of these bigger titles are turning it into a more legit form of gaming though.

It's not that we hate mobile.

It's that if it was on handheld or console, it would control that much better.

Imagine playing Madden or COD/BF3 at home on your 50 inch tv, but you have to swipe the screen to make anything happen.

1.)It would get old quick

2.) it BLOCKS THE SCREEN!

There are some definite problems with mobile gaming. I think it still needs to figure out its strengths. The Chrono Trigger port came out surprisingly decent all things considered, but I'd be fooling myself if I tried to claim it controlled better than using a controller.

But other games that have been made specifically for mobile platforms have been phenomenal, like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. That's a game that you can tell was originally developed for handheld devices and I think it controls and is a more immersive experience that way than it is on a PC or Mac.
