Planetside 2 won’t have cross-platform play, PS4 version will feel like a “native” console game

Planetside 2’s art director Tramell Isaac has confirmed that the MMOFPS won’t let PS4 users play with PC players. Isaac also said that the PS4 version of the game won’t be pay-to-win and that it will feel like an actual console shooter. Additionally, PlayStation Vita and motion controls may be supported.

yes it's free to play and won't require a ps+ membership to play either so its genuinely F2P unlike what some other people claim is F2P *cough* WOT *cough*

Matt Higby said that it was more of a logistic reason because they have to get the updates through the approval process and so the updates would be out of sync between PC and PS4 but they will essentially be the same game and that having PS4 and PC gamer's playing together is technically possible

Logisitcs and pitting people with controllers against those with keyboards and mice wouldn't be the fairest!

It doesn't really matter though as I'm sure it will be great on the PS4. I've put 250 hours+ into the PC version and it demolishes the likes of Battlefied.

I wouldn't mind console players joining in as the more the merrier and so on, but wouldn't favour auto aiming as it would cause much rage amongst PC users about legalising aimbots and so on.

Could make it support keyboard and mouse on the PS4 so if you are sick of getting beaten with a controller you could switch. I'ld say most console users have a KB & M lying about somewhere afterall!

Not sure how much it'll be like Titanfall, expect that to have a COD feel to the gameplay, Planetside certainly doesn't, at least in its PC form. But if your just after a MASSIVE sci-fi shooter it will fit the bill.

I have been playing PS2 since beta, nothing in it is remotely comparable to titanfall. When your in a MAX you can not get out, only switch to another class. If you could get out, then that would be comparable to Titianfall. The MAX class, the closest thing to a mech is not even that big, even with armour upgrades.

Titanfall will shift to PS4 after its initial release in 2014 for PC and XB1. There is no amount of money in the world to stop EA from shifting that to multiplatform development. Since Respawn is a new fairly small studio. I understand they might need to make a profit to expand. Like Witcher and Metro series.

Planetside 2 looks more like a combo of MAG, Battlefield, and Warhawk to me.

Titanfall does look cool though. I think it will go multi-plat eventually, if not the original then the sequel.

Depends where you fight. If you go into the Biolabs or bases where infantry are streaming from Sunderers in all directions it can feel like that. I'm more into staying back a bit as support in a tank or flanking the zerg and shooting the dumb bastards from behind as they look about not knowing where the fire's coming from :)

If they allow you to move your character then I would assume you get all that but I haven't heard if you have to have a separate account for the PS4

I need you to make this game look like it does on Ultra Settings, or better, because it can look ugly on anything less, I don't care if you have to use Gaikai stream or reduce player count to 1000 instead of 2000. Hopefully using one framework will allow it.

Second some new content upon launch of the PS4 version would be greatly appreciated, not exactly necessary because it's a MMO but would be: Vehicles, Weapons, whatever.

This is my most anticipate MP game along with Titanfall, please make it up to par.

And please make the flying controls simple.

I hope they manage to incorporate the bloom effects seen in the PC version. Without the game looks a bit bland.

The question is how are they going to make this game work on the PS4 since it takes a PC with specs higher the PS4 to play on low settings @ 30fps plus the engine is a DX9 last gen engine even though they advertise it as a brand new engine.
To bad the PS4 and PC players won't be able to play together. Now I won't be able to farm cert.

Quite easily really, with set hardware (not multiple configurations like on PC) it is far easier to optimize coding.

For example lets look at Crysis 3's min requirements

- Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
- DirectX 11 graphics card with 1Gb Video RAM
- Dual core CPU
- 2GB Memory (3GB on Vista)

Yet 7 year old consoles with specs nowhere near that still managed to put out a decent version :)

A pc of ps3 comparable specs would never run it :)

My PC does fine on Planetside 2 and its not much more than a PS4's specs. My PC has less threads.

Optimizing for each of the 8 treads will give it a bigger boast than what most people think. The GPU will be able to assist as well on top of that with GPU compute power.

Aint that the truth, I've a GTX 680 with i5 oc processor and I still only get 25-30 fps on Ultra. Still it's yet to be seen how powerful the PS4 new APU actually is.

A gamer is a gamer, no matter what platform you're on. I was hoping for cross-play because it would have really filled up the map. And that would bring more epic mass-scale battles.
Besides, you wouldn't know if the another player was on PC or PS4. So why the hate? PC elitism, I'm guessing.

Good, I will stay loyal to Playstation, because in the current or should I write last Generation I've bought a Nintendo Wii, a Ps3, a Xbox 360 and a PC. This is a mistake that I won't make again this time around. I will buy one console and stick with it till next Generation in maybe 8 years or so...

I hope it turns out better than it did on PC. It would be a cool game, If.... Well, if the mechanics were solid, the system was WAY more optimized, if it were more polished... and probably if it weren't free to play.
