Killer Instinct Revealed as Mystery Game at SGC

During SGC's Iron Man event Killer Instinct was revealed as their mystery game. Watch the crowd react and then watch Jago hit Saberwulf with a huge ultra combo.

Neoninja3992d ago

I saw this on twitch, crazy how everyone went wild. I'm hoping to go to more gaming conventions next year.

dedicatedtogamers3992d ago

I hope it's just an early build, because this game looks incredibly rudimentary.

loulou3992d ago

yet i am sure you would love this if it was a sony game..

dedicatedtogamers3992d ago

No, not at all. I'm actually pretty picky when it comes to fighting games, and I've been playing them since SF2. BlazBlue? Pass. Mortal Kombat? Pass. DoA? Pass. Tekken? Pass.

MiloGarret3992d ago

So you basically like street fighter.

dedicatedtogamers3992d ago

@ MiloGarret

I'm competent at SF, but it's not my favorite. I would choose to play GG, KoF, Virtua Fighter, MvC, Samurai Shodown, or Soul Caliber before playing SF.

DARK WITNESS3992d ago

To be honest I was a big KI fan back in the day and it was my favorite of all the fighting games back then. It could have instantly sold the xbone to me, but when I saw it, it reminded me more of SF then the old KI I remember.

it was one of the most underwhelming things MS showed and I think it should have been given a much bigger intro at e3.

It felt more like.. ok lets demo some cool video recording stuff.... oh and by the way we are demoing this on KI3.

It should have been one of the big reveals with it's own big showing right at the begining or end.

anyway I guess they thought it was not as important as all the shooters. Shame.

HammadTheBeast3992d ago

I probably would, Double Helix haven't exactly won any GOTY's. Their last game was the green lantern movie game. Yeah.

Looks incredibly enjoyable to me and I love my beat em ups.

[Edit] Very button-mashy though.

Belking3992d ago

You must be blind. That was 60fps of awesomeness.

kayoss3992d ago

is it me or does that look like Ryu fighting blanka?

People are remembering Killer Instinct a lot more fondly than they should. It was fun, but come on. It's still just another fighting game.

Neoninja3992d ago

I guess since it's been what.....15 16 years? People are excited and it looks super fun, but I also see where you're coming from.

WeAreLegion3992d ago

Thanks for the nice reply. I just feel like everyone is going to be pretty disappointed when it comes out. The is Double Helix, for one. They don't exactly exude quality. :/

Sitdown3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

Interestingly enough....it was probably my least favorite fighting game back in the day, and wonder its shelf life beyond nostalgia. Doesn't mean I won't try it though. Does the screen still pan out the further the players are away from each other....... Always appreciated that.

DARK WITNESS3992d ago

it was by far my favorite game back then. oh the joy. I was in west Africa when it came out in the arcade.

I was good at most of the fighting games, I would say I could hold my corner but when KI game out, that was when I gained a sort of legendary status in the arcade.

Everyone started off with the girl(can't remember her name now) and doing her spinning kick combo.

I didn't touch it at first, but on a quite day when all the pros were not around I played and randomly picked Fulgore just because he looked the coolest in my book..... Boy, he turned about to be one of the most overpowered and perfect fighters I could have asked for.

Between being able to Dragon punch, Dash, fire high and low multiple fireballs and being able to Teleport.. I totally destroyed Everyone !!

Even when others clocked on and started using him, they still could not beat me with him.

I could spend all day at the arcade with just one or two coins and beat people all day with him.

I loved the look and feel of the artstyle and the kind of semi-3d look. I really don't like the style of this new one. That alone has put me off and the fact it just reminds me a lot more of SF then the old KI I remember.

I know it's early, we still have not seen too much but I was hoping to at least see the classic 3d arena style combat. not seen any of that yet.

hazardman3992d ago

Just another fighting game that gamers have been waiting years to play. I honestly cant believe that we are gonna be playing KI after all the BS MS went thru just to bring it to us! I cant wait..C-C-C ombo breaker!!!

WeAreLegion3992d ago

I know you've been waiting years. That's the problem. You remember it fondly. Go play it right now. It's a fun game, but it's not something you'd want to lay $60 down on. If we're LUCKY, they'll give us the same game with better graphics. In reality, it will probably be much worse than that.

Absolutely best case scenario: It's a solid fighting game and that's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing ground-breaking. Just another fighting game with a name on it you all happen to like.

No_Limit3992d ago Show
RavageX3991d ago

Going to have to disagree with you on that one.

Name another fighter that was like KI back then.

HOWEVER....

Bring it forward to modern times and it pretty much would be just another fighter. The characters might make it interesting but in the videos I've seen do nothing for me. Seems kinda...bland.

Maybe that is just because I'm fond of the old one, I can still play the old one and have fun...but this one...even the "ULTRAAA!!!!" doesn't have the same energy behind it.

Blastoise3992d ago

Lost interest when I found out you have to pay for all the characters, it's a shame too, because it was a cool announcement

Neoninja3992d ago

That's semi true.
The demo is going to be the full game with only one character available(Jago)and you have the option to buy individual characters if you want.
Then there's an option to buy the full game with all characters if you don't want to purchase them individually, so pretty much like how we get fighting games now.

tuglu_pati3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

@Blastoise

Oh, but you are so wrong.

http://shoryuken.com/2013/0...

ThatCanadianGuy5143992d ago

But that link just proves what he said.
You get Jago free, then have to buy all the other characters want.

Seems greedy.

tuglu_pati3992d ago

@DayZ

Here I will put it here for you in case you missed it.

"Killer Instinct will be offered as a complete digital title..."

creatchee3992d ago

@DayZ

"Seems greedy."

Should they just give the entire game away for free? That's a helluva business model.

cervantes993992d ago

The game will be $60 for all characters just like the price of any new game.

Don't want all the characters - only buy what you want. How can that be a bad thing?

despair3992d ago

That was an epic combo though.

Hellsvacancy3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

It looked more fun to watch than it would to play, ive never really been into fighting game, played the hell out of Rise Of The Robots on my oldskool Mega Drive when I was a kid

The gamers enjoyed it, thats what made this video very enjoyable

Foxgod3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

Omg, you mentioned one of the worst, if not, the worst fighting game ever :)
Rise of the robots was soo much ass, i never understood why they ported the arcade version.

That game came out when games like Super street fighter II, Mortal kombat II and tutles tournament fighters where on their height.

Rise of the robots ranked among tuff enough and pit fighters as the worst of the worst, its ironical you dont like fighting games, and yet you played the crap out of one of the worst fighting games ever :)

MoveTheGlow3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

It was one of the first 3D-rendered-on-2D games out there, and it was like taking DKC's tech and using it with friggin' robots. It looked very nice on the PC, with the characters taking up a good proportion of the screen, and the designs were passable Reboot-esque material.

How did it play? Like crap, sure, but it was a spectacle for its time. On the PC, there was hardly any music (or was it just my Sound Blaster?), giving it a really dark, atmospheric feel. It had a drone a la System Shock 2. So, it was bad, but as a kid? I just wasn't good enough.

(Well, okay, I wasn't good enough for about a day. Then I realized it was a pretty crappy fighter. But ROBOTS, come on! I still played One Must Fall for the same reason!)

Hey, easy on Tuff Enuff! K's theme was awesome.

Hellsvacancy3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

Come on I was only 11 when I asked my Dad to buy it for me, some pictures I saw in a magazine made it look awesome, it was very clunky, but it had been bought for me, I made the most of it

Its probably the reason im not into fighters, I find them too repetitive

Barlos182d ago

I'll have to get this! Been a big fan of KI since the very first one.

Petebloodyonion182d ago (Edited 182d ago )

I love KI (still play the old arcade version) but feel like the Xbox version is like a big intimidating chessboard with no easy way to instruct you to play chess.
The game is so deep in terms of little things to do that it makes Smash Bros melee look like a casual experience.
Honestly, doing a combo Breaker is punish/reward by itself but hey you can add a counterbreaker.
Here's what you also need to know
Breaking Shadow-linker
Instincts
Shadow counter
Auto double,
linker, manual
ender
etc,

There isn't going to be any chance of this being played at tournaments unless it appears on all platforms like all fighting games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH186d ago

SF5 didn’t appear on all consoles and was still played at Tournaments. I’ve seen KI tournaments recently so I don’t think your opinion is accurate.

Killer Instinct: Worth Another Look at 10 Years Old

A free-to-play fighting game? This was unheard of at the time, but Killer Instinct has proven it's not only doable, but enjoyable!
