I remember last year, Square Enix showcased Agni's Philosophy (running on a monster PC with 32gigs of RAM) and they were fiddling with hair, clothes and feathers. It was initially a CGI FMV, then they thought they could achieve those graphics in real-time. I was almost certain that we will enjoy such graphics on FFversus13 since it was thought to be PS4 exclusive. Today we found out that the game is no longer exclusive and the ingame parts looked just slightly upgraded from the PS3 version (praise the multiplatformism mind).

I have the feeling Quantic Dream mimiced that Agni's Philosophy tech demo with hair the clothing design and the feathers on it with everything highly detailed moving and casting shadows, to say: "Hey we can do EVEN better and INGAME FOR REAL and we do not BLUFF. Our tech demo is more realistic, very funny and everyone knows that our games look way better than our tech demos!"

A big slap on the face of SquareEnix for not fulfilling their promises (being exclusive to PS platform and maintaining those graphics ingame) and preferring the lucrative route.

majiebeast3985d ago (Edited 3985d ago )

Lets be honest Square Enix is probably the most incompetent dev/publisher out there.

That demo took them a year for 3 minutes of footage its the saddest thing ever. I doubt that 12 minute demo QD showed is even close to that. Look at Infamous all ingame the facial animation is insane.

PLASTICA-MAN3985d ago (Edited 3985d ago )

To the doubters, everything was reamtime running in 1080p: http://abload.de/img/gdeszu...

Edit: at below: Individual hairs casting shadows and not buggy coupled with penetrating sub-surface scattering lights is **** compared to jaggy pixelated hairs (more looking like a brushed mesh than actual hairs) that clips into Lara's back and eats the entire resources of your machine (because it was made by a graphic card maker and not skillful agme developers striving to reach perfection): http://images.gamersyde.com...

OK!

OrangePowerz3985d ago

The hair is crap in that demo to be fair. Compared to things like TressFX in Tomb Raider (can be buggy sometimes) it`s meh.

The rest of the demo is brilliant so don`t get me wrong I`m not complaining :D

Scholla3985d ago

Tru story! hee-larry-us indeed.

PLASTICA-MAN3984d ago (Edited 3984d ago )

The best of this article confirming that the demo or their upcoming games are 1080p:

http://blog.us.playstation....

"PlayStation 4: Let the Hardware Shine

After a particularly trying shoot (it’s hard work making people laugh…), the implementation period began and it was time to start playing with version 1.0 of our new PS4 engine.
Then came the first surprise: the graphic quality obtained with relatively little effort was a spectacular improvement on PS3. We obviously expected this, going from the tech specs, but it’s one thing comparing the number of polygons per second, and it’s quite another seeing it on the screen.

What surprised us first off was the global quality of the images. We are so used to seeing games in 720p (the standard on PS3) that we had forgotten how much full HD (1080p) changes life. If we add an anti-aliasing HD, HD textures, a real 3D depth of field and of course an avalanche of polygons and lights, we get an idea of the emotion that PS4 can produce in any normally constituted computer graphics artist.
On PS4, everything looks great, because the machine offers power that was totally inaccessible up until now. We can feel that we are closing in little by little on the kind of graphic quality we find in CG films. "

"The PS4 engine used for Dark Sorcerer is only in its first iteration, and most of the features scheduled for the final version of the engine haven’t yet been implemented. This demo is only a first test that is well below the visual quality we hope to achieve in our next game. The next game will not be based on this demo, obviously (I know, we’re a bit weird), but on an idea that is completely different from what we’ve done to date. It’s incredibly exciting, and I wish I could tell you more… but I can’t."

Everyone doubting the ingame-"abality" of Quantic Dream and the PS4 got just:

Facial animation tech in this and Infamous second son is insane. I actually want them to turn this into a game or the Kara tech demo.

Dee_913985d ago

I think kara would have more potential to be a game. This one just seemed like a skit.Like where do they go from there?Would it actually be what the title implies or an totally different world.A game about video game actors ? lol

Blackdeath_6633985d ago (Edited 3985d ago )

amazing absolutely amazing should be a movie or atleast a web series the goblin is hilarious

Rip-Ridah3985d ago (Edited 3985d ago )

Enemy3985d ago (Edited 3985d ago )

The best looking next gen tech I've seen so far. Looks like straight up high-end CGI.

Bathyj3985d ago

I was thinking at the time the lighting on the goblin looks better than anything I saw in Shrek. I havent seen Shrek for a while admittedly but well just say the QD demo was very impressive.

The twist was hilarious lol

Quantic Dream Announces New Publishing Label Spotlight

Quantic Dream has announced a new publishing label, Spotlight, following the reveal of debut title Under the Waves.

sadraiden334d ago

Interesting to see how this works out for them. QD have had a very lucrative partnership with Sony. David Cage is a household name among Playstation owners, and he might not have been if QD stuck with Atari as their publisher. Now they're launching Spotlight so they can circumvent Sony exclusivity? I imagine this isn't the last we'll hear from Spotlight.

Abnor_Mal334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Weren’t QD bought buy Tencent, and if so then I’m sure there wouldn’t be anymore Sony exclusivity.

Ok it seems to have been NetEase that bought them back in 2022.

mjchitown334d ago

this is not a Sony exclusivity. you can clearly see Xbox One Xbox Series X ps4 ps5

Sonic1881334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Funny you mention that because in a few Diablo 4 articles, Xbox was the only console that was tagged. It didn't tag playstation or PC and Diablo 4 is a multiplatform game

porkChop334d ago

Bro they had a 3-game contract with Sony. That ended with Detroit. They've haven't been working together since then, so they aren't circumventing anything. They have no obligation to Sony.

CrimsonWing69334d ago

Didn’t they show a Star Wars fake at a Sony event?

I might be wrong about that, but I feel like that’s where I saw if.

porkChop333d ago

I don't think so, Star Wars: Eclipse was announced at the Game Awards.

CrimsonWing69333d ago

@porkchop

The Game Awards, you’re right!

Kekewei333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

I don't think so. There some sources claiming Sony was not happy with their partnership at the end, they even canceled a project that was supposed to be the 4th ps exclusive from QD.

QD is gold! They make excellent games

mastershredder334d ago

Can’t wait for all those quicktime events and bash-you-with-boredom storytelling.

Snookies12334d ago

There's nothing wrong with QTE's. Never understood the hate for them. You press a single button to attack in most games. You press a single button to jump in most games. Why does it then become an issue when you press a button during a cutscene to do something?

JackBNimble333d ago

It's a niche market and not everyone is into that type of game.

RedDevils333d ago

I like their games, it's different from all the trash we seeing every years.

GoodGuy09333d ago

God was Detroit a gem. Hope that their new games are at least on par.

Why Quantic Dream sold up after 25 years

From GI.biz: "Today, Quantic Dream embarks on a new chapter as it is brought into the fold of NetEase – the Chinese publisher's first European acquisition.

Over the past quarter of a century, the French studio has built a reputation for itself on the back of cinematic titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human. While these games may divide opinion among individual gamers, generally speaking they have been well received by critics and praised for attempting something different when it comes to interactive storytelling.

The high profile of these games, and the studio's long-running partnership with PlayStation, put Quantic Dream on the map – to the point where co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière (pictured above left) tells GamesIndustry.biz the company has engaged in acquisition discussions with several potential buyers over its lifetime."

I guess another company that will be restricted on what they can and can't say by the Chinese govmt

camel_toad615d ago (Edited 615d ago )

China will be writing the Quantic Dream scripts from here on out.

masterfox615d ago

infinite supply of fried rice?, I kid I kid, most probably cash ?, retirement? running out of ideas, who knows.

rlow1615d ago

Well I wrote a big post on this but somehow it deleted from the stupid glitching advertisement on this site. Does any bodies screen jump around as the advertisement changes up. Just asking.

As for the Chinese buying up game companies. What’s one way to monitor people and behaviors? Through the gaming analytics they get from people playing. I really believe they are trying to manipulate the world as much as possible. Remember the bird nest at their first Olympics. Their Vision of the world all neatly tied up for them.. I know it’s a stretch, but either the Chinese government has a lot of Gamers, or something else is going on behind the scenes.

MadLad615d ago (Edited 615d ago )

Yeah.
It's freaking annoying.

Typing a thought out comment you made on the fly then, bam, you're in an ad and it's gone.

I mean, there's an ad in virtually every square inch of this site. Can I at least make a comment without worrying it's just going to be yeeted out of existence at the last few words?
