"The Forest" May be the Most Hardcore Survival Game Yet | Exclusive Interview

OnlySP: The survival genre has made some big leaps forward within the last two years. More and more developers are beginning to expand on the idea of placing a player in the environment, giving them a few pieces of supplies to get them started and set them on their way. Recent releases like State of Decay and The Last of Us have shown there’s a strong market for survival based games, but The Forest, being developed by indie studio SKS games seems to be taking survival to an all new level.

This game somehow reminds me of the Blair Witch Project. Say whatever you want, this movie traumatized me back then. I can't wait to play that game, it looks creepy as hell.

That and they used the Hills Have Eyes and The Descent as some of their other references. The Descent is still one of my favorite horror movies, I still don't like caves haha.

You have to boil water before you drink it and no QTE's, wow I'm interested. Gameplay looks solid too from the short teaser, I'll keep my eye on this.

I would've preferred a more supernatural, otherworldly basis for the horror in this game, but it's pretty interesting nevertheless.

Somehow I missed this till someone mentioned it yesterday or day before. It looks pretty cool and looking forward to exploring the world and trying to survive different scenarios. This is first time Ive actually seen it though and so far looks good.

Very cool, especially with a swell 1080 rift setup, I would definitely consider picking this up.

The cannibal approach is a welcome deviation from the usual stale supernatural nonsense that seems to permeate almost every other game. Well played.

Games like this can be very ambitious, and if done well, turn out very good. However, I am so over the zombie/infected fad - for me, that ship has sailed. I would rather just like to a real life survival game. Just trying to survive in the world without zombies, is a challenge on its own.
