Xbox One: Focus On Games Not The Key To Winning

Though the Xbox One’s reveal event itself wasn't the most entertaining or impressive, there is one area that could have Microsoft’s Xbox One come out a winner this generation.

If the focus on games isn't the key to winning, then does any gamer want Xbone to win?

Say what you will about the 7th gen's winner (the Wii), but it did focus on GAMES. Granted, the library on the Wii was not everyone's cup of tea; I can respect that. But the focus was on games nonetheless.

Prophet-Gamer3999d ago

People will buy it because all they want is Sports and CoD and they know Xbox. That's what MS is counting on. The real core gamers looking for games will move to PS4, unless they're fanboys of course. Outside of that, banking on the casual audience is a pretty big risk imo. They could buy or they could just as likely grow and brain and not fall for MS' trap.

Ausbo3998d ago

Hahaha. why do you put such general statements out there saying "The real core gamers looking for games will move to the Ps4, unless they're fanboys of course". Do we all have to like the same console as you? Are we not real gamers if we choose xbox and aren't fanboys?

Bottom line is i prefer the xbox cause i love the controller and xbox live and they have satisfied me with enough games in the past. However, how could you say that xbox won't have "real gamer" games 6 months before launch and before we have seen what they have to offer at e3?

You sound more of a fanboy with these stupid comments.

Why should we be forced to like the same console as you?

Oh and by the way, I hate COD and the only sports game i like is the nhl series

MikeMyers3999d ago (Edited 3999d ago )

You can still have a console that focuses on games and other things too. The Xbox 360 had over 900 games, I would tend to think it's main function was a game platform. I doubt the Xbox One won't have tons of games as well. Just because they are getting partnership deals with cable companies doesn't mean it won't be a game console. Games reach into the hundreds of millions of people, cable reaches into the billions. So does Facebook and Skype. It's no wonder they are branching out. Why market games to just a hundred million people when you can try and get a billion people to play games?

Why don't people just wait before over-reacting? You have months before you decide whether to buy one or not.

HammadTheBeast3999d ago

Sigh.

It's not even the games that I care about.

Its the huge anti consumer focus. Basically **** your fanbase, and go arms wide open for this massive audience of idiots.

Football loving, TV watching, too lazy to pick up a remoting, dudebro's is the audience of the Xbox One.

So they can stop pretending to be a games console, and start speaking the truth.

S2Killinit3999d ago (Edited 3999d ago )

I think you are misunderstanding. I don't think anybody in their right mind is arguing that Xboxone wont have games. The problem is the focus of the company. They are turning this ship away from gamers and focusing more and more to casuals, kinect players (that's arguable, since what if they can actually make AAA core gaming w kinect? I doubt it but we will see) and basically everybody's uncle who don't particularly play games. Then they will have to cater to this larger audience, leaving gamers with remakes of a few AAA games and a bunch of applications instead of new games. Look at what happened with 360, they pretty much stopped catering to core gamers from the second half of the generation to focus on casuals. When the xbox one was revealed, they inadvertently showed their hands (not thinking about exactly how dissapointed the core gamers had been) regarding the future of the console's focus. These core gamers were expecting Microsoft to excite them again, to tell them everything was fine and xbox hadn't lost it's focus. Instead they got the company's future plans. So dont get me wrong, MS will come out guns blazing with games at E3. But they have pulled this stunt before, when the 360 was launched. They will have games only so long as they need gamers to adopt their machine, and then they will go back to their game plan: casuals (where MS believes the money is)

Tacklebait3999d ago

I agree. People are over reacting. The features of the xbox one shown so far may be trivial to some but will appeal to a large audience.

I'm praying that on June 10th microsoft will shine in the gaming department. Then I will be more open to the bashing of the xbox one if they fail to deliver.

I'll be buying a ps4, I just want a good reason to buy the xbox as well.

"Why don't people just wait before over-reacting?"

8GB of DDR3 with a 3GB OS footprint

vs

8GB of GDDR5 with a 1 GB OS footprint

3 guesses which of these is better for games, then another 3 guesses about which console has the better GPU.

MikeMyers3998d ago

@MysticStrummer

Since when did the better specs matter on consoles? If you want the best specs for gaming get a PC. Another thing, why must it be one or the other? People with money can actually buy multiple systems if they choose. You don't have to put one system down to make the other more appealing.

@HammadTheBeast

Wait for the whole story. You have months to decide.

@S2Killinit

That's like saying because Nintendo has the 3DS they will ignore the console division. Or Sony will ignore the PS4 if the Vita takes off. Microsoft can strike a balance of games aimed at different types of genres. They pushed Kinect in order for it to be successful. It's a new era with a new system. Again, wait and see. You have months or even years to decide. Nobody is forcing you to buy one today and nobody is forcing you to buy one when it launches. You as a consumer can see from a distance instead what games come out instead of telling me or everyone else what's going to happen. You don't know, I don't know. So if you want to write it off now go ahead, buy bye. Then I guess it doesn't make sense to keep talking about it if you have already determined it's not for you.

"Xbox One: Focus On Games Not The Key To Winning"

Yeah, if Xbox One was a cell phone. (but since it's not)

Games are the #1 most important thing for Game Consoles, and unless MS shows us that they can do gaming better than Sony, Nintendo, and PC, they are going to wind up in last place for the 3rd gen in a row.

BadboyCivic3999d ago

Well said...its not a mobile device

4000d ago
BobbyMcCOOL4000d ago

I think games will be great on both devices, Microsoft will have good games, but it's the experience that makes the difference.

TXIDarkAvenger3999d ago

If games isn't the key to winning, than MS is clearly doing the right thing with Xbox One.

theWB273999d ago

By releasing 15 exclusives and 8 of them new IP's within the first year...you can argue they're Kinect and I can say you don't know that so for now...15 new exclusives with 8 new IP's in the first year issss a good thing.

HammadTheBeast3999d ago

Last time they said "10 NEW GAMES" at the E3 2010 conference, it turned out that 8 were Kinect games.

8 new IP's isn't great considering its almost guaranteed that at least 3 are Kinect (Ryze and 2 leaked ones) and a few more are XBL games.

tracyllrkn3999d ago

When they say 15 exclusives within the first year, i'm pretty sure they don't mean big time games. That would be stupid, you would just have these exclusives competing for consumer's money.

Ult iMate3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

You know, Sony has 12 or 13 exclusives just for PS3 this year. And they are solid core games like Last of Us, GT6, Beyound, Sly 4 - not some Kinect games.
And there's also PSV and PS4.

theWB273999d ago

@HammadTheBeast
8 new IP'S is great considering you don't know what any of them are. (see what I did there?)

Provide a link where your assumptions are concrete info.

Does anyone care at this point? Fingers crossed the next bf is golden, don’t think the franchise could take another epic misfire. Good on them for continuing support for 2143, just too little too late
