In the not so distant past Nekro made its way onto Kickstarter and in the last few days of the campaign shot past the $100,000 goal to make it $150,000. That was nearly a year ago, in May of 2012, and since then I have interviewed DarkForge Games’ lead designer about Kickstarter and most recently we have taken a behind the scenes look of this unique action game. Now, Nekro has placed itself onto Steam Greenlight alongside a new trailer and some updates on development.
One of the new bits of information, due to the game being on Steam Greenlight now, is that Nekro’s beta isn’t unimaginably far away. If you are a backer or pre-order-er of Nekro then you likely get access to that and if the game is Greenlit then they plan to roll out the beta soon after. The game itself is now expected to release in Q4 of 2013. The new trailer today shows off much that has not been seen before, like unit customization, new environments, minions, and enemies.
If you were a backer or fan of the early access kickstarted game Nekro, it appears that the game is no longer being developed.
In this review, Michael gives Steam users a preview of Nekro on Early Access, a real time strategy game that could have easily been a mod for Warcraft 3. - "the game has such a simplistic feel in terms of actually playing the game, that I feel like it could almost be considered a Warcraft 3 mod on its own rather than it having become a real game. Not to say that it was a mod, but given the playstyle, and the map functionality, it seems almost like it should have been."
There is something quite delicious about being evil within a videogame.
Normally we are tasked with saving the world, but in this early access preview the name of the game is wanton destruction - Writes Derrick Ritchie
