Three Unlikely Challengers Join the Smash Bros. Universe!

Megaman and Animal Crossing's Protagonist "Villager" will join the crazy antics in Nintendo's upcoming Super Smash Bros title for Wii U and 3DS.

EDIT: Just in, Wii Fit Female Trainer will also be a playable character!

I did not expect to see the Villager from Animal Crossing I can't wait to kick Bowsers ass with him ;P

Seriously, why did Sakurai decide to put Wii Fit Trainer in. That's perfectly fine with me but it's really weird. When I 1st saw it on the site I thought of the possibility the site was hacked.

I have two theories:

1. They were out of character ideas and they had 1 slot left. So they just said "How about the Wii Fit Trainer?"

2. They wanted to make the game more interesting to casuals. Which may also be why Animal Crosser is in.

3. Each game since Melee has had a funny yet weird, entirely out of place character, so Sakurai chose the Wii fit trainer this time around. I think it's hilarious.

I wouldn't really call Mr. Game and Watch, Ice Climbers, and ROB "weird", just "Unknown to the modern gamer."

Not so much the ice climbers, but ROB is a toy robot Nintendo released decades ago, and Game & Watch is a flat, colorless,barely 8-Bit character from a system that no one had ever heard of. You couldn't help asking yourself what they were doing in smash bros.

It's mostly a joke, and a very awesome at that. Every character doesn't have to be iconic. When they first showed her off to the crowd on the show floor, everyone burst out in laughter, and I think that's exactly what Sakurai wanted. Open up your mind a little and you might be able to appreciate her. She is sure to be one of the first new characters I try out. A character like this won't sell the game to casuals at all. She will mostly be overlooked by the casuals while they are drawn to Mario, Sonic and Megaman. The wacky weird fighting style I think is the appeal. While Mario is lighting up the battlefield with fireballs, Wii Fit Trainer is kicking a$$ with her exercising moves. I'm really excited to try her out. Watch her become one of the most popular characters when the game launches.

You also need to remember that Smash Bros is all about Nintendo's franchises put together in one game to fight it out. Animal Crossing happens to be one of the more popular franchises. I'ts only natural for the Villager to make it in the game.

I think its a good move from Nintendo to put the wii fit trainer in. Its 1 of these things thats just so bizarre that it works. Beating down Bowser with some bad ass downward facing dog could be just about the most surreal thing ever.
