Why Xbox Fans Are Called “Gropers” in Japan

The Xbox consoles are not popular in Japan. That doesn't mean those game machines lack hardcore fans. They certainly exist in the region. And online in Japan, there's a disparaging nickname for them: "gropers".

GameCents3984d ago

Roaches vs Groper. Hehehe. I'd rather be called a groper.

Snookies123984d ago (Edited 3984d ago )

I wouldn't want to be in the roaches group... Gropers at least get to grope. D:

Roaches just get squashed... I'm not sure I like either name though to be honest.

No_Limit3984d ago (Edited 3984d ago )

But there are so many of them, the more you squash, the more it duplicate...cough..N..G...coug h .

shut ya groping mouth you snooki groper!

nukeitall3984d ago

Am I the only one that finds this story sort of offensive. You know it goes on, but it is so wrong on so many levels.

Maybe is is just chan, but even among fangirl hatred, I never really hear that sort of name calling. Do you?

Or maybe I just forgot all about it.

Gazondaily3984d ago

Yeah but roaches can survive radioation and shiz!

ABizzel13984d ago

At least if you're a roach you get to survive the nuclear apocalypse.

SilentNegotiator3984d ago

I would rather be called:
"That guy that broke my nose for calling him a ___"*

"(Nintendo fans have an unpleasant nickname of their own, and Kotaku will be covering that in the future.)"

Oh yeah, Kotaku, this totally needs to be stretched out to several articles.
/s

*Not really. I'm not a violent person.

Xbox fans= Gropers
PS fans = cockroach

zeal0us3984d ago

Someone on Kotaku said
"Ninshin : Nintendo fan boys. Shortened form of Nintendo Shinja (means believer ). A.k.a Ninton / Buta ( means pig ) / Pork."

TekoIie3984d ago

I love how Nintendo's fans "Nickname" goes all religious compared to the other two XD

I got this from a user at Vgchartz.

Nintendo = ninshin (pregnant)- 妊 nin from pregnant and 任 nin from Nintendo sound the same, further reinforced with the second nickname buta (pig) due to an association of fat with pregnancy. Sometimes its combined.

What is this Destiny?

Inverno4h ago

I sure hope they include paid dlc on top of all the mtx currency types. Maybe if we're really lucky the game will shut down a year from now and i can feel extremely blessed to have enjoyed blowing money on cosmetics! I'm tingly just thinking about it!
I'll be trying it out again but they won't see a dime from me lol

Well games that don't have heinous grinding and progression systems get dropped by their player base because "there's no reason to play." So I guess they are just giving people what they asked for.

Lesson Learned review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "The tutorial for this tower defence game takes less than two minutes to complete, duly informing how to place defences and gather resources by ordering your “minions” to chop trees and smash stones. Two minutes were all that’s needed – the controls are surprisingly intuitive, using only a few buttons on the joypad. Unfortunately, this tutorial is also a good indicator of what’s to come – this is a simplistic take on the genre, being considerably casual. You won’t be learning many lessons here when it comes to keeping your base protected."
