A history of Sony Santa Monica – Sony’s big hit making & indie incubating studio

OPM: Sony Santa Monica is one of PlayStation’s best and most ambitious studios, stretching from Triple-A hits to indie wonders. Crucially its incubation program has seen it working as a guiding force helping numerous smaller studios like Ready At Dawn, Giant Sparrow and thatgamecomany. We look back at its history and it’s most significant releases and collaborations.

those are all great but i would add sucker punch, they sure made a great job with infamous series, specially with infamous second son

abzdine3947d ago

i really hope Santa Monica makes a new Fat Princess! That game was insane and too many people are still playing it today!

Well it's a well established fact that Sony has the BEST first party developers in the industry. I can't wait to see what they bring to the PS4. The best thing is that they won't be limited to the curse of the "lowest common denominator". They will be able to take the full advantage of the PS4's power and not have to cater to the inferiority of the xbone's hardware.

This is Ready at Dawn's game. Santa Monica shares resources and help them get the game coming along. Just like how Superbot made Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale but Santa Monica helped them.

God of War 3 still remains the best video game i have played this generation. Cant freaking wait to see what Ready at Dawn with the help of Santa Monica is bringing to The Order 1886, and i hope one of those 12 new IPs coming soon is stig's new project.

Really enjoyed God of War 3 and looking forward to what else they can do.

God of War III was the worst one out of the main 3 IMO. Kratos was just an unreasonable brute instead of badass, the ending was lame (the suicide then body disappearing), his relationship with Pandora was forced/underdeveloped, the overall formula was getting old, etc.

I like the second one best, and I think there's plenty of games this gen that are better. TLOU, Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, Red Dead, Portal 2, and others are leagues above it.

i respect your opinion, i guess to each their own, im not even remotely interested in playing The Last of Us ( i must be the only playstation hardcore fan not interested in the game lol) Uncharted 2 is my 4th favorite game this generation, Metal Gear Solid 4 is my second, Folklore is my third and Motorstorm Pacific Rift is my fifth. as i said before its all matter of opinions, you have yours i have mine.

@remanutd55

If you like Uncharted 2 and you like Metal Gear Solid 4 why aren't you interested in The Last of Us? Its basically Uncharted with more stealthy combat (MGS), mixed into a survival horror theme.

I have high hopes for The Order 1866

God of War: How Atreus Could Become Just As Cool As Kratos

Might be in a minority here but I didn't enjoy any of the sections playing as Atreus or having companions at all. If I had my way it'd be Kratos on his lonesome from start to finish. Straightforward action gameplay without the endless boring chatter.
