Killer Instinct and the Evo’13 fiasco- a precedent for Xbox One Hatred?

In another blow to Microsoft and it’s upcoming Xbox One console, a video has surfaced showing the Xbox One exclusive, Killer Instinct receiving a very cold reception from attendees at the EVO 2013 tournament, as gamers started booing when a spokesman for Double Helix mentioned the game and it’s exclusivity on the Xbox One console. This has, quite naturally, led many people to believe that this is a slight on either the quality of the game itself or the much-maligned Xbox One console.

To be fair, the booing at EVO is a bit irrational, and that's exactly the point. When the public hate stops being rational, that's when it gets out of control.

Microsoft has an inferno on their hands but instead of putting out the fire they're restructuring the fire-fighting crew while talking about how the fire was caused because they didn't deliver the right kind of water.

Any way you look at it the boos came right after they announced the games exclusivity to the Xbox 1.

This is how both fanboy sides need to view this: for georgenoob, they were not PlayStation fanboys.

For Xbox fanboys; they were not booing killer instinct.

For PlayStation fanboys; they were not booing Microsoft.

What they were booing was the prolonged, overdrawn out, and utterly dumb pr stunt ever pulled at an event before the main event.

That is what they were booing. It was simply Microsoft's idea to push this game at evo like it was some god like idol from an Indiana Jones movie.

In other words they were just plain annoying and didn't care about the exclusivity or the stupid fight stick. It is common knowledge that almost any fighting game that ever gets released usually has a fight stick made with some special art for them to stare at for five minutes. Most of the gamers at this gathering own all the consoles anyway.

So fanboys can ya put this one under miscellaneous and move on? You can't beat this dead horse any more.

No you couldn't see the crowd but regardless KI looks great, so some folks booed, preorders for X1 suggest its a select vocal group because if they get more stock and more importantly have all those preorders translate to sellouts on launch day and beyond then all this X1 is doomed talk is going to be irrevelant. Considering how folks are already back tracking that X1 was going to flop out the gates at its current price, I'm sure judging by all the positive fan response KI will do just fine too.

I mean its selective listening cause there so much more other positive sentiment, even at this same event like at the end of the Glacius trailer there is loud cheering for the ax= coming reveal of Chief Thunder, but yeah who cares some booed 1 time for whatever reason and thats all some want to focus on.

Except developers have stated how easy it is to develop on the PS4, and the reason Sony went with unified memory and no ES/EDRAM was at developers request.

Basically what this means is PS4 will likely be the lead platform this gen. So it remains to be seen who will be laughing all the way to the bank, but the wind seems to be blowing in Sonys direction at the moment.

Yeh like last Gen when the PS3 was CLearly a Beast over the X360 but what happened?

MS tossed around some cash and Devs just programmed for the X360 and ported all around.

Even after 3rd party Devs figured out the PS3 they still just programmed for the X360 and ported around which is why most multiplats look the same on the PS3/X360 even though the PS3 has more power.

Sure Devs Love the PS4 but too bad the PUBLISHERS are the ones in charge and hand out the pay checks so expect the XB1 to be the main and the PS4/PC to get ports.

Just look at E3 XB1/PC got ALL the games while PS4 is missing out on Titanfall and a few others right out the gate.

I havent played killer instinct, but this is the second time ive seen footage that has been overshadowed. first the e3 showing of man vs woman with the guy telling the girl to "let it happen".... as he destroys her in the game...now this booing..not really of the game but of the console its exclusive to.
I dont think its fair to the game but its a sign of the times. gamers are more vocal...and NO I DONT WANT TO HEAR THE TRENDING BS EXCUSE "BECAUSE ITS NOT SONY"( when and where this bs started is beyond me)....sony has zero to do with this...its MS fault for obvious reasons...to say that EVO is full of sony fans would be immature because mostly xbox is being used there.
my point is this KI is a killer game, being developed by a not so killer team, on a system thats on the bad side of most gamers, and is going to be a microtransaction laden game....I personally hate "free" games that you have to pay to really enjoy. especially a fighting game.....I mean jago is the only free character so be ready for a jago dominated game.....my other gripe is honestly it looks like a 360 game....really not impressed with the visuals honestly....but it didnt deserve to be booed...just bad timing.

EVO is PS3 only due to tradition and for the sake of uniformity because players say that PS3 is slower and Xbox faster and that changing consoles mid-through a tournament messes up their execution. You really have no idea how much the PS3 gets trashed in a daily basis in the FGC and how they in many instances blame their loses on the "#PS3lag".

The truth is that 99% of the FGC are Xbox fanboys, most of the tournaments are on Xbox, they even request to be always on Xbox, and they are always trashing the PS3 because of the "#PS3lag". But the XB1 with the #DRMPOLICIES, focus on TV features etc. they all hate it, but they all hate it because the Xbox is/was their favorite console.

I always figured if you would enter one of these fighting tournaments, or considered yourself a contender why wouldn't you own a fightstick? Hell I bought two madcatz fight sticks for my X360 ( Marvel vs Capcom & SFIV tournament edition )

Although, I don't play fighting games as often. I bought fight sticks for nostalgic purposes. Reminded me of my childhood at the arcades. Not saying everyone should buy a fightstick, I just figured it would be essential to competing at the competition level? Hopefully, they allow for the fightsticks to be tweaked to work on XB1 consoles, otherwise I'll have to invest in more for the next gen consoles.

Your Wrong , killer instinct looks incredible on Xbox One , the graphics looks sharp and the gameplay is 100% killer instinct , I played the original KI at arcade , as you can see I am KI fan , and most of KI fans agree with me , We are so lucky that Double Helix resurrected the franchise . I won't expect a good review for KI from COD or SF fans .

In the end , killer Instinct on Xbox one looks amizing and Graphically you can't compare it to any fighting game on the market . It's Next Generation Fighting Game .

im a ki fan myself......and even the free tekken revolution looks better than ki EASILY. .....man really if your a fan dont be a blind fan....im sure it will play ok....hopefully but it dosent look like a next gen game....at all. yeah it look better than the n64 version...great but this isnt the way to ring in a beloved franchise on a new console.

I never hated PS3 nor Xbox 360, only hated the failure rate of 360 and the lack of games on PS3 that doesn't mean the consoles were bad, it was the way that were handled just like how the PS4 is doing very well and how the X1 was handled very bad.

Whether Microsoft chooses to acknowledge it or not, they threatend the very existence of the Fighting Game Community(FGC). If their DRM policies went through as planned, it would have been a nightmare for any tournament organizer who chose to use the X1. The FGC has some of the most passionate gamers out there and they speak their minds.

Personally I think the reason they were booed was simply put that they have no reason to be excited. Yeah you revealed a new character cool, but there is a long time match which will entertain us for hours, get off the stage and let us watch it!

Booing was for XB1 and lesser for them waiting for Marvel.

It was only a month ago MS wanted to dominate us and tell us what we can and can't do with our own games. Trust cannot be built up again over night.

XB1 fans need to thank Sony for sticking to their guns over DRM else we would all have lost our rights in one foul swoop.

We also need to thank 360 fans who are true gamers and decided to pre-order a gaming console over a TV gimmick box. It was after all those pre-order numbers that prompted MS to do a 180.
