PSP 'Gran Turismo Mobile' now 'unlikely' in 2008

Digital Spy writes: "The creator of the Gran Turismo car racing series has said the Portable PlayStation edition of Gran Turismo 4 is unlikely to be finished in time for a 2008 release."

"Kazunori Yamauchi, who blames the delay on the PS3 version of the game, told Eurogamer: "We had been developing the PSP version, but the problem was that the PS3 version took much more time and effort than we had first imagined."

Yamauchi also said, "I don't think we'll be able to make the end of this year for the PSP version, but we are working on it."

"The Portable PlayStation edition of Sony's acclaimed racer, which has been in development for over four years, has gone through a number of changes and Yamauchi claims the PS3's online features will link up with the PSP game."

"Once we experienced PS3 online and went through all of that, we came to the conclusion that PSP should not be a standalone product - it should be linked in to the world of Gran Turismo, linked with the PlayStation 3," said Yamauchi.

"The Gran Turismo series is one of the world's biggest-selling video game franchises, with 48 million copies sold since its original PlayStation release. The latest, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for PS3, became the fastest-selling PS3 title during its first week on sale."

Oh wow, so finally it's no more a vaporware? Good news, because racing games on PSP... erm...

MrWonderful5871d ago

maybe you should be able to unlock cars on the psp and send them to the ps3.

Curses.

At this point I think they should just start developing it as a PSP2 launch title. That way it can be that much more impressive and can help push a new handheld for Sony.

Right now, it seems like it'll probably just be the PSP's swan song. Oh well, at least I've got my God of War and my Crisis Core and my entire backlog of SNES games.

People would want that now that PS3 is on the market versus releasing this before PS3 arrived, and mobile gamer's demanding PS3 functionality with GTmobile.

before that happens though, I would really want to see the PSP get full PSN integration, that would be awesome.

Gran Turismo Mobile has "gone through a number of changes". This is awesome news because developers have a better understanding of PSP now as opposed to 2005/2006. If anything can top God of War: Chains of Olympus and FFVII: Crisis Core graphics, it's this.

This game will be awesome. :)

Ugh why don't they just make the damned game. Seriously an almost direct port of GT4 would be perfectly fine. No need to make new car models or anything since it's similar to PS2 capabilities so what the hell is the hold up? Had they just made it and released this holiday PSP would be seeing a big revival.
