Videogamer writes: "Why do PS3 owners have to wait? And what's in store for PC owners?
Call of Duty 4 is the most popular console multiplayer game in the world right now. And it's about to get even better when developer Infinity Ward unleashes four new multiplayer maps in April (Xbox LIVE first, PSN to follow). Priced at 800 MS Points, the four new maps, Broadcast, Creek, Chinatown and Killhouse, promise to give CoD4 fans even more to shout about. To celebrate we grilled Infinity Ward's Jon Shiring on the new content, why PS3 owners have to wait longer than Xbox 360 owners and what the future holds for CoD. You'll be interested in the results."
VideoGamer.com: Let's begin by you telling us who you are and what you do at Infinity Ward.
Jon Shiring: My name is Jon Shiring, and I'm one of the programmers at Infinity Ward.
VideoGamer.com: What was your role on the new maps?
JS: I worked mostly on the back-end, making sure matchmaking works fine with the new maps and making sure we detect the content, load it and the game changes.
MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.
MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.
That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.
I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
Call Of Duty is back with its yearly instalment, but is Modern Warfare 3 breaking new ground, or just a lazy cash grab? The answer may not surprise you in today's review from JDR.
The original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 games have been drawing players back in
I really hope we get other activision games on GP soon. My dream would be Scarface but I know the license probably expired
None of those games had dedicated servers on console in the first place? Were always player hosted. Did something change?
I wouldn't call that a grilling. He was pretty easy on him if you ask me.
How about they fix all the bugs and glitches with the online mode before blowing sunshine up his own arse about this game!
OR how about they admit that this download came directly from their archives and simply added a few things to make the maps appear as completely new (except for creek) and therefore give it to us for free? After paying $65 for this game with tax, I do not feel that I shoudl pay $10-15 for additional maps, especially now that I am shafted because I own a ps3 and now have to wait three weeks after the xbox release which by the way, has been delayed. WOW! IW what a great way to show your appreciation to the fans of CoD4 that made the game what it is. IW can suck a fat one...
