Dust 514 Review | IGN

IGN: "Dust 514's poor shooting and driving mechanics and grindy free-to-play economy blot out too much of its depth and fun."

GameCents4007d ago

This game was hyped to high heavens when it was first announced.

You'd think after such an extensive beta period it would be darn polished by now.

Meh.

KingKelloggTheWH4007d ago

It's actually good now,a solid 7.5

Irishguy954007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

Shag off Ign, it has the most in depth character customization in an FPS and the piloting is awesome(great ships/love em). It's only **** if you're **** at it

This game simply requires your time a little and to get used to the complexity, it's not even that complex in the end.

Temporary4007d ago

I play it almost daily, and would give it no less than an 8.

To each their own, but this game kicks a lot of ass.

elhebbo164007d ago

it was crap during the beta and its crap now. no matter how much fancier you make the menus and UI, you cant polish a turd.

camel_toad4007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I actually did polish a turd once for a science project. I got a lot of strange looks and a "D" but it worked.

HarryMasonHerpderp4007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I didn't think the beta was too great either.
Really lacked polish. It had the fundamentals there but it just didn't quite come together. Have no idea if the released game is any better or worse but it hasn't been getting good reviews.
I really don't trust IGN though.

UNGR4007d ago

Did not see that coming. I thought IGN threw 9s at everything that moved? Must have not paid them enough, that's the only way to get a decent review out of IGN these days. Just to sum up the ridiculousness they spew, check out this parody I embedded. And if that doesn't trike your fancy try this one, also another parody of their reviews.

Quick! Throw us some tin foil hats before we are fooled by IGN's evil corruption!

horne2424007d ago

I would, but my shop is all out of tin foil... IGN must have paid them to remove it from the shelves.

HarryMasonHerpderp4007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

To be fair IGN are actually corrupt. You can tell by the fact that they didn't write a story about the no DRM for PS4 and used games campaign on twitter. Any videogame website that cares about gamers and the future of the industry would of written an article about it.
They're in publishers pockets.

UNGR4006d ago

This gets a 5.8 but Call of Duty gets 9's every year? Seems legit.

porkChop4007d ago

The game is really, really lacking polish. It's not THAT bad, but the game mechanics, graphics, audio, net code, etc, are all really rough around the edges. The game needs some serious work. The lag and reg issues are horrible. With such a long beta, you'd figure the game would have been fixed by now.

Hoika4007d ago

I kinda like this game. It feels like it has more potential than most MP shooters. It's constantly updated and I think this one can't be reviewed like generic shooters. This is free to play, it's much more complex, not meant for 16 year old Call of Duty fans and it has some kind of nyche vibe to it that really intrigues me. This is a MMOFPS. So it's about a community, a new universe and connectivity with another universe... This has to grow on you. I think this can't be reviewed (just like WOW can't be reviewed IMHO)

RavageX4007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I agree with you to a point. This isn't the sort of game you can spend a day or two with and review, it just takes more time than that(as it is with MMOs period).

The problem is there has to be something that grabs you at the beginning that makes you want to keep playing it, and this game doesn't have that for me.

Several others are right when they same the game lacks polish and it is painfully obvious once you get in a game.

On a personal note, I've tried the game multiple times throughout its existence and I just don't like it. I have tried to like it, more than any other game I've played lately.

It just doesn't grab me in any sort of way. A bit to bland/boring perhaps.

Having said that, I would take anything that "professional" reviewers say with a grain of salt. I'd say try the game for yourself, it is free after all.

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3027d ago (Edited 3027d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3027d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3027d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3027d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3027d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3027d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3027d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3027d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
