Atlus A Prize Asset In Index Corp Bankruptcy Sale

J.J. McGrath - Both commercially and critically, “Shin Megami Tensei IV” appears to be a big hit for the video-game developer Atlus, a brand of the Index Digital Media Inc. unit of the Index Corp. (TYO:4835). And that’s a good thing for everybody concerned because the bankrupt parent company appears poised to begin auctioning its assets as early as this week, Bloomberg News reported, citing a couple of sources familiar with the matter.

Sony would be a much better company to buy them, honestly. :/
We all know PS4 is winning this generation. ALMOST every gamer WILL be getting it. If ATLUS goes to Sony, that means their games will be coming to PS4. It'll be good for the consumers, it'll be good for Sony and most importantly, it'll be good for ATLUS.
Also, Sony has a great reason to buy Atlus. When P4G released, Vita was topping charts in Japan. A few more games from Atlus on Vita, and it just might start selling as much as Sony wants it to. I wasn't getting a Vita until this year. But then when I heard P4G was coming out, I pre-ordered my copy immediately.

Sony are not in a financial position to purchase a company as big as Atlus.

Gimmemorebubblez3940d ago

Did you know Sony spent 2.5 billion USD in the fiscal year ending March 31st 2013. They purchased 10% of Olympus, Gakai, 20% of EMI and distribution rights to EMI's backlog of music. Atlus is probably worth about 50 million USD.

Atlus, big? Square is big, Capcom is big but Atlus would be like small to medium. XD

But anyway, Sony's much more focused on western markets so I don't think they would use any of their money to purchase anything Japanese. They would acquire Quantic Dreams first than the SMT developers even if that gave them an advantage in Japan and niche markets in the west.

Acquiring Atlus will be great for them in Japan. Atlus has a few franchises persona and shin megami tensei that will help boost Vita sales in Japan.

Qrphe3939d ago

Atlus isn't as big as you think and could be purchased by Sony. Regardless, I do not want Atlus going console-exclusive.

AzureskyZ3939d ago

Atlus isnt that big dude--- and sony is a very big company and have the assets to purchase atlus-- will they do it is another story.

"We all know PS4 is winning this generation. ALMOST every gamer WILL be getting it."

Another person from the future. The Internet seems to be littered with these people as of late.

showtimefolks3939d ago

i think sony and atlus together is better but watch atlus will go to a 3rd party publisher, just like none of the console makers picked any IP's from THQ sale i doubt they buy atlus now either

imagine darksiders IP under sony santa monica

but just like that never happen this will also not happen

kreate3939d ago (Edited 3939d ago )

Agreed. Namco or one of those 3rd party publisher guys would pick it up.

Firan3939d ago (Edited 3939d ago )

You do know that Atlus makes small budget niche games right? They have done so for a very long time and they don't seem to care about selling millions. So I don't think they would make many games for PS4. You'd know that if you played other Atlus games than Persona.

Well anyways I still hope there's a chance they stay 3rd party. That way I get more Etrian Odyssey and SMT for 3DS and Persona 5 for PS3, PS4 or maybe even Vita. Persona 5 for Vita would definitely be my choice since I love handhelds. Vita could most likely handle Catherine's engine as well and we all want to see P5 with that engine.

"ALMOST every gamer WILL be getting it. "

Shouldn't your username be CaptainFanboy?

If PS4 wasn't marketed to 17 year old boys I might consider getting one. If you don't like guns and blood and racing the console is lost on you.

Elem1873938d ago

Exactly why I'm passing on the PS4... For $300 I rather upgrade my PC, and then pick up a Wii U in December than buy a PS4.

Sony doesn't want my money, they seem to be going aggressively after the dudebro gamer to compete with Microsoft... leaving RPG fans to be scooped up by Nintendo.

DonFreezer3939d ago

Nintendo should buy them because sony fanboys will cry to their deaths and it would be funny as hell.Seriously now Sony should not buy them. They are to greedy for a developer like that. It's simple Nintendo buys them and automatically the Wii U turns into a JRPG powerhouse. Now about Sony winning this generation all I have to say is some of you are that delusional that you have the ability to see the feature.

Elem1873938d ago

Sony couldn't take the risk right now.. They had to sell buildings and lay off 10,000 employees just to remain profitable.. in order to buy Atlus they would have to be willing to pay off all of Atlus' debt, which a chunk of that debt is owned by Nintendo.

Final price tag for Sony would be over 150 million USD.... Sony needs that cash on hand incase the PS4 sells like the ps3 did when it launched (Not saying its going to flop, but after the disaster of the PS3, there is no way Sony can take that risk, they must have cash on hand for this launch)

It makes perfect sense for Nintendo to buy Atlus. Nintendo and Atlus have a great relationship, heck there have been Atlus games on Nintendo systems since the NES era! I'm currently playing SMT4 and it's amazing. Do it Nintendo do it!

Gimmemorebubblez3940d ago

I would like Sony/Nintendo acquire Atlus.

Someone tweet @yosp(Yoshida) or fax Iwata/s

clrlite3939d ago

I wouldn't mind if Sony or Nintendo bought them. Some other companies on the other hand....

AzureskyZ3939d ago

I would say atlus under nintendo isnt a bad thing-- i just want the persona team and persona games to be under sony

-Mika-3940d ago

I would be happy with Sony or Tecmo-Koei buying them.

Elem1873938d ago

Most Japanese publishers are hurting.. Square, Tecmo, Sega, Konami, Sony.. The only 2 companies that are doing ok is Namco and Nintendo... Namco is doing ok, and Nintendo is sitting on a mountain of cash... Since Nintendo already owns Atlus debt, it would be the most prudent choice for both Index (Parent company of Atlus) and Nintendo.

rextraordinaire3939d ago

Honestly, the worst that could happen for Atlus is to be sold to a hardware manufacturer.

Atlus is one of the shining examples of multi-platform developer/publisher done right. They've always been able to recognize any system's possibilities and to develop accordingly. To jail them into only one system would be a really sad day for gamers. Everyone deserves a bit of the Atlus genius in their library.

My best bet (hope) is for Atlus to go solo, even if that means longer wait time between games.

Blank3939d ago

Well said. I am all for this!

RandomGamer3939d ago

Eh imagine Microsoft come outta nowhere and buy Atlus, I think I would wanna kill myself.

Blank3939d ago

I would retire gaming most likely and go into depression. Time would heal me as i turn into a monk. And in the end at my deathbed play one last time...

DonFreezer3939d ago

You are a senseless, delusional and depressive ps fanboys and you should please shut your freaking mouth. If Microsoft buys them they would just release the same games on another system. If you like Atlus games like we do you would get the system their games went to and not cry like a little girl.

RandomGamer3938d ago

Yes I am a PS fanboy I have a had two PS3s to go along with my Wii and my two Xbox 360s wanna go last gen I still have my Xbox , Fact is Microsoft is just my least favorite of the 3 major players and I would be extremely disappointed if Microsoft made Atlus games Xbox exclusive.

I would go so far to say I would be disappointed if Nintendo or Sony bought it, Atlus works so well because their games can appear on so many platforms.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

What a word vomit, rambling, turd of an article that simply states the obvious. Classic exputer.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably
