13 Gaming Franchises Influenced By Hip-Hop

The Koalition: ''If you have been a frequent visitor to TheKoalition.com then you will know by now that we cover both video games and Hip-Hop music. Therefore, some of the team were rather amused when we found out earlier this month that Kanye West had both inspired and took centre stage of a JRPG.

Therefore, myself and our Editor-in-Chief Richard Bailey Jr. have both compiled a list of the top 13 video game franchises which have been influenced by Hip-Hop music.''

The inclusion on Young Jeezy's 'I Luv It' in Saint's Row 2 perfectly captures the essence of the game.

MisfitsInc3954d ago

Def Jam: Vendetta/FFNY were both great games, but then they ruined the series with Icon. Rapstar was a terrible game that tried to ride the Guitar Hero/Rockband wave and failed miserably.

Unztayble3954d ago

dumbest list I've ever come across. Everything on there is based on and influenced by much more than just hip hop.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil13d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai12d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing6912d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle12d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal12d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa12d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal12d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

Saints Row - Where it All Began

Saints Row made its debut nearly 20 years ago, and while the game has aged its still worth playing on modern consoles.

banger8849d ago

Back when games had balls. Now they still have balls, but also lipstick and a dress.

kevco3349d ago

Or an angry purple streak in their hair to demonstrate they're a rebel.

And they claimed this place was one of the outhouses for Gamers™ and gamerGate Incels. Pfft! But look at bangerBro99's amazing display of Homo-eroticism. How far we've come.

So proud of you, bud. Now you go grab them balls and have all the fun. 👍

Outstanding!

PhillyDonJawn49d ago

They should remaster the first 2.

1nsomniac48d ago

I think the first one was the best in the series by a long, long way!

Demetrius48d ago

🥲🥲 someone needs to buy this ip and watch dogs, give those franchises a proper treatment sheesh

TheColbertinator48d ago

First 3 games were great. Then 4, Gat out of Hell and the Reboot were flimsy in comparison. Aliens, demons and a weak reboot in terms of intensity made the games forgettable.

Profchaos48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

But even 3 ventured into rediculas territory with zombies and stag. Zombies in 3 to me was just a hey you know what's popular zombies let's do that

TheColbertinator48d ago

The endgame of 3 did get stupid but the game held together at the end. 4 was just annoying all the way through.
